Banke Bihari temple urges vulnerable devotees to skip Janmashtami visit
Agra: The Banke Bihari temple administration has issued an advisory urging devotees not to bring small children, elderly individuals, pregnant women, persons with disabilities, and patients with comorbidities to the temple during Janmashtami celebrations due to the anticipated heavy influx of pilgrims. In a press note released on Wednesday, the temple said that on August 16 and 17, when the Janmashtami fair is scheduled, crowd density at Vrindavan's Banke Bihari temple is expected to be extremely high. The administration cited health risks posed by the combination of intense heat, humidity, and the ongoing rainy season, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with diabetes or high blood pressure. The advisory was issued as part of precautionary measures to prevent health hazards and crowd-related incidents similar to what occurred in Aug 2022, when at least two devotees were killed and several injured due to overcrowding at the temple. In addition to the temple advisory, a series of cultural programmes will be held across Braj on Aug 15, 16, and 17, featuring performances by local and renowned artists. A display of 5,100 oil lamps is also planned across the region. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If You Drink Almond Milk Daily, This Is What Happens Well Being For All Learn More Undo To enhance the festive atmosphere, all major roads and intersections in Mathura-Vrindavan will be decorated with lighting, including façade illumination at three locations. Four large entry gates will be constructed to guide the flow of pilgrims, and 1,025 sanitation workers will be deployed in three shifts to maintain hygiene. Security arrangements are also being stepped up. SSP Mathura Shlok Kumar said additional police force has been requested and coordination is underway with priests from Dwarkadhish temple and other local shrines. On Janmashtami day, crowd control measures such as holding areas and barricades will be implemented from the entrance of Krishna Janmabhoomi to Keshav Temple. "Efforts will be made to ensure smooth entry and exit for all devotees," Kumar said. The 161-year-old Banke Bihari temple, spread over just 1,200 square feet, typically receives around 50,000 devotees daily, with footfall crossing 1 lakh on weekends and over 5 lakh on festivals, making crowd control and safety a major concern.

Last Updated: Mathura, Jul 19 (PTI) Six people, including three from the same family, died and two others were injured when a mini-van rammed into a truck on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district, police on Saturday said. 'The accident took place at milestone 140 around 3 am. The Agra-bound mini-van rammed into a heavy vehicle possibly due to the driver falling asleep at the wheel," said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar. 'Six people died on the spot, while two sustained serious injuries and were admitted to a hospital," he added. The SSP said that the family members of the deceased have been informed and further action is being taken. The deceased persons have been identified as Dharamveer (55) and his sons Rohit (20) and Aryan (16), the residents of Uttar Pradesh's Agra; Dharamveer's nephews Dalveer alias Phule (26) and Parth Singh (22), both residents of Madhya Pradesh's Morena district; and their friend Dushyant (22), a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Amethi district, who died on the spot. Dharamveer's wife Soni (55) and his daughter Payal (18) were seriously injured and are presently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Agra, police said. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination, they said. The impact of the collision was so severe that the police had to use a cutter to take the bodies out of the fully-damaged car. The SSP said the accident took place when Dharamveer, who works as a sweet maker, was returning to his Harlalpur village in Bah tehsil of Agra district. Dharamveer was scheduled to organise Ramayan Paath from Saturday, he added. The senior police official further said that in a separate accident, a private bus on its way from Delhi to Madhya Pradesh overturned near milestone 131 around 4 am. Over 60 passengers were present in the ill-fated bus, which was going from Delhi to Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district. About half of them were injured or wounded. Out of these, police took 29 people to the district hospital. Rapid Response Team in-charge Dr Bhudev Prasad, who is attached with the chief medical officer's office, said that out of the injured brought to the district hospital, nine have been sent to Agra's SN Medical College in view of their condition. A dozen passengers were discharged after treatment, while the treatment of the rest is on, police said. The driver may have fallen asleep while driving, they suspect. 2 children among 3 dead after6 houses collapse in Mathura
1 2 3 Agra: Three people, including two girls aged 3 and 5 years, were killed and a few others were feared trapped under the debris after six small residential units -- one of them a two-storey house -- collapsed in a congested part of Mathura around 11.30am on Sunday. Police said the incident took place due to excavation activity for a parking lot, and "the digging work had weakened the foundation of nearby houses". Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar said, "As many as six houses -- built on private plots on a mound -- in a densely populated residential area -- collapsed in Masani neighbourhood under Govind Nagar police station. A search and rescue operation was initiated. We are in the process of filing an FIR against one Sunil Chen, responsible for carrying out the excavation work." Those dead were Totaram, 35; and sisters Kajal, 3; and Yashoda 5. The two children had arrived at their grandparents' place from Vrindavan on Saturday evening and were asleep when the incident happened. Teams from NDRF, SDRF, fire department personnel and civil defence volunteers were pressed into action for rescue operation. Six bulldozers along with heavy machinery were also used to clear the concrete. Residents of the area said the houses -- nearly a decade old -- came down "within minutes", leading to panic and chaos in the locality, situated on the way to Siddh Baba temple. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Those affected were mainly involved in work related to confectionery and silver casting units.
