Cath lab to be operational in Government Wenlock Hospital shortly

The Cath lab on the ground floor of the new surgical block of the Government Wenlock Hospital will be operational soon, with fire safety clearance by the Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services Department expected shortly, said Wenlock Hospital Superintendent D.S. Shivaprakash here on Friday. During the general meeting of the Arogya Raksha Samiti of the Hospital, chaired by Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, Dean of KMC-Mangaluru, B. Unnikrishnan, said that KMC has been paying salaries assigned for the Cath lab, which was yet to begin operations. Dr. Shivaprakash said that the Cath lab functioning was delayed as fire safety clearance was awaited. With the Fire and Emergency Services Department completing the inspection, clearance was expected shortly, Dr. Shivaprakash said. The charges were fixed at ₹42,000 for a single stent and ₹59,500 for two stents for an above poverty line (APL) cardholder, the Superintendent said. For additional stents, the charge would be ₹20,194, while a BPL cardholder would not be charged for stents. An APL beneficiary would have to pay ₹7,000 for an angiogram and a BPL beneficiary, ₹5,000. The charges were far less compared to those at Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bengaluru, he said. The Minister said State government will consider making angiogram free for BPL beneficiaries. When Samiti members pointed to the poor patients facing difficulty in bearing the preliminary CT scan and MRI test charges at Hindlabs MRI Scan Centre on the hospital premises, Dr. Shivaprakash said MRPL has come forward to set up a new CT scan and MRI Test facility. 'This might be finalised during this financial year. With the new lab, CT Scan and MRI will be free for poor patients,' he said. The Minister said 14 district hospitals in the State provided free MRI and CT scans for poor patients. To the delay in acquiring land from the church to widen the road in front of the old OPD block and close the road leading to Mangaluru Central Railway Station, Mr. Rao said land cannot be taken by force. Officials will have to convince church administrators to part with the land, the Minister said.

Class 8 boy murder: Two kidnapper-killers arrested in Bengaluru

Hours after finding the half-burnt body of 13-year-old Nishchith A., who was kidnapped for ransom, in the Bannerghatta forest in Bengaluru on July 31 evening, police shot at two alleged kidnapper-killers in their legs. The duo was arrested in the same forest. The arrested persons are Shivaprakash, 25, a resident off Bannerghatta Road, who was reportedly working as a driver earlier and is known to the boy and his parents, and Gopi, 27. The duo were allegedly hiding in the Bannerghatta forest, near Bilvaradahalli, where the boy's body was found. When police went to apprehend them, they allegedly tried to attack police officials with a knife and a dagger, and tried to flee. While Shivaprakash was shot in both his legs, Gopi was shot in his right leg before they could be arrested. Both the accused are being treated at Victoria Hospital. The accused are believed to have confessed to the crime. Shivaprakash first befriended the boy's mother and through her got to know the victim as well. Learning about the family background, he abducted the boy and sent a message on WhatsApp to his mother demanding ₹5 Lakh as ransom to release the boy. However, since the boy knew him, he allegedly panicked fearing that the boy would identify him if he was released, and slit his throat with a dagger. Then, he tried to destroy evidence by burning the body. Police said they suspect the involvement of another associate of Shivaprakash, and are on the lookout for him. Nishchith A., 13, went missing on the night of July 30 while returning home from his tuition classes. While his parents were searching for him, they found his cycle near Arakere park. Police found CCTV footage of the boy riding pillion on a bike with one of the accused. Next day, the boy's mother received a message on WhatsApp demanding a ransom of ₹5 lakh, which provided leads on the abductors. However, before the police could track them down, the half-burnt body of the boy was found in Bannerghatta forest on July 31 around 5 p.m.

Bengaluru: Amid alleged political links, rowdy murder case sent to CID

Bengaluru: The state govt has transferred the probe into the murder of rowdy-sheeter Shivaprakash alias Biklu Shivu to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The move comes in the backdrop of the alleged involvement of powerful individuals and the risk of pressure on local police. An order entrusting the case to CID's additional director general of police, BK Singh, was issued by the DG-IGP, MA Saleem. A senior officer said while local police are capable of probing the case, the transfer was necessitated by the alleged role of land mafia and links to politicians. The victim had, earlier this year, approached the then Bengaluru police commissioner, alleging threats from an MLA and others. The matter was handed to an assistant commissioner of police but did not progress further. Five arrested in rowdy sheeter murder case in Bengaluru; MLA Basavaraj summoned

The city police on Thursday arrested five people in connection with the murder of 44-year-old rowdy-sheeter Shivaprakash in east Bengaluru's Bharathinagar on Tuesday. Former Urban Development Minister and MLA Byrathi Basavaraj, who was among five persons booked for the murder, has been served a notice to appear before the police, according to D. Devaraj, DCP, East. The arrested have been identified as Kiran, Vimal, Pradeep, Madan, and Samuel. A Bengaluru court on Thursday granted 10-day custody of the suspects to the police. Considering the gravity of the case, Prakash Rathode, Assistant Commissioner of Police, K.G. Halli, has been named as the investigating officer. Shivaprakash, a rowdy sheeter and realtor, was allegedly hacked to death by a group of unidentified assailants near his house in Bharathinagar on Tuesday. The FIR was registered based on a complaint by Vijayalakshmi, the mother of the deceased, who witnessed the murder on July 15. According to the complainant, on July 15, around 8.10 p.m., a group of unidentified assailants attacked Shivaprakash when he was standing outside their house at Bharathinagar with his driver Imran Khan and friend Lokesh. When Imran Khan tried to rescue Shivaprakash, he was also attacked. She said she saw Lokesh filming the attack on his mobile phone. She screamed for help, and seeing people rush to the spot, the assailants fled, but by then, Shivaprakash was dead, the complainant said. The complainant also said that Shivaparakash had been engaged in the real estate business, as part of Extreme Point (Promoters and Developers) Private Limited, for the past year. She said her son had gotten a General Power of Attorney (GPA) for a plot of land at Kothanur in 2023. He had built a shed and arranged for two women to live there as security guards. Then in February 2025, two men — Jagadish alias Jagga and Kiran — trespassed into the plot of land and threw out the two women living there. Ms. Vijayalakshmi claimed that later, Jagadish called Shivaparakash, threatening to 'not let him be alive' if he doesn't transfer the GPA to his name, as it was 'his area'. Shivaprakash had also complained about the threats to the police. According to the FIR, he was allegedly murdered by eight persons who were instigated by the MLA for K.R. Puram, Byrathi Basavaraj. Mr. MLA Basavaraj has been listed as accused number five in the case.
