Sharlene Mawdsley sprints through Tipp's celebrations

Sharlene Mawdsley was the embodiment of 'no days off' during Tipperary's All-Ireland celebrations on Monday, as she raced a local barefoot and in a dress. The Olympic sprinter was in the stands to cheer on her boyfriend and Tipp hurler Michael Breen as the Premier County overturned a six-point deficit to hammer Cork and bring Liam McCarthy back to Tipperary for the first time since 2019. With Michael and the rest of the lads returning to Tipp to celebrate in front of 45,000 people in Semple Stadium, Sharlene joined in on the celebrations, and there clearly wasn't a loss on her this morning; as she raced a fella at 6.45am. Sharlene Mawdsley at quarter to seven this morning 🤣🤣🤣 #tipp #gaa — Ewan MacKenna (@EwanMacKenna) July 22, 2025 A far cry from her racing uniform and runners, Sharlene raced the fan while wearing a dress and flats, and to sweeten the deal, she gave the guy — who's since been identified as former hurler Brian 'Buggy' O'Meara — a head start. The head start was nothing for her, however, as she breezed past him in a 10 second clip that has done the rounds on Twitter (X). 'Imagine walking to work turning the corner and seeing Sharlene Mawdsley racing some lad called Buggy O'Meara!' one person wrote, while another wrote 'Good bit of craic in Sharlene obviously.' Hup Tipp,' another added, while another added that Buggy 'might have taken it on a photo finish.' Sharlene confirmed that she and Michael were an item back in June, following the future All-Ireland champions' win over Waterford in the championship. Outside of the GAA, Michael is a business studies and geography teacher at CBS secondary school in Clonmel, receiving a diploma in education from DCU. The Olympic sprinter proved that she didn't need any runners or uniform to have the race, handily beating the former Tipp hurler in her dress from the night before and without any shoes on. Olympian Sharlene Mawdsley pays tribute to boyfriend Michael Breen after Tipperary win

The champion runner was among those wearing the blue and gold jersey cheering on Tipperary after the Premier County won the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship final at Croke Park in Dublin yesterday. In a post on social media, the sprinter from Newport in west Tipperary posted a picture of the couple holding the Liam MacCarthy Cup. "Proud of you every day, but that little bit prouder today,' she wrote on Instagram, also sharing a heartwarming photo of the pair hugging each other. The pair hit the headlines earlier this month when they were pictured kissing after Tipperary beat Kilkenny in the All-Ireland semi-finals. They did a 'hard launch' of their romance on May 18, following Tipperary's win against Waterford in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship. The Olympian athlete shared a photo of herself and Breen from the pitch in their matching county colours, captioning it 'Tippin' on'. Photo by Stephen McCarthy/Sportsfile Mawdsley was on the Ireland team that came fourth in the Paris Olympics last year in the 4x400m relay. She suffered heartache just last month following the sudden death of her father, Thomas 'Tucker' Mawdsley, on June 3, at the age of 67. The runner returned to the track just a few weeks later when a last-minute decision to compete saw her finishing third in the Women's 400m at the European Team Championships in Slovenia. Achieving a season's best, she dedicated her bronze medal win to her father. Tipperary's defender Michael Breen (31), also plays for Tipperary Senior Championships club Ballina. His hurling career started at his home town of Ballina on the Limerick border, where he joined his local club at an early age. Breen made his senior championship debut as a substitute in the 2015 Munster semi-final against Limerick. He was nominated for All-Star awards at midfield in 2016 and 2020 and won an InterProvincial hurling medal with Munster in 2016. The hurler also posted a picture on Instagram with his teammates holding a trophy after Tipperary's victory. "Liam is coming home,' he captioned the post. Tipperary claimed a 29th All-Ireland hurling title on Sunday, their first since 2019, defeating Cork with a 3-27 to 1-18. rs. Michael Breen (right), with Eoghan Connolly and Robert Doyle (left). Sharlene Mawdsley shares tender moment with Tipperary GAA boyfriend Michael Breen after emotional All-Ireland final win

TIPPERARY'S victory in the All-Ireland final was sealed with a kiss in a tender moment between Sharlene Mawdsley and boyfriend Michael Breen. Breen and his Premier County teammates won Liam McCarthy for the first time since 2019 with a dramatic comeback win over Cork on Sunday. 2 The players and staff were cheered on by their friends and family in the stands at Croke Park. That included Sharlene Mawdsley, who is in a relationship with corner-back Michael Breen. After the game, Sportsfile captured the moment Breen brought the iconic trophy over to his girlfriend, who gave him a kiss on the cheek in celebration. The all-star couple have been an Instagram official couple since Mawdsley shared a pic of themselves at Semple Stadium in May. But they have known each other for a whole lot longer judging by a precious throwback pic she posted on Breen's birthday. The 26-year-old shared a photo collage of the couple, including a throwback photo. The pic is an eye-catching one, as it showed the 2024 Olympian with brown hair, with the Newport AC export best known as a blonde. Conveniently, the Ballina man's birthday also fell on Sharlene's grandmother's 90th birthday which yielded a similarly emotional post. The photograph which signalled that they had gone Instagram official was on the Semple Stadium pitch following Tipp's win over Waterford. But that wasn't the first time she'd been in attendance to cheer on Liam Cahill's side this year. Watch RTE pundits' contrasting reaction to full-time whistle of Tipperary's epic win over Kilkenny In the wake of the sprinter's relationship update, her previous matchday experience makes even more sense even leaving aside that she is a Tipperary native herself. She spent her Easter Sunday at Semple Stadium in Thurles roaring them on during a thrilling draw with Limerick. So it's no wonder why a few more in the know people who commented on her post felt a relationship announcement was overdue. Stephanie wrote: "Awwwww Shar about time (love heart emoji)." Meanwhile fellow Olympian Cathal Doyle added: "Loving the hard launch Sharlene." Elsewhere, Mike hailed: "Two of Tipp's finest athletes. Magic." And lastly, Una Healy of The Saturdays fame posted a love heart emoji of her own. Since going official, Mawdsley and Breen have been regularly documenting their romance on Instagram. He previously quipped he was on "coaching duty" while looking on as she did laps on what looks to be the same track. The Premier hurler has also been a regular visitor at her University of Limerick training base. And when she was heading to Slovenia for the European Athletics Team Championships for her first competitive race since the death of her dad, Breen was on hand to be her taximan. Mawdsley returned the favour by getting a front row seat as Breen and Tipperary qualified for the All-Ireland hurling final with a semi-final win over Kilkenny. After the semi-final victory, the corner-back posted a photo on Instagram of them all smiles. Breen captioned it: "First time in Croke Park is it?" To which the sprinter replied: "And not my last!"
