Original Baazigar script had Kajol's character kill Shah Rukh Khan, reveal Abbas-Mustan: ‘He was an out-and-out negative character'
Shah Rukh Khan's Baazigar was a trailblazing film of its time. At a time when lead actors were focused on playing massy, messiah-like characters, Shah Rukh broke the mould by portraying a cold-blooded killer in Baazigar. In a recent interaction, the film's directors Abbas-Mastan spoke about how they came up with the concept of the film. Admitting that Baazigar's concept was new for that era, Abbas-Mustan shared that although the world saw Shah Rukh's character as a negative one, they viewed him as the hero. Mustan Burmawalla said, 'It was a new concept at that time. We thought of Shah Rukh's character as a hero; he was negative, but he was our hero, and also, you have to understand why he did what he did in the film. For instance, if some character is doing something negative, but in the background he has some good qualities or there is a reason for him to turn negative, then if his character turns negative, that is also okay.' He also revealed that the first draft of the film was entirely different, in which the female lead would eventually kill Shah Rukh's character. He said, 'In the first draft of the film, the hero was an out-and-out negative character who saw a tough childhood as his father would be a drunk, and he would beat his mother, and the kid would grow up wishing that he would become rich one day. After growing up, the character decides to get into a relationship with both daughters of a millionaire and eventually kill one of the daughters to take over the millionaire's empire. Later, the second girl gets to know about the character's intention and kills him. This was the first draft of the film.' Later, he admitted that they were inspired by movies of filmmakers like Manmohan Desai and Prakash Mehra and realised that the film wouldn't work without emotions. That's when they decided to give a strong backstory to Shah Rukh's character, which explored his emotional past with his mother, his father's death and his little sister. He said, 'We realised that the film would not work without emotions, and the biggest emotion is the mother and father's.' Mustan shared that he informed the producer about the change in the storyline to incorporate an emotional arc and took time from him to work on the film's new version. 'Screenplay was the most important aspect of Baazigar.' Baazigar follows the story of Shah Rukh Khan's character, Ajay Sharma, who seeks revenge against business tycoon Madan Chopra for destroying his family. As part of his plan, he seduces Chopra's daughters, murders one, and, after falling for the other, dies in a violent confrontation.

Mamata Banerjee says she's ‘worried' about ‘brother' Shah Rukh Khan after King set injury: ‘Wish him speedy recovery'
After news surfaced online about Shah Rukh Khan getting injured on the sets of his upcoming film King, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to X (formerly Twitter) to express concern for the Chak De India actor's health. Mamata shared a note on X, admitting that she is 'worried' about his condition. Wishing Shah Rukh a speedy recovery, she wrote, 'Reports regarding my brother Shah Rukh Khan sustaining muscular injuries during shooting make me worried. Wish him speedy recovery. @iamsrk.' According to India Today, Shah Rukh Khan injured his back while shooting for King in Mumbai. The actor was later flown to the US for treatment, accompanied by his team and family members. The report also states that Shah Rukh sustained minor injuries and is recovering well. After receiving treatment in the US, he moved to the UK to rest and recuperate. However, due to his injury, the shooting schedule of King has been put on hold and is expected to resume in September. It is also reported that Shah Rukh's pre-planned trip to Sri Lanka has been postponed because of the injury. This isn't the first time Shah Rukh Khan has suffered injuries while filming. He previously injured his back during the shoot of his 2002 film Shakti. At the time, he was diagnosed with a prolapsed disc and underwent surgery at a hospital in the UK. He eventually opted for an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion surgery, during which a disc was inserted in his spine. The actor had also fractured three ribs and his left knee during the shooting of Darr. His knee injury worsened while shooting for the 2011 film for which he had to undergo surgery. In 2007, while filming an action scene in Dulha Mil Gaya, Shah Rukh injured his left shoulder. The same shoulder was injured again during the shoot of Karan Johar's 2008 film My Name Is Khan. King is directed by Siddharth Anand, who also helmed Shah Rukh's blockbuster Pathaan. The film is a special project as it stars Shah Rukh alongside his daughter Suhana Khan, who made her debut with Zoya Akhtar's The Archies. The film also features Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaideep Ahlawat, Anil Kapoor, and Abhay Verma in key roles.

Over the weekend, several media reports claimed that superstar Shah Rukh Khan had suffered a serious back injury while shooting an action scene for his upcoming film King. These reports said he was flown to the US for urgent medical treatment, sending fans into a frenzy. However, those reports now appear to be false. The real reason behind Shah Rukh Khan's US visit According to a fresh update by NDTV, there is no new injury. Sources close to the actor clarified that Shah Rukh is completely healthy. The visit to the US was part of a routine treatment for some old injuries he sustained during past shoots, not because of any recent incident on the King set. 'Shah Rukh is completely fine, and no serious injury happened during the shoot,' a source confirmed. 'Whatever is being said about a major back injury is totally false. The shooting schedule is on track, and the next leg will begin in September.' Why do these rumours keep popping up? Shah Rukh Khan Not Injured On King Set, Undergoes Routine Treatment In US: Report
A report by NDTV has clarified that Shah Rukh is not injured. A source close to the actor shared, 'The rumours of Shah Rukh suffering a back injury on the sets of King are completely untrue." They explained that the actor does deal with old injuries flaring up once in a while, and he travels to the US for regular check-ups and treatment when needed. So, this trip is nothing out of the ordinary for him. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama earlier, the superstar had sustained an injury while shooting an intense action sequence at Golden Tobacco studio in Mumbai. Though the specifics of the injury remain confidential, insiders reveal that SRK has now flown to the United States for medical attention. 'It's not a serious injury, but more of a muscular strain," a source close to the production shared. 'Over the years, Shah Rukh has picked up multiple injuries from stunt work, and this seems to be a result of accumulated stress." The insider added that the actor's team opted for precautionary care abroad, ensuring he receives the best treatment available. King is a much-talked-about project, mainly because it stars Suhana Khan, Shah Rukh's daughter, alongside him — marking their first film together. There's also buzz that the film features a star-studded cast including Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Raghav Juyal and Abhay Verma. However, an official announcement is still awaited. Before King, Shah Rukh was last seen in Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, which released in December 2023. The film starred Taapsee Pannu, Boman Irani, and Vicky Kaushal in key roles. Prior to that, he led the action blockbuster Jawan, directed by Atlee, which featured Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone and many others.
