Shure launches AV solutions tailored for IT-managed spaces

Shure has launched a trio of new products designed to meet the evolving needs of IT-managed spaces in a hybrid-first world: the MXA901 Ceiling Array Microphone, the MXA902 Integrated Ceiling Array, and ShureCloud, a centralised management platform. These latest innovations are engineered to provide scalable, secure, and easily managed audio-visual solutions tailored for IT professionals. The MXA901 is a ceiling array microphone built with Shure's Single Zone Automatic Coverage technology, which ensures seamless voice capture in a 6x6 metre area without the need for manual microphone adjustment. It supports PoE+, Dante, and AES67, making it a flexible choice for integration into existing enterprise AV networks. For organisations needing more than just a microphone, the MXA902 offers an all-in-one solution that combines a ceiling array microphone, wide-dispersion loudspeaker, and IntelliMix Digital Signal Processing (DSP). Its integrated features include echo cancellation, noise reduction, and automatic mixing, enabling high-quality audio through just a single cable and mount. This device is aimed at small to medium-sized meeting rooms and is designed to both simplify installation and reduce hardware complexity. ShureCloud, meanwhile, brings a new level of control and oversight to enterprise audio systems. Through the cloud-based platform, IT administrators can remotely manage Shure devices across multiple sites, perform real-time monitoring, deploy firmware updates, and handle software license management. ShureCloud supports security compliance and operational consistency across locations, making it suitable for businesses of all sizes, from startups to multinational enterprises. "IT teams need audio solutions that are secure, scalable, and simple to manage," said Carla Thornton, Shure Brand Manager at NSL Group Ltd. "That's exactly what Shure have delivered with the MXA901, MXA902, and ShureCloud - enterprise-grade tools built for today's connected environments." The company highlights several benefits of its new offerings for IT teams, including: Fast deployment with minimal cabling requirements Secure integration via 802.1X and AES-256 encryption Remote monitoring and diagnostics capabilities through ShureCloud Future-ready infrastructure with support for firmware updates and API integration Shure's focus on interoperability is further demonstrated by the Microsoft Teams certification for the MXA901 and MXA902, ensuring compatibility with leading unified communication platforms. The introduction of these products comes at a time when IT departments are under increasing pressure to provide AV solutions that are not only reliable and high-performing but also manageable across distributed workforces. With many enterprises adopting hybrid work models, the ability to maintain consistent AV quality and functionality across rooms and locations has become critical. ShureCloud is particularly designed to meet this challenge. With remote device management, real-time monitoring, and centralised firmware updates, the platform reduces downtime and ensures that system performance remains optimised, regardless of physical location. Organisations interested in experiencing the products firsthand can register their interest in visiting the Shure Experience Centre in Auckland or request an onsite demonstration. These hands-on sessions aim to give IT leaders and AV specialists a closer look at how Shure's latest innovations can support their evolving needs. Connect Any XLR Microphone To A Mac Or PC With Shure's MVX2U Adapter

Recently I was thinking about using one of my favorite XLR microphones for some recording directly to a laptop on location. Professional microphones usually include an XLR connector that needs to be plugged into a separate USB audio interface, but it's just one more bulky bit of kit to carry around. So, what's the solution? One answer could be to use a USB microphone with a built-in interface, although that would mean buying another microphone that you might only use on odd occasions. However, if you already own or have a favorite XLR microphone that you use most of the time and would like to take it on the road, there is a compact solution. The Shure MVX2U is a small gadget that plugs into the XLR connector of any microphone and turns it into a USB model. In essence, the MVX2U is a compact USB audio interface that turns any condenser or dynamic microphone into a USB-compatible microphone that's easier to transport and plug into a laptop. Designed to be ready to record or stream audio straight out of the box when used with any XLR microphone, this compact device is aimed at podcasters, content creators and even musicians who want to use a high-end XLR mic. The Shure MVX2U will work with most Windows/Mac computers and is compatible with the Shure MOTIV Mix app and works with any microphone. Shure's MOTIV software has an intelligent DSP with an auto-level gain mode that can automatically adjust a microphone's gain to ensure a consistent sound output. The ShurePlus MOTIV desktop app provides extras like a customizable sound signature with both auto-level mode and manual settings, it can be used to update the firmware of the MVX2U. The configurable DSP has a manual mode that provides adjustable gain levels, a limiter, a compressor and EQ settings. All the settings can be saved as presets. The MVX2U is also able to supply 48V of phantom power which is essential for driving condenser mics. With up to +60dB of gain, the MVX2U has enough power to amplify signals from traditionally hard-to-drive microphones such as Shure's iconic SM7B. To provide zero-latency monitoring, the MVX2U includes a built-in 3.5mm headphone jack for live monitoring and checking playback. The device is made to be robust enough to survive life on the road. The MVX2U is compatible with both macOS and Windows computers and comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable in the box for plugging it in directly to the host computer. The Shure MVX2U audio interface is available now and is priced at $129 / £129 / €129.

Women in audio take center stage as the UAE paves the way in shaping sound

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Following International Women's Day on March 8, more organizations are playing their part in helping the region make meaningful strides in accelerating action toward addressing barriers and biases that women face in their respective careers. Audio technology pioneer and leader Shure is among those walking the talk in the region, with a third of its UAE workforce being women. The Company is led by Chris Schyvinck, President and CEO, who has been at Shure for 35 years. Schyvinck follows in the footsteps of Rose L. Shure, who took over the leadership of Shure Inc. after her husband S.N. Shure died in 1995. Mrs. Shure was instrumental in helping the Company achieve numerous milestones throughout her leadership, which spanned over 60 years. Her leadership still serves as a motivation and inspiration to women in the audio industry. Historically underrepresented in STEM fields, women are gaining ground thanks to progressive government policies, corporate leadership, and community-driven efforts. In the UAE, for instance, a remarkable 56% of STEM graduates are women, outpacing many Western nations. These much-needed efforts have strategically positioned the UAE as a leader in promoting women in technology. Walking the talk According to Schyvinck, a defining narrative is taking shape in the technology sector whereby women are no longer just participants - they are leaders, innovators, and change-makers. She also commends government-backed initiatives like the UAE Gender Balance Council and the One Million Arab Coders program, recognizing their impact, which has in turn created pathways for women to thrive in technology. "The audio industry must not just include women, but empower them. This shift starts with early exposure, mentorship, and tangible opportunities to take leadership roles,' said Schyvinck. 'At Shure, and in line with our 100-year milestone, we are continuing to actively expand additional representation in the audio industry." Leading by example Schyvinck's leadership has been instrumental in launching an employee resource group called the 'Women Everywhere (WE) VIBE', a flagship initiative for supporting equality at Shure around the world. The program offers mentorship, networking opportunities, and a "Celebrating Women in Technology" panel series featuring global industry experts. Additionally, the company's IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access) initiative is working to create a more inclusive work environment. -Ends- About Shure Shure ( has been helping people sound extraordinary for 100 years. Shure's MoveMic 88+ is the first wireless direct-to-phone microphone with selectable polar patterns

Engadget has been testing and reviewing consumer tech since 2004. Our stories may include affiliate links; if you buy something through a link, we may earn a commission. Read more about how we evaluate products. Shure just revealed the MoveMic 88+ wireless direct-to-phone microphone with four selectable polar patterns. The company says this is the first-ever microphone of its type to offer this feature. For the uninitiated, polar patterns dictate where a microphone picks up sound. Most of the mics in this category offer just an omnidirectional polar pattern, which records equally from all sides. Some companies swap that out for a cardioid pattern, which picks up audio from a single direction. The MoveMic 88+ offers access to both of the aforementioned polar patterns, in addition to bi-directional and raw mid-side. Why does any of this matter? It increases the versatility of the microphone. The cardioid pattern is perfect for, say, a TikTok video or an acoustic performance. The bi-directional pattern would be the go-to choice for a two-person interview and the omnidirectional pattern is the one to select for a field recording. The microphone also offers a bevy of mounting options. It attaches to most popular tripods and mic stands with included mic clips and can be used as a handheld microphone. It pairs directly with a mobile phone via Shure's MOTIV app, without the need for the company's MoveMic Receiver. It can, however, integrate with the receiver if you want to use it with a regular camera or a computer. The app also gives users controls over the audio signal, with settings like gain, EQ, high pass filter and more. The wireless range maxes out at 100 feet and the battery lasts around eight hours per charge. The MoveMic 88+ is available right now for $299 and comes with a cold shoe mic clip, 5/8' mic clip and USB-C charging cable. Shure introduced another wireless direct-to-phone microphone last year, but that one didn't feature selectable polar patterns. It also recently unveiled a pretty nifty condenser mic that includes a built-in two-channel audio interface.
