The road was closed for a time as the Serious Crash Unit investigated. Police said it has since opened again but their investigation was ongoing to find out what happened. Police said the single-vehicle accident happened at 9.10am on State Highway 23 in Whatawhata, near the intersection with Ferguson Rd. Two other people have serious injuries, and one person has a minor injury. The Serious Crash Unit are investigating. Te Pahu Rd and Ferguson Rd were closed for a period of time while emergency services were at the scene but have now opened. "A woman in her 80s was transported to Auckland City Hospital at the time," Detective Sergeant Wayne Gear said. "Sadly, she has succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday afternoon." Church Street is currently closed between Selwyn Ave and Upper Municipal Place. CHURCH ST, ONEHUNGA - 11:45AM Due to a serious crash a section of Church St, between Upper Municipal Pl and Selwyn St, in Onehunga is now CLOSED. Avoid this area or expect delays with diversions in place affecting all traffic, including bus services. ^ND The Serious Crash Unit has been advised and will examine the scene. Car hits pedestrians on Auckland's Queen Street, driver flees

Police say the driver fled on foot. Photo: RNZ / Patrice Allen A person has been seriously injured after a vehicle crashed into three pedestrians on Auckland's Queen Street. Police say the driver fled on foot shortly after colliding with them around 6am on Sunday between City Road and Karangahape Road. One person had serious injuries, while the two others sustained minor injuries. Two people have since been arrested. Police said they were considering charges. Cordons were in place and the Serious Crash Unit was examining the scene. "Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash and who witnessed what unfolded," Inspector Nick Poland said.
