Ryan Reynolds Originally Planned to Kill Wade Wilson in DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE — GeekTyrant

Deadpool & Wolverine was such a fun flick. It brought joy back, not only to Marvel fans, but to moviegoers, who hadn't had a whole lot of great choices since the pandemic. It was hilarious and action-packed, and one of the coolest parts was seeing the old and new characters on screen we had been hoping for. It made us excited to see what the future would hold for each of the comic book characters on screen, with the title characters leading the misfit crew. But unbeknownst to viewers, we almost lost Wade Wilson in the movie, for good. In a recent interview with Scott Mendelson on The Box Office podcast (via CBM), Ryan Reynolds admitted that he considered bringing an end to Deadpool's misadventures in the MCU just as they were getting started. "There's always the thought of killing Deadpool in the last one. Again, it's like listening to the movie. Me, Shane Reid, Dean Zimmerman, and Shawn Levy must have reworked that third act for 45 days straight. Finally figuring it out — I am such a needle-drop person, but I'm really working hard to embrace score. It was Rob Simonsen who really helped us get there by blending score, needle drop, and all these things that gave you that feeling we were working for. "Studios are like, of course, it'd be fun to play around with this guy in the future, because he's a cheat code," the actor continued. "He can say things that everyone might be thinking, and it gets you out of trouble." He'd later point out that he was ultimately happy Disney didn't let him kill Deadpool because he "loves playing him." There have also been rumors that, along with Zazie Beetz as Domino, Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine have already been spotted on the Avengers: Doomsday set. This has not been confirmed, and they may have also been stand-ins or stuntmen, so we will just have to wait and see, though no one would be too surprised to see these fan-favorite characters featured in the film. Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive on December 17, 2026.

Even Shawn Levy Sounds Like He's Geeking Out Over Ryan Gosling Joining The Star Wars Universe

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. As part of the slate of upcoming Star Wars movies, director Shawn Levy has been recruited to join the galaxy far, far away. The Canadian filmmaker is directing a film in the franchise subtitled Starfighter. Levy has long been a fan of the sci-fi franchise and has even referenced it via Easter eggs in some of his movie. He's not the only big name joining the fray either, as Ryan Gosling is lined up to star in his new flick. Needless to say, Levy is so pumped over Gosling's involvement. Ryan Gosling's Star Wars Celebration panel presentation was met with much fanfare earlier this month. It was there that he and Levy addressed fans and the press and teased their upcoming film. Anyone can look at Gosling's best movies and understand why Lucasfilm would want to hire him. It's honestly surprising that he's only now joining the George Lucas-birthed franchise. While speaking to People, Levy totally geeked out over Gosling entering the fold, and I can't blame him: If you can have Ryan Gosling in anything you make, do that, because that's going to make the thing so much better and cooler. You got that right! Gosling exudes charm in many of the roles he plays. He can be a slick protagonist, as is the case in Drive or a goofy wannabe alpha male like in Barbie. He can also be heartbreakingly vulnerable as his turn in Blue Valentine would suggest. Considering Gosling's skills, I have no doubt he'll bring a great deal to his Star Wars role. Not only that, but he's also been a fan since childhood, with his mother even saving his Empire Strikes Back bedsheets as evidence. It's clear that Shawn Levy believes Ryan Gosling will bring a great deal of gravitas to Starfighter. That makes me all the more curious about what his character will be like. Not only does Levy feel he and Gosling will have a magical collaboration, but he loves the 'idea of pairing' the talented actor and Star Wars in general: I haven't seen that pairing, and that gets me really excited. The notion of Ryan Gosling joining such an iconic and beloved franchise is just too cool to me. Amid Star Wars Celebration panel, Shawn Levy couldn't contain his excitement to have the Place Beyond the Pines actor joining his upcoming sci-fi movie, saying it's 'a dream come true for me.' Considering Gosling's unique blend of intensity and charisma comes through in many of his performances, I'm sure he'll bring fresh energy into the space opera film series. Shawn Levy's big goal for the film is to create something original in tone and scope. So far, what's known about Starfighter is that it'll take place about five years after the Battle of Exegol in The Rise of Skywalker, which marks the demise of the Sith. However, as far as we know, there will be no direct connections to the sequel trilogy. Based on Shawn Levy's geeking out over Ryan Gosling, he seems more than ready to get work. Let's hope that enthusiasm translates to a film that's fresh and adds new layers to this storied franchise. I can't wait to see a successful collaboration between the two Canadian talents. Star Wars: Starfighter is set to open in theaters on May 28, 2027 and, in the meantime, you can stream past films in the saga using a Disney+ subscription.

Madonna Biopic Series With Shawn Levy in the Works at Netflix: Report

The Queen of Pop might be getting her own TV series. Music icon Madonna is working with Shawn Levy to develop a limited series at Netflix, according to a new report by Deadline. Levy and Madonna have been talking about working together for some time, according to the report, and the series is unrelated to a paused film biopic that was being developed at Universal with Julia Garner in the lead role. (That film was put on an indefinite hold ahead of her massive Celebration tour.) His company 21 Laps has an exclusive TV deal at Netflix. Reps for Netflix did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone's request for comment. Madonna's rep declined to comment. 'I have a very long script that is really hard for me to make shorter. I've been whittling away at it, but it's like hacking off my limbs,' Madonna told Variety in 2022 about the film. 'I've had an extraordinary life, I must make an extraordinary film. It was also a preemptive strike because a lot of people were trying to make movies about me. Mostly misogynistic men. So I put my foot in the door and said, 'No one's going to tell my story but me.'' It's unclear what period of Madonna's career the television series will focus on, although Garner is 'still being engaged' on the new project. Madonna has previously hinted at the biopic being turned into a TV series. 'After struggling for days in LA, listening to producers and agents tell me why I couldn't make my film —I (been working on it for 4 years!!!),' she said in a now-deleted post from November. 'I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged.' She added at the time: 'I did not have a normal life. I cannot make this in the normal way … We cannot shrink and make ourselves smaller. If you want something badly enough in life — the whole universe will conspire to [help] you get it.' Madonna biographical series in the works

Listen to article Madonna is bringing her life's story to the screen via Netflix. As per Deadline, the popstar has partnered with the streamer to develop a biographical limited series. Madonna and Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy have boarded the project as executive producers. Deadline reported that the upcoming project has no relation to the Madonna biopic starring Julia Garner that was previously in the works at Universal. It has yet to be confirmed which period of the Material Girl singer's life the limited series will focus on. Garner, who joined the popstar on stage at the Celebration Tour in December 2023, is still rumoured to play Madonna in the new project. Although it is difficult to tell at this stage whether the Frozen singer will be involved in penning the screenplay, she did co-write the proposed feature. "I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world," she said in 2020 when the Universal feature was announced. The film, which was put on hold in 2023 due to the singer's world tour, was to follow the early life of the Queen of Pop. As per Variety, actors vying for the role included Florence Pugh, Alexa Demie, and Odessa Young, with singers Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira also on the list of contenders. The audition process was said to be "grueling", as the music-heavy production required an actor who could sing and dance. "The focus of this film will always be music," Madonna said. "Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories, and who better to tell it than me? It's essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision."
