Volleyball tourney kicks off

Vijayawada: The Siddhartha educational institutions are dedicated to training the youth to excel in various fields by honing their skills, said Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan. He was the chief guest at the inauguration of the All India Invitational Volleyball Tournament, which began on Monday at the PB Siddhartha Arts and Science College grounds and will run until August 14. Malineni Rajaiah, president of the Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education, urged students to maintain focus in both their studies and sports, emphasising the importance of developing sportsmanship in life. During the event, the academy honoured former students and national-level athletes, including PV Ramana (father of PV Sindhu) and G Pradeep. They were felicitated by president Rajaiah, secretary Paladugu Lakshmana Rao, joint secretary Nimmagadda Lalitha Prasad, Principals Dr Meka Ramesh and Ch Venkateswarlu, and Director V Babu Rao. On the opening day, the tournament featured several exciting matches, with teams from SRM-EASA (Chennai) playing against Bishop Moore (Kerala), and the Siddhartha Academy team taking on Holy Grace. Other matches included Karpagam (Coimbatore) versus SAI-Gujarat and Loyola (Chennai) against SAI-Trivandrum in both the men's and women's categories.

VIJAYAWADA: The Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education is set to host the All India Invitational Tournaments as part of its golden jubilee celebrations from August 11. Addressing the media at the Siddhartha College here on Friday, Principal Meka Ramesh said that Minister for Housing and Information and Public Relations Kolusu Parthasarathy will inaugurate the volleyball tournaments for men and women and MLA Gadde Ramamohan will also participate. Volleyball (Men's and Women's) from August 11 to 14 and Basketball (Men's) from August 17 to 20 would be conducted. Minister for Transport, Youth and Sports Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy would be the chief guest at the valedictory function on August 20. Former SAAP president Ankamma Chowdary said that the tournaments would be in the mode of league-cum-knockout. Necessary arrangements for the players will be arranged for the lavish sports extravaganza planned at an expenditure of Rs 50 lakh. The winners in the tournaments of Volleyball and Basketball would be given a cash prize of Rs one lakh each. The teams from big companies like Integral Coach Factory (Tamil Nadu) and others would also participate in the volleyball tournament. However, only university teams would take part in the Basketball tournament. Academic Advisor L Krishna Mohan Rao, college principal Chundi Venkateswarlu, and director Vemuri Babu Rao, Dr T Balakrishna Reddy (Head of Sports Department), Markandeyulu (PD), Kavuri Sridhar (Placement Officer), and Dr Srinivas Rao (Retired Physical Education Lecturer) were also present at the press meet on Friday.

Ventura-2025, a two-day literary and cultural fest hosted by V.P. Siddhartha Public School (VPS), as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education, concluded on Thursday (July 31, 2025). Students participated with great enthusiasm in competitions like elocution (Telugu), Best from Waste, spell bee, and group dance. Academic Advisor, Siddhartha Academy, L.K. Mohan Rao addressing the students at the valedictory session, encouraged them to strive for excellence in whatever field they choose. Three alumni of VPS Public School were felicitated for their achievements. School Principal Meda Sitaramaiah, Vice-Principal K. Rose Mary and headmistress Ch. Jayalakshmi supervised the arrangements of the event.
