Why do artists seem to often get away with violent crimes?
Artists find themselves in the spotlight for various reasons, including controversies and physical altercations. Recently, musician Lehlogonolo Chauke, also known as Shebeshxt, found himself in the spotlight after allegedly engaging in a physical altercation. He allegedly took a panga from his jacket and attempted to stab someone sitting in front of him. This is not the first time he's been in the spotlight for allegedly attacking someone. In 2022 he faced an attempted murder case after he was accused of stabbing a man in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo. Since then, Shebeshxt has also been accused of slapping a person and taking out a firearm. Another artist with a history of violent crimes is US singer Chris Brown. The 36-year-old was granted bail by a London court on Wednesday over a charge of serious assault after promising to pay a £5m (R120.9m) security fee, clearing the way for his world tour to begin next month. He was accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm in an 'unprovoked attack' on music producer Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle in a London nightclub in 2023.

Despite claiming he was a changed man during an appearance on MacG's Podcast and Chill, where he discussed his troubled past, Shebeshxt continues to be involved in violent confrontations. Reformed or repeat offender? Shebeshxt's fans are finding it increasingly difficult to reconcile his claims of transformation with his recurring violent episodes. In one recent video, he is seen calmly avoiding a slap from a female fan who appears to be provoking him, which some took as a sign of personal growth.
