Shark: The Beginning (2021) Recap & Ending Explained – What happens to Woo-sol in jail?
Shark: The Beginning Plot Summary Shark: The Beginning is an underrated Korean action film adapted from the webtoon 'Shark' written by Woon and illustrated by Kim Woo Sub. The movie is directed by Johnny Chae and stars the talented Wi Ha-joon and Kim Min-seok. The movie follows Cha Woo-sol, a high school student who ends up in prison after fighting back against a bully. Initially, Woo-sol was keeping a low profile and studying hard with the hopes of getting into university. However, things take a turn for the worse as soon as Bae Seok-chan, a new student, joins the school. It turns out Seok-chan and Woo-sol have history – not the good kind! Seok-chan is Woo-sol's former bully, and to make matters worse, he is a boxing champion. Excited to mark his new territory, Seok-chan starts a fight and targets Woo-sol again. This time, Woo-sol stabs him in the eye. Following the incident, Woo-sol is sentenced to a boy's prison, where he meets Jung Do-hyun. What is Do-hyun's story? Do-hyun is an MMA champion on the rise. At just 18 years old, he has managed to win a few titles and is revered in the sports circle. Unfortunately, his bright future is derailed when he kills three armed robbers who killed his family. To be fair, he walked in during the attack and lost it after seeing his sister and mom lying on the floor, bleeding. Sadly, he is found guilty of murder and is currently two years into his term when he meets Woo-sol. How does Do-hyun help Woo-sol? Shortly after landing in jail, Woo-sol accidentally gets on the wrong side of Won-joon. Won-joon and Seong-yong run the prison, and anyone who crosses them gets a beating of a lifetime. During a football game, Woo-sol accidentally hits Won-joon in his balls. Won-joon later tries to get revenge, but Woo-sol clutches onto Do-hyun and begs him to save him. In the end, Do-hyun gives Won-joon a black out after he insists on challenging him. After this incident, Woo-sol tries to suck up to Do-hyun to thank him. He also does this to try to make it hard for Won-joon to get to him. However, Woo-sol realises he can't live his life in fear. This comes after Seok-chan visits him in prison and threatens to get revenge. To save himself, Woo-sol begs Do-hyun to train him. Woo-sol's persistence moves do-hyun and starts training him. Does the training help Woo-sol? As expected, training is not easy, but Woo-sol is determined to be strong and live a normal life. Do-hyun uses his relationship with the prison warden to move Woo-sol into his room. He trains him hard for months, and they get close during this time. Of course, Won-joon still tries to come after Woo-sol. Won-joon uses Woo-sol's friends to lure him. A few months into training, Woo-sol is lured into a fight with Won-joon. Of course, Won-joon beats him to a pulp. However, Woo-sol refuses to stay down and ends up winning. He nearly kills Won-joon, but Do-hyun arrives in time to stop him. In the meantime, another prisoner gets out and tells Seok-chan all about Woo-sol's training. It turns out that Seok-chan joined a gang and is keeping tabs on Woo-sol. He visits Woo-sol and shares his excitement about when they will meet again. Simultaneously, Do-hyun is transferred to a different prison while Sang-hyeop, the old captain, is released from solitary confinement. Sang-hyeop assumes Woo-sol will come after him, but is surprised when Woo-sol turns out to be an alright guy. What happens to Woo-sol after Do-hyun is transferred to another prison? With Do-hyun gone, Woo-sol returns to his old room, led by Sang-hyeop. Seong-hyong insists on fighting with Woo-sol to prove who is the top dog. At first, Woo-sol refuses, but Seong-hyong promises to be his lap dog if he loses. Woo-sol agrees to the fight on the condition that if he wins, Song-hyong and Won-joon will stop bullying others. Surprisingly, Woo-sol manages to take down Seong-hyong in an intense fight. Sadly, the prison guards get wind of their fight and put him in solitary confinement. After a short stint in solitary confinement, Woo-sol is released back to the general population. He and Sang-hyeop approach the gang leaders and call for a peace treaty. With all parties agreeing to live harmoniously, the prison becomes a much calmer place. Soon, Woo-sol completes his sentence and is released. However, Seok-chan is the person who picks him up. How does Shark: The Beginning end? Although Woo-sol tries to ignore Seok-chan, the latter is persistent. Woo-sol tries to understand why Seok-chan hated him enough to target him in the first place. Unfortunately, Seok-chan has no answers, just malice. The two have a showdown, and Woo-sol fights without giving up. He emerges victorious and leaves Seok-chan behind. A few days later, Woo-sol visits Do-hyun, and they catch up. They joke about Do-hyun's claims that sharks lack a swim bladder, which forces them to constantly be in motion to survive. After visiting an aquarium, Woo-sol isn't convinced, but he still understands Do-hyun's message.
