Top Scottish caddie avoids jail for sexual communications with child

Top Scottish caddie avoids jail for sexual communications with child A top Scottish golf caddie who told a 14-year-old that he would have sex with her avoided jail earlier this month. Daniel Mulvey, 35, sent a string of messages to his victim on the social media app Snapchat in July 2023. He had earlier met the girl and her friend near Glasgow's TRNSMT music festival, where he asked for her details. Mulvey, of West Kilbride, North Ayrshire, then contacted her that night to tell her that he would have sex with her. When informed of her age, Mulvey told the girl that he "actually didn't care" and wanted to "be your first." He was snared after the girl's "concerned" aunt secretly recorded the conversation. Mulvey was regarded in the top bracket of his profession, having worked alongside stars such as Gary Player. Mulvey has caddied at major tournaments such as The Open and the DP World Tour. He has also been pictured alongside U.S. President Donald Trump and golf legend Padraig Harrington. Mulvey's illustrious career faces ruin after he pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to a single charge of sending written sexual communications to the girl. Sheriff Iain Fleming ordered Mulvey to do 150 hours of unpaid work at his sentencing on May 23. Mulvey was also put on the sex offenders register and under supervision for 18 months. Mulvey was given a police escort from court after he was berated by members of the public as he initially tried to leave the building. The court earlier heard that the girl and her friend met Mulvey while they took shelter from heavy rain near the TRNSMT festival in Glasgow Green. The girl did not tell Mulvey her age of name but he "believed her to be slightly older." Mulvey gave the girl his mobile phone and asked for her Snapchat username. She passed him the details and she left the scene without meeting again. The girl went to her aunt's house later that night. Her aunt noticed that the girl was communicating on Snapchat with someone called 'Dan.' The aunt became 'concerned' and discreetly recorded the conversation on her mobile phone. The girl later told her aunt that she met Mulvey at TRNSMT. Mulvey stated to the girl that he 'honestly' would have sex with her, and he 'meant it.' He added: 'I can't stop looking at your pictures, I'm in bed thinking about you.' When the girl told Mulvey that she was 14 years old, he replied: 'Actually don't care that you are 14 by the way, you are so good.' The chat continued into the early hours of the morning when Mulvey asked if she was a virgin. He also stated: 'I want to be your first.' The matter was reported to the police and officers were able to link the phone number and email on the Snapchat account to Mulvey. Mulvey was arrested by police at Manchester Airport on December 14 and taken to a police office in Glasgow.

Sheriff makes decision on Paisley paramedic who crashed into taxi

Amanda Keenan, 35, was behind the wheel of the vehicle in Glasgow's Calton on September 24 2023. Keenan and a crew were transporting a 71-year-old woman to Glasgow Royal Infirmary after her heart had stopped while at home. Keenan, of Paisley, Renfrewshire, failed to give way or slow down an appropriate amount at a red light. She continued to drive while the taxi - an orange Kia Niro - moved off a green light across from her. This resulted in the two vehicles colliding in the middle of the junction. Keenan pleaded guilty last week at Glasgow Sheriff Court to driving without due care or attention. Sheriff Tony Kelly deferred conviction until this week to determine whether to grant an absolute discharge. This means that the first offender's criminal record would remain clean. The sheriff watched CCTV of the incident and heard submissions on similar cases from Keenan's lawyer Jacqueline White. The lawyer further stated: "Miss Keenan advises that she reduced her speed at the junction. "When she got to the red light, you have to reduce your speed or give way. "She was attempting to get a patient to hospital while colleagues were attending to the patient." Sheriff Kelly granted the absolute discharge and he said: "In all the circumstances of what happened and what was known to you it is inexpedient to inflict punishment. "I will not proceed to conviction and that is the end of the matter." The court earlier heard that the medics attended the woman's home as she had difficulties breathing. A decision was made to transfer her to hospital as the woman had went into cardiac with Keenan being the driver. Prosecutor Kirsty McKenzie said: "CPR was being carried out in the back of the ambulance." The blue lights and sirens were activated on the vehicle which drove up to London Road at its junction with Arcadia Street. Miss McKenzie said: "On approach to a red traffic signal, Keenan failed to slow down. "She proceeded the red light without checking for emerging traffic from the driver's side. "A taxi driver emerged from Arcadia Street and when his lights went green he emerged and collided with the driver's side of the ambulance." The hearing was told that the ambulance was unable to be moved after the collision. The fiscal depute stated that there was evidence of brakes being applied by Keenan at the time but she did not "give way." Neither Keenan or the taxi driver needed hospital treatment. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. It was revealed that Keenan paid a speeding fine months before the incident which was unrelated to her employment.

St Andrews takeaway boss on trial over sexual assault allegations

A teenage girl told a court she feared being raped by a St Andrews takeaway boss who she alleges sexually assaulted her. The17-year-old claimed she had been left 'ruined' by the actions of Ugur 'Jack' Emre, owner of the Fife town's Big Boss 'party' restaurant and Little Boss ice-cream shop. Emre, 42, is on trial at Dundee Sheriff Court in connection with alleged sexual assaults, making sexual remarks and offences relating to the sale of alcohol and vapes. Then aged 16, the girl alleged she was attacked by Emre on separate occasions in August 2024. She told the court how she was sitting on the stairs in Little Boss when Emre, who had been sitting in front of her, moved behind her. 'I felt his hands on my shoulders,' the girl told fiscal depute Michael Robertson. 'He was rubbing my shoulders, down my back, on my chest and in my bra. 'He moved them up to my neck and then my face. His fingers were on my lips.' Mr Robertson asked: 'Did Jack say anything during this?' The girl replied: 'He asked if I had ever had sex before. I said no. 'I froze and I couldn't speak. He asked if I felt relaxed. He asked if I was horny. 'I was staring at the wall crying. He asked if I wanted to go downstairs.' When questioned about what she understood that to mean, she told the prosecutor: 'I thought he was going to do something else. 'I thought he was going to rape me.' The teenager described running out of Little Boss before being comforted by a friend and vomiting in the toilet at Big Boss. She alleged Emre grabbed her face and tried to kiss her in a separate incident, which she said 'terrified' her. The court heard claims the teenager discussed her experiences with friends over social media. It was alleged by the girl Emre sexually assaulted her again in Little Boss by trying to kiss her. She said: 'He put his hands on my face. He told me that he wants to be with me. 'He grabbed my face and tried to pull me in. I pushed him off me and said 'no, I'm 16'.' The girl described making a TikTok some time later about Emre's alleged behaviour towards her. Defence counsel Murray Macara KC questioned the discussions the girl had with her friends on social media about Emre. He said in cross-examination: 'Have you and your friends got together to tell a story and tell lies about Jack?' She replied: 'No'. Mr Macara suggested the incident on the stairs 'simply did not happen' and his client did not touch her on the face or body, to which the girl retorted: 'Yes, he did.' Emre, of Market Street, denies five sexual offence charges, five licensing allegations and two allegations relating to working time regulations. The trial before Sheriff Gregor Murray will continue in August.
