Agha and Hasan star in Pakistan's win over Bangladesh in first T20

For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport Agha struck a career-best 56 to guide Pakistan to 201-7 before Hasan took 5-30 to dismiss the tourists for 164 in 19.2 overs at Qaddafi Stadium. The win gives the home team a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Allrounder Shadab Khan, who also struck a quick 48, then dismissed rival skipper Litton Das for a 30-ball 48 to break a fighting 63-run stand for the third wicket that lifted Bangladesh from 37-2. Litton hit three sixes and a boundary and had steadied the innings with Towhid Hridoy who scored 17, but the later batters could not capitalize on the platform. Pacer Hasan ended Jaker Ali's knock of 36 (21 balls with three sixes and a boundary), Tanzim Hasan for one and Shoriful Islam for five to cap a succesful return to international cricket after a year-long injury lay-off. Hasan said he was happy and satisfied. 'The last eight months were very tough because it was a career-threatening injury, so I am happy to have contributed to the team's win,' said Hasan, who underwent elbow surgery last year. 'I did hard work during the rehab and it's a reward for that hard work,' said Hasan. Bangladesh skipper Litton was unhappy. 'All over the game, we didn't bowl well, bat well and field well,' said Litton. 'We have to come back strongly with two games still to play.' Earlier, Agha struck a 34-ball 56, with eight fours and a six, while Hasan Nawaz's 22-ball 44 with four sixes helped Pakistan pass 200 after the hosts won the toss and chose to bat. The captain, whose previous T20 best of 51 not out came against New Zealand in March, added 48 for the third wicket with Mohammad Haris and 65 for the fourth with Nawaz. Pakistan were struggling at 5-2 after the loss of openers Saim Ayub, for a duck, and Fakhar Zaman in the first two overs. Shadab scored a 25-ball 48 to help Pakistan add 58 in the last five overs. All six Bangladesh bowlers were among the wickets, with left-arm seamer Islam taking 2-32 in three overs. The remaining two matches are on Friday and Sunday, also in Lahore.

Hasan Ali's 5-wicket haul powers Pakistan to victory over Bangladesh in first T20I

Lahore: Hasan Ali's career-best figures of 5 for 30 and Shadab Khan's all-round performance took Pakistan to a commanding victory of 37 runs against Bangladesh in the T20I series opener on Wednesday in Lahore. In the chase of a huge target of 202 in 20 overs, Hasan Ali struck his first blow when he removed Bangladesh opener Parvez Hossain Emon, caught at mid-on for 4 in his first over. In his next over, Tanzid Hasan took him for a brace of fours, but the fast bowler hit back to knock him over with a knuckle ball, for 31 off 17 balls. Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy had added 63 for the third wicket, but they didn't find the tempo that could've hurt Pakistan. Das was removed by Shadab Khan for 48 runs off 30 balls in the 11th over. Hridoy was also removed in the following over by Khushdil Shah. He managed only 17 off 22 balls, with just one four. Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Shamim Hossain also departed in the 13th over for just four runs courtesy of Pakistan skipper Salman Agha. Hasan Ali returned to the attack in the 18th over. Bangladesh were 141 for 6, still needing 61 off 18 balls. Jaker Ali was on 30 off 18 balls at that point, with his big-hitting offering Bangladesh slim hope. Hasan conceded a six with his first legal ball in his second spell, but removed Jaker on the next ball for 36 off 20 balls. In the same over, he had Tanzim caught and bowled for 1. In the final over, Hasan completed his five-for and dismissed Bangladesh for 164. Earlier in the first innings, Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman walked out to open for Pakistan. But both openers were back in the dugout within two overs. Mohammad Haris and Salman Agha were nearing a 50-run partnership for the third wicket before Haris was removed by Tanzim Hasan Sakib for 31 runs off 18 balls in the 7th over. Salman kept going for fifty, as the batter completed his fifty in the 11th over. However, Hasan Mahmud removed him in the following over for 56 runs. After Agha, Hasan Nawaz was also dismissed for 44 runs off just 22 balls, striking at 200 by Rishad Hossain in the 14th over. Pakistan went 18 balls without a boundary after Nawaz's dismissal. Shamim Hossain was the surprise package with his part-time offbreaks; he dismissed Khushdil Shah in the 17th over for his maiden T20I cricket. Shadab, though, went after Rishad in the 18th over, taking him for a sequence of 6,6,4. Shadab struck two more fours off Shoriful in the last over. Shadab's hits were vital to Pakistan crossing 200. Brief score: Pakistan 201/7 in 20 overs (Salman Agha 56, Shadab Khan 48, Shoriful Islam 2-32). vs Bangladesh 164/10 in 19.2 (Litton Das 48, Jaker Ali 36, Hasan Ali 5-30).

Man gets life in jail for burning alive cousin sister

Meerut: A man from UP's Budaun was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment, along with a Rs 20,000 fine, for burning alive his cousin sister from Delhi after taking her to a Bareilly house for marriage in Sept 2013. In her dying declaration, the girl revealed that Shadab Khan (now 40) "abused, beat her up and wanted to have physical relations with her. When she refused, he poured kerosene on her and set her on fire with the intention of killing her". Following her death, a case under IPC section of "kidnapping", along with section 4 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault) of the Pocso Act, was filed after her family claimed that she was "17 years old". However, since the prosecution later failed to prove her age, the sections under "abduction" and Pocso Act were dropped and Khan was convicted under IPC section 302 (murder). Special public prosecutor Rajeev Tiwari said they failed to produce the girl's educational papers since she was "uneducated". "Her medical examination also couldn't be conducted," Tiwari said, adding that a total of 10 witnesses testified in court, and the girl's dying declaration eventually proved to be "crucial evidence" during the trial. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo As per the FIR filed by the victim's brother, the girl was taken to a rented house in Kila police station of Bareilly on Sept 3, 2013. On the night of Sept 24, Khan with the help of his family poured kerosene on her and set her on fire following an altercation. Khan then took her to the district hospital in a severely burnt condition, and fled. A neighbour informed her family, who reached Bareilly and took her back to Delhi. She was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital where she died of "critical burns" on Sept 29. Special Pocso court judge Devashish, while delivering the verdict on Monday, held that the evidence adduced by the prosecution was "sufficient to prove the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt". The court, however, acquitted five other accused in this case due to a "lack of evidence".
