Benton boys down Rogersville in state semis
COLUMBIA, Mo–The Show-Me Showdown, Missouri State high school basketball championships are in its final two days. Friday was the semifinals of Class 4 boys and girls. And the Logan-Rogersville Wildcats boys and girls were taking their shots in the semifinals. And both teams were playing the boys and girls from Benton. On the boys side, the Wildcats were fighting from behind all day. Chase Branham with the steal and the slam dunk, LogRog was down by six. But the Cardinals would stay in front, Lincoln Goodwin with the jumper, it's a ten point deficit for Rogersville. Branham doing what he can do, the steal and the fast break hoop, he finished with 18 points. Rogersville trailed by six at the break. Third quarter the Cardinals build the lead, again it's Goodwin with the jumper, he finished with 34 points. Benton up by 11. Rogersville made a fourth quarter push, Titus Moore's three narrows the lead to five. But that's as close at the Wildcats would get, Benton wins 61-53. Staley rallies past Kickapoo in state semis
COLUMBIA, Mo–On the girls side of Missouri state high school basketball Wednesday, in Class 5, the Kickapoo Lady Chiefs battled Staley. Kickapoo is no stranger to the Show-Me Showdown. The Lady Chiefs were looking for a seventh state championship. Kickapoo lost in the championship game last year. And a strong start for the Lady Chiefs, Anyiah Doig steals the ball and then takes it coast to coast for the layup, it's 8-7 Kickapoo after the first quarter. Then in the second Mikayla Pilley working hard in the paint gets the basket, Kickapoo was up 14-12. And the Lady Chiefs led by two at halftime. Third quarter, more Kickapoo, Josie Salazar swishes the ten footer, Chiefs up 20-14. Then Taylyn Whited with the putback, Kickapoo led by six late in the third quarter. But Staley opened the fourth on a seven-nothing run, Londyn Parker with the jumper gives the Falcons the lead 29-27. And Staley scored 18 points in the fourth quarter and goes onto win 42-37.
