9 midi skirt styles to ace the It-girl brief

Courtesy of Miu Miu If The Hemline Index—proposed by economist George Taylor in 1926—has any truth to its obvious whimsy, it seems we're headed for a recession. In contrast to the carefree attitude that comes with wearing a frothy mini, the industry is suggesting we give our skirts more fabric, pulling hemlines downwards over the knees. A sign of the times it may be, but it's one the zeitgeist is surely on board with—no matter the connotations. From the runways to the streets, the chic result of an organised takeover has us all convinced: the midi skirt is here to stay. Over the fall/winter 2025 season, fashion houses ruled in favour of the unassuming skirt style, which once carried a reticent quality to it. Instead, the midi was reclaimed in exquisite impressions. There were the delicious sculptures that played with volume and texture, such as the peplum, fringe-style skirts on Pieter Mulier's Alaïa runway. A sensual approach to styling also had a big part to play in the recent season; one might recall the effortless '90s feel of Calvin Klein's corporate refresh. Yet one can't possibly discuss the midi skirt revival without bringing Miuccia Prada's name into the pit; be it the Y2K candor at Miu Miu or the directional shapes at Prada. Alaïa fall/winter 2025. Getty Calvin Klein fall/winter 2025. Courtesy of Calvin Klein Prada fall/winter 2025. Courtesy of Prada Off the runway, the midi is one all the It girls are pulling out of their wardrobes as well. On any given day, one could scroll their social media feeds and find the likes of Gabbriette, Charli XCX or Alex Consani sporting a midi with ease, paired to an itty-bitty top no less. Cementing her cool girl status further over in Seoul, we've also been on the receiving end of Seulgi's layered skirt delivery in her recent teaser images for an impending comeback with fellow member Irene. And if you're asking Rihanna, it seems a Miu Miu midi was the only way to go for her third baby bump reveal. With its staying power a given, here comes the catch. Its diverse silhouettes run the gamut from updated pencil options to layered sheer numbers to choose from. But never say never, at least where we're concerned. Red Velvet's Irene And Seulgi Announce Their Comeback With New EP TILT

Last Updated: After the success of Monster, which topped various Korean and iTunes charts, the anticipation for TILT is extremely high. Red Velvet's Irene and Seulgi are finally making a comeback. The duo recently announced their new EP, TILT, is going to be released on May 26. Irene and Seulgi will collaborate for this EP five years after their debut, Monster, was released in 2020. On Wednesday, their agency, SM Entertainment, announced that the new album will be available to stream from 6 PM KST across all streaming platforms. The agency also revealed that the EP will contain six songs, including the title track, TILT. Each track in the album carries a strong message of breaking away from constraints and finding balance in moments of instability. After the massive success of Monster, which topped various Korean and iTunes charts, the anticipation for TILT is extremely high. Red Velvet's social media accounts posted a teaser following the announcement of Irene and Seulgi's new EP. The video features striking hues in a black, white, and red combination. Both Irene and Seulgi debuted in 2014 with the K-pop group Red Velvet. Under SM Entertainment, Red Velvet initially had four members—Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy. Later in 2015, the group became a five-member group as they introduced Yeri. Their debut single, Happiness, was a massive hit, and since then they have released multiple chart-topping songs, including Psycho, Red Flavor, Feel My Rhythm, and others. Red Velvet is known for their experimental take, as the 'red" side often focuses on electronic and funk music, whereas the 'velvet" side experiments with 90s R&B, ballads, and hip-hop. In 2020, their agency, SM Entertainment, confirmed the group would be divided into sub-units. While Irene and Seulgi formed the first sub-unit, Wendy and Joy began their solo careers in 2021. Later in 2022, Seulgi debuted as a solo artist as she released her first EP, 28 Reasons. In 2024, Irene started her solo career with Like a Flower. Following their second EP, the K-pop idols are set to go on their next tour, Balance, in June. The tour will begin with a two-day concert in Seoul. It will stopover at several cities, including Tokyo, Bangkok, Taipei, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur, among others. First Published:

Red Velvet's Seulgi releases new solo album

Seulgi of K-pop girl group Red Velvet is back with a new solo album, "Accidentally On Purpose," her agency said Monday. "Accidentally On Purpose" consists of six tracks, including the lead track, "Baby, Not Baby." The EP marks the singer's first solo release in over two years since she made her solo debut with the first EP, "28 Reasons," in October 2022. "Baby, Not Baby" is a pop dance song with a dramatic melodic progression, featuring a funky bassline and an energetic electric guitar performance, according to SM Entertainment. Introducing the album, Seulgi shared in a release: "It was fun to explore looks and concepts that contrast with what I've shown in Red Velvet. The character I portray in this album is a mischievous troublemaker who engages in all sorts of eccentric antics." She also expressed her hopes for more musical projects this year. "As I started 2025 by showing a new side of myself through this solo album, I hope it will be a year where I can showcase a lot of good content in the future. Personally, I want to take a lot of (music) lessons and improve myself." (Yonhap)

Red Velvet's Seulgi to return with 2nd solo EP

Seulgi of Red Velvet will return with her second solo EP on March 10, label SM Entertainment said Tuesday. The mini album 'Accidentally On Purpose' will consist of six tracks including the focus track, 'Baby, Not Baby.' It comes about 2 1/2 years after her solo debut EP '28 Reasons,' which topped the iTunes Top Albums Chart in 30 regions and sold approximately 184,000 copies in the first week, the fifth-most for a K-pop solo female singer at the time. She has teased her solo effort with a mysterious teaser photo earlier this month in time for her birthday. The singer is also slated to release an album as a subunit with group member Irene by June. The duo put out the EP 'Monster' in 2020 and became the first K-pop girl group subunit to sell over 100,000 units in the first week. Fantasy Boys will visit two cities in Japan for concerts next month, said agency Pocket Doll Studio Tuesday. The band of ten will perform twice each in Osaka and Tokyo, on March 7 and 9, respectively. The two-stop live show precedes the group's first studio album in the country, 'Shine The Way,' due out on March 12. The album will include 10 songs fronted by a song of the same title. Hikaru and Hikari translated the lyrics of 'Fantasy' and 'I'll Be,' two of the new songs that will be part of the upcoming LP. The band officially debuted in Japan in June last year with the EP, 'Make a Fantasy.'
