Bemedalled swimmer Titus Sia dedicates Palaro success to brother in autism spectrum
ILOCOS NORTE - What began as a shared activity with his older brother turned into a passion for Titus Sia, who is now the most decorated male athlete in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa. The 12-year-old Sia shared he only started swimming when he was around four years old, joining his brother Chace in the latter's swimming lessons as a way to cope with the challenges of mild autism. Sia went on to compete in several tournaments every weekend, but would be forced to take a pause for more than two years due to the pandemic. Eventually, when the new normal began, his mother Hyacinth helped him join a swim club at Xavier School to continue his training. That marked the start of his competitive journey. "Kasi 'yung older brother ko special and 'yung mama ko decided to make him do swimming so that after each swim lesson he'll be less hyper. She let me joined it and I found joy and I kept swimming after that," Sia said after sweeping all of his seven events in this year's Palaro in Ilocos Norte. "Five or four (years old ako nag-start) but I stopped for three years because of pandemic. Only after the pandemic did I start doing competitive." Niño Sia, his father, admitted they had let Titus try other sports like basketball, but the latter opted to go with swimming and shared seeing him do it with his older brother is something special, hoping they inspire others too. "'Yung older brother niya ay under the spectrum of mild autism," Niño shared. "Kasi ang mga SPED or special they want water para ma-release 'yung excess energy nila so nu'ng bata siya (older brother) pinapa-swim namin and may personal coach na pumupunta. Eventually, dahil continuous 'yung trainng ng older brother niya, pina-swim na rin si Titus para kahit papaano ay may like skill." Knowing how his son started out, Niño was just speechless he performed at Palaro. The younger Sia broke three records to rule the 100m backstroke, 200m freestyle, and 400m events. He also emerged on top in 100m freestyle, 4x50m medley relay, 50m backstroke, and 4x50m freestyle relay. "Hindi rin namin ine-expect na magkakaganito siya, na mananalo sa mga big events katulad nitong Palaro. Coming from a bronze last year, then now na tatlong recods tapos seven out of seven 'yung gold. Speechless din ako," Niño added. "Si Titus, mabait naman siya. Never siya nag-complain, kumbaga gustong-gusto niya 'yung pressure." Bridgerton Candlelight Experience set for return to Dublin
A local string quartet set to perform song featured in the Shondaland show on the night Fans of Netflix's hit show Bridgerton may have to wait until next year for its fourth season, but Candlelight Experience has just what they need to withstand the wait. Shondaland and Fever have joined forces to bring the Bridgerton Candlelight Session Best-of to St Andrew's Parish Church on Westland Row. The concert, entitled Candlelight: The Best of Bridgerton, will take place on July 11, at 7.30pm and 9.30pm. For one night only, the church will be awash with candlelight as guests bask in the sounds that defined the show's past three seasons, including Billie Eilish's Bad Guy, Ariana Grande's Thank u, next, and Sia's Cheap Thrills. The shows last about an hour and are only accessible to those aged 8 and up. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Ticket prices range from €31.50 to €44 and are accessible via the Candlelight Experience website. The local string quartet set to perform on the night is yet to be announced for Dublin. Attendees who wish to enjoy a dinner ahead of the concert are invited to reserve their place at the Day & Night restaurant in Dublin. Previously, Dublin candlelight concerts have paid homage to the works of Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer and Studio Ghibli's Joe Hishaishi. The Bridgerton Candlelight Experience was previously in Dublin last September following the release of the show's third season. The third chapter, focused on Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton's romance and courtship. Galway-born Coughlan said at the launch of the season in Dublin that the Galway gossip helped her step into the role of Lady Whistledown, the secret chronicler of all high society musings. The fourth season will focus on Benedict Bridgerton's (Luke Thompson) relationship with Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), a mysterious new arrival. Shondaland, the official production company behind Bridgerton, recently announced the show had been renewed for a fifth and sixth season.

Swimmer Titus Sia breaks two Palarong Pambansa records in one day
ILOCOS NORTE - National Capital Region's young tanker Titus Rafael Sia broke two old records on the way to winning a pair of gold medals in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa on Tuesday at the FEMMS in Laoag, Ilocos Norte. The 12-year-old swimmer ruled both 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle of the elementary boys' division, which saw him shatter the events' previous best marks. Sia clocked in two minutes and 7.86 seconds in the freestyle event, eclipsing the two minutes and 8.12 seconds set by Rafael Barreto in 2013. He also registered one minute and 5.44 seconds in the backstroke event to surpass Seth Isaak Martin's one minute and 6.38 seconds in 2015. Aside from these two, Sia also bagged a gold medal 4x50 medley relay together with Reighlem Salon, Findlay Mackenzie, and Joshua Chua after they posted 2:6.83 seconds. —JMB, GMA Integrated News
