Datadog forecasts upbeat third-quarter results on increased cloud security adoption
(Reuters) -Cloud security firm Datadog forecast third-quarter revenue above Wall Street estimates on Thursday, signaling growing demand for its services as enterprises ramp up investment in artificial intelligence. Shares of the New York City-based company surged more than 10% in premarket trading. Businesses are accelerating the adoption of AI and cloud technologies, driving increased demand for Datadog's suite of products that monitor and secure cloud-based applications to ensure performance, reliability, and security of these systems. The company benefits from the broader migration to cloud infrastructure, which has created new requirements for real-time monitoring and analytics. Datadog's platform, used by clients including Samsung, NASDAQ and Comcast, enables organizations to monitor and analyze their digital operations, helping them to identify and resolve technical issues. The company said it showcased 125 new innovations to "help customers observe, secure, and act on their complex cloud environments and AI tech stacks." Datadog expects third-quarter revenue between $847 million and $851 million, above analysts' estimates of $819.9 million, according to data compiled by LSEG. The company expects adjusted profit per share between 44 cents and 46 cents, above estimates of 42 cents. For the second quarter, it posted revenue of $827 million, beating estimates of $791.1 million. On an adjusted basis, the company earned 46 cents per share compared with the estimates of 42 cents per share. Microsoft to lay off up to 9,000 employees
Microsoft is laying off as much as 4%, or roughly 9,100, of its employees in the largest round of job cuts since 2023, the Seattle Times reported on Wednesday. The company, which had about 228,000 employees worldwide as of June 2024, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. The tech giant was planning to cut thousands of jobs, particularly in sales, according to a Bloomberg News report in June. Microsoft had also announced layoffs in May, which affected around 6,000 employees. Corporate America has kicked off a series of job cuts across sectors as companies attempt to streamline operations amid economic uncertainties, following similar cutbacks seen last year. Premier League forms five-year AI partnership with Microsoft
(Reuters) -The English Premier League and Microsoft on Tuesday announced a five-year partnership where the cloud giant will infuse its artificial intelligence Copilot into the league's digital platforms to provide quick facts and statistics about matches. Audiences and fans will be able to learn about Premier League clubs, players, matches through an AI companion powered by Microsoft's Copilot which can pull information from over 30 seasons of stats, 300,000 articles and 9,000 videos, they said. Advertisement AI has strongly resonated with sports leagues and sports entertainment companies as they look to streamline the vast troves of data to attract larger audiences and drive engagement. Spain's LaLiga soccer league, which features clubs such as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, also uses AI in match analysis and media production while clubs roll out AI-driven experiences to engage more fans. The Premier League, England's top soccer league, is also migrating its core digital infrastructure to Microsoft Azure to allow for easier AI integration and create a unified platform for the league. Amazon to expand Prime delivery services in smaller cities, rural areas in US by year end
plans to expand its same-day and next-day Prime delivery services to over 4,000 smaller cities and rural regions in the United States by the end of 2025, it said on Tuesday, as the company doubles down on efforts to grow its domestic footprint. Amazon earlier this year announced plans to spend more than $4 billion to grow its U.S. rural delivery network by the end of 2026, promising faster shipments to drive up demand from consumers in small towns and the countryside. The company said it was already seeing customers purchase more frequently and shop for household essentials at higher rates since it started offering faster deliveries in these regions. With more than 200 million paid Amazon Prime members worldwide, Prime has become a key growth engine for the company. In a bid to boost Prime's performance, Amazon has focused on expanding geographically while also offering discounts to younger shoppers to grow its subscriber base. Insurer Aflac discloses cybersecurity incident
Insurer Aflac said on Friday it identified suspicious activity on its network in the United States on June 12. The company said it has reached out to third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident and has commenced a review of potentially impacted files. These files contain personal information of its customers, including social security numbers and health-related details, it added. Shares of Aflac fell 1.6 per cent in premarket trading.
