Perth couple in heated custody battle over foster puppy

Police are being criticised over their response to a custody dispute, not over a child but over a puppy. The incident occurred when five officers arrived at a Yokine home of Friday morning to deal with an on-going dispute between a couple and a shelter. The custody battle is over Delta, an eight-month-old Kelpie who was put up for adoption by Swan Animal Haven. Pallas Retimana and her partner were fostering the young Kelpie on a trial basis, and had agreed to adopt her, but issues arose when they said they had plans to move inter-state. Swan Animal Haven allegedly said adoption was no longer an option. Jess Sackman from Swan Animal Haven told Seven News they contacted the couple, offering a proposal they found reasonable. 'We then contacted them on Thursday with a proposal to say, if you guys can meet these conditions, then we can consider going through with this adoption because it makes us feel more comfortable, they rejected that offer, which we felt left no alternative but to involve the police,' they said. In an online petition, Ms Retimana said they have offered 'every compromise imaginable' including delaying their move, but Swan Animal Haven refused. 'Swan Animal Haven has reported the dog stolen, which is not true. They handed the dog over to us willingly,' she told 7News.. The police made a surprise visit to the couples home on Friday morning to seize the puppy. Ms Retimana said the experience has been 'pretty emotional, pretty stressful, really distressing for the both of us'. 'I really just want Delta to stay with us and be apart of our family.' Premier Roger Cook has criticised the need for police involvement in the situation. 'Our police have got a lot of things to do. We don't want their resources being deployed to these sort of activities, which can be sorted out by the parties,' Mr Cook said.

Brutal sign The Project could be CANNED as Channel 10 bosses contemplate huge change

Rumours are swirling that The Project's days could be numbered amid a major shakeup in the current affairs arm of Channel Ten. Amid dwindling ratings, the long-running panel show is reportedly '100 per cent' under review, according to The Australian. The publication claimed that The Project's major problem was that it continually fails to resonate with all demographics. '[The Project] is a bit too old and irritating for younger viewers a bit too young and irritating for older viewers on television,' they wrote. And a look at The Project's performance over the past week backs up the claim. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The prime-time current affairs show failed to crack the top ten of most-watched programs, with its best night being Tuesday, attracting 945,000 total viewers. Its worst was Friday's episode which attracted just 626,000 viewers. This is in stark contrast to The Project's competitors - Seven and Nine News - which, over the past week, have routinely attracted more than 2million viewers to their 6pm bulletins. Daily Mail Australia also reported back in March that Ten bosses were eyeing off a review of The Project. It was also reported that there are plans afoot at Ten to launch a hard-hitting 'news magazine show' to take on the likes of Nine's 60 Minutes, Seven's Spotlight, and the ABC's Four Corners. The publication reported that a 'crack team' of producers, referred to as the 'investigations unit' is currently being assembled to helm the new program. It was claimed that Channel Ten reporter Dan Sutton would be the show's executive producer, with potential reporters currently being screen tested. A Network Ten spokesperson confirmed the establishment of the investigation unit to Daily Mail Australia. '[The Project] is a bit too old and irritating for younger viewers a bit too young and irritating for older viewers on television,' they claimed 'Following the continued growth and success of our news brand, 10 News, we are investing in a 10 News investigative unit that will work on long-form investigative stories as part of our news offering across all our platforms,' the spokesperson said. When it comes to the Sarah-Harris-fronted current affairs show, the spokesperson reiterated that there were 'no changes to The Project' in the works. Last July, a spokesperson from Network 10 confirmed that the once top rating program was not going anywhere. 'The Project remains an integral part of our content line up and rest assured, it's not going anywhere,' they told Daily Mail Australia. The panel show has also undergone an audience decline ever since changing up its format. The ratings woes coincide with growing criticism of The Project's left-wing bias and departures of several high-profile hosts, including Carrie Bickmore, Peter Helliar and Lisa Wilkinson. The show relaunched in 2023 with a new panel comprising Sarah Harris, Sam Taunton, Michael Hing and long-serving anchor Waleed Aly. However, in January, Ten confirmed that that comedian Michael Hing, 39, would no longer be part of the show, after he joined the series in 2023 as a co-panelist. The Network also announced, in January, they would begin uploading entire episodes of The Project to YouTube. Producers revealed the major change with a post on The Project's social media, including a link to the show's dedicated YouTube channel. The long-running current affairs program is known to cut a high profile on social media sharing excerpts and segments to platforms including X and Instagram. It comes after popular former star Carrie Bickmore made a surprise return to The Project last Tuesday. The television and radio star, who quit the Channel Ten show back in 2022, returned to her old stomping ground for a good cause. The 44-year-old was there to celebrate the tear year anniversary of her charity foundation, Carrie's Beanies 4 Brain Cancer, which has raised $24 million for cancer research.

From TV to NRL: Why Kerry Stokes' prized executive has joined V'landys

It's hard to argue that the closest thing Western Australia has to royalty is King Kerry (Stokes). So given his appointment (some would say anointment) of young prince Anthony de Ceglie just over a year ago to run the news department at Seven Network, media watchers were understandably stunned by the announcement that he is swapping TV land for sports. It's Perth's own version of Prince Harry's royal estrangement and escape to the US. While his stint as head of Seven's news operations has been short, De Ceglie is leaving behind a fair bit of baggage that watchers of Seven News won't forget in a hurry. The introduction of a comedy spot and a nightly horoscope segment may have been shortlived, but they have left their mark. De Ceglie's alternative programming innovations at Seven, such as fortune-tellers and celestial sign readers or that weekly bit of satire, were widely panned. Although history doesn't record whether Stokes appreciated a Friday night chuckle or what his future held, both were ultimately dropped. Presumably, Stokes was undoubtedly less impressed with the ratings slide that Seven News has experienced during de Ceglie's reign. Loading De Ceglie had previously been editor-in-chief of Stokes-controlled newspaper The West Australian, and had clearly impressed the proprietor to such a degree that he was parachuted in to run news and current affairs for the Seven Network. In addition to helming The West Australian, he launched national digital paper The Nightly and created sports streaming platform Streamer. That said, de Ceglie was brought into Seven in the wake of the Spotlight scandal – allegations that its former producer Taylor Auerbach had spent $10,000 on a corporate credit card to order two Thai masseuses to his home after a boozy dinner with former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann.

Fresh twist over wild crash allegedly sparked by botched Facebook Marketplace deal

A young woman has lost her licence following an alleged road rage crash believed to have arisen from a botched Facebook Marketplace deal. Emergency services were called to Main North Road in Nailsworth in Adelaide 's north about 10pm on Monday, where a silver hatchback clipped a light pole and crashed into a fire hydrant. Dramatic dashcam footage captured the moments leading up to the crash on a busy road, in which the silver hatchback can be seen driving alongside a blue sedan. The silver vehicle suddenly swerved and rear-ended the blue vehicle twice before crashing into a fire hydrant. The impact severely damaged the hatchback and sent water gushing from a burst water main. The dashcam was handed in to South Australia Police to make further inquiries. Police confirmed on Wednesday that the alleged driver of the silver hatchback - a Para Hills woman, 21, was reported for dangerous driving and automatically lost her licence for 12 months. She will appear in court at a later date. A silver hatchback was captured on dashcam swerving into the side of a blue sedan on Main North Road in Nailsworth on Monday night Police appealed for information relating to the driver of the blue sedan, which fled the scene without stopping. The driver of the silver hatchback claimed to Seven News that she and a friend had arranged to meet a group of strangers at a nearby McDonalds. It's understood the group agreed to buy a pair of shoes from her male friend, who entered their blue sedan to attend a nearby ATM before things took a turn for the worse. The woman claimed she believed her friend was being threatened and followed the sedan along Main North Rd. Witness Belal Elmawey told the outlet he had been driving the car behind and rushed rushed to assist the woman and her passengers following the collision. He described the incident as 'absolute carnage', and said the hatchback driver had claimed that the purported buyers had threatened to stab her friend unless he complied with their demands. It's understood the friend managed to escape from the sedan after the crash. No serious injuries were reported. Investigations continue.
