Ford recalls more than 1 million vehicles in the US, NHTSA says

KUALA LUMPUR: Ford Motor is recalling 1,075,299 vehicles in the United States over an issue that may prevent the rearview camera from displaying images increasing the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Wednesday. The recall affects certain vehicles among 2021-2024 Bronco, F-150, Edge, and 2023-2024 Escape, Corsair, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 and F-600, the U.S. auto safety regulator said. The recall also impacts the 2022-2024 Expedition, 2022-2025 Transit, 2021-2023 Mach-E, Lincoln Nautilus, 2024 Ranger, Mustang and the 2022-2024 Navigator. The NHTSA said a software error may cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze, or not display. Dealers are expected to update the accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software through an over-the-air update, free of charge, the agency added. The APIM software serves as an operating system for the car's dashboard, helping its infotainment system to control apps and display maps, among others. Letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed by June 16. A second letter will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated for third quarter 2025, according to the NHTSA. (Reporting by Abhinav Parmar in Bengaluru; Editing by Shailesh Kuber)

Verisk beats profit estimates on demand for data analytics products

(Reuters) - Verisk Analytics reported a better-than-expected profit for the first quarter on Wednesday, driven by demand for its data analytics products primarily used by property and casualty (P&C) insurers to assess policy risks. P&C insurers have been facing higher losses due to claims triggered by increasing numbers of extreme weather events around the world. The California fires, one of the costliest natural disasters in American history, alone are estimated to have caused economic losses running up to $250 billion, dealing a major blow to insurers' earnings. New Jersey-based Verisk primarily serves the P&C insurers, providing catastrophe modeling and predictive analysis to help them assess risk and optimize policy pricing. In recent years, the company has leveraged AI to deliver deeper insights into emerging risks, improving underwriting and claims management. Verisk's consolidated first-quarter revenue rose 7% to $753 million from a year earlier, beating analysts' average estimate of $749.8 million, according to data compiled by LSEG. The company earned $1.73 per share on an adjusted basis in the three months ended March 31, up from $1.63 a year ago. Analysts, on average, were expecting earnings of $1.68 per share. Underwriting revenue increased 6.8% to $532 million in the reported quarter, while claims revenue climbed 7.5% as demand for the company's anti-fraud and property estimating solutions grew. Verisk shares are up 7.5% so far this year, compared with a near 5% fall in the S&P 500 index. (Reporting by Atharva Singh; Editing by Shailesh Kuber)

Volvo Cars recalls over 400,000 US vehicles over rearview camera issue, NHTSA says

(Reuters) -Swedish automaker Volvo Cars is recalling 413,151 vehicles in the United States over an issue with the rearview camera, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said. The recall applies to a number of Volvo models including the 2021 to 2025 XC40, as the rearview camera image may not display when the vehicle is placed in reverse, increasing the risk of a crash. The remedy for the Volvo recall will be a software update conducted by a dealer or via over-the-air. The Volvo recall comes a week after peer and Swedish electric vehicle maker Polestar recalled over 27,000 Polestar 2 vehicles in the U.S. due to a similar issue. The Polestar 2, which is currently not available for orders in the U.S., was built on the same platform as some of Volvo's cars, stemming from a partnership between the automakers. Volvo Cars on Wednesday also said it would cut 5% of the workforce at its Charleston plant in South Carolina in the U.S. The company last month announced a restructuring of its American operations and a withdrawal of its earnings forecast due a hit from tariffs. Drugmaker Novo Nordisk warns consumers about counterfeit versions of Ozempic in US

Drugmaker Novo Nordisk warns consumers about counterfeit versions of Ozempic in US April 14 (Reuters) - Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk said on Monday several hundred counterfeit units of its diabetes drug Ozempic were being distributed outside its authorized supply chain in the United States. The country's health regulator seized the counterfeit injections on April 9 and is investigating them. Surging demand for Novo's Ozempic, chemically known as semaglutide, has given rise to concerns about unregulated, compounded and counterfeit medicines. Its weight-loss drug Wegovy also has the same active ingredient. As the investigation continues, further analyses, including extensive visual examination and chemical testing of the seized, counterfeit product is underway. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Novo Nordisk do not yet have information about the drugs' identity, quality, or safety, the regulator said on its website. More: Taking Ozempic for weight loss? You might find other benefits, too - and a few risks Novo has advised retail pharmacies to purchase authentic Ozempic injections from authorized distributors and urged patients to check their product for any signs of counterfeiting before using. Mesa Air, Republic Airways in merger deal to create larger regional airline

Mesa Air Group and Republic Airways agreed to merge in an all-stock deal, the companies said on Monday, in a move that would give them a larger fleet and boost efficiency in regional flying and crew management. The combined company, which would operate as Republic Airways Holdings Inc, will have a single fleet of about 310 Embraer 170/175 aircraft. Shares of Phoenix, Arizona-based Mesa, which has a market value of $29.3 million, rose 23.8% in premarket trading. Terms of the merger deal, expected to close in the late third or early fourth quarter of 2025, were not disclosed. Republic shareholders would own 88% of the combined company, while Mesa's would own a minimum of 6% and up to 12% depending on meeting certain pre-closing criteria. The combined company is expected to remain listed on the Nasdaq under a new ticker symbol "RJET". The new entity's board will have six existing directors from Republic and one independent director from Mesa's board. Republic will continue to operate flights for American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines under the existing capacity purchase agreements (CPA), while Mesa will support United Airlines under a new 10-year CPA, as a result of this deal, the companies said.
