Poida's Poise Secures Vanuatu Fifth Place At OFC Women's Nations Cup 2025
Having beaten hosts Fiji in their final group game and only narrowly missing out on the semi-finals, Vanuatu came into tonight's Fifth place play-off with momentum on their side. Vanuatu had the ball in the back of the net in the sixth minute, but the goal was disallowed after the ball was judged to have been kicked out of the hands of Tahitian goalkeeper Camille Andre, Leimata Simon bearing down on goal but only able to hit at Andre, then the crossbar, with the rebound bundled by Angelina Poida over the line via the goalkeeper's grasp. Undeterred, Vanuatu tried again, with Simon the target. The sharpshooter looking to continue her record of scoring in every appearance this tournament, and the Tahiti defence content to absorb the pressure and try to catch Vanuatu out on a quick counterattack. Some individual brilliance and flair from Simon almost paid off for the striker, as she attempted to juggle past Julienne Naomi and win a free kick in the process, but she couldn't get the ball back down quick enough to challenge Andre. But Vanuatu's breakthrough came in a moment of magic from Poida in the 28th minute. Latching onto to a long ball from Willine Viti on the right, her first touch deftly took her away from a scrambling Andre, giving her time to set up for an emphatic finish for her second. Vanuatu searched for a second goal, dominating possession and time in Tahiti's half, with the excellent Rita Solomon setting the tempo from midfield. But they were frustrated by Tahiti's compacted defence, which was well-marshalled by Gwendoline Fournier. Tahiti came agonizingly close to snatching a dramatic equalizer deep in added time when a Tahitian corner was only cleared as far as Kohai Mai, who quickly unleashed a shot goalwards, but Vanuatu's Amelia Reddy was level to it, securing her third clean sheet of the competition, Vanuatu's third win, and their best-ever finish in the OFC Women's Nations Cup.

Sunday Brunch turns awkward as host admits 'no wonder we've never won a Bafta'
Sunday Brunch host Simon Rimmer was forced to address the fact the Channel 4 show has never won a Bafta during the latest episode as fans were left fuming over the lineup Sunday Brunch took an awkward twist in the latest instalment, leaving host Simon Rimmer to point out their lack of Bafta recognition. On the show, which aired Sunday (July 13), Simon was joined by his regular sidekick Tim Lovejoy, The Spanish Chef aka Omar Allibhoy, and a slew of starry guests including Conan Gray (singer), Sam Palladio (actor), Adam Kay (British TV writer), Laura Checkley (comedian), Aggy K Adams (actress) and Amy Macdonald (singer). The atmosphere turned a little cringeworthy when Omar had to switch on the deafening blender to whip up a watermelon gazpacho soup, meant to be paired with his tuna carpaccio dish for the hosts and celeb guests on set. Omar issued a pre-emptive apology before triggering the noisy contraption, prompting bewildered expressions all round as it roared on, uninterrupted, live on air. Once the noise ceased, Simon returned to the spotlight, a touch sheepishly, acknowledging: "It's no wonder we've never won a Bafta," to the amusement of everyone present, reports the Express. Despite the blender blunder passing relatively unnoticed by viewers, they didn't miss the chance to share their verdict on the episode as it broadcast live on Sunday, July 13. A deluge of complaints hit X - the platform formerly known as Twitter - as viewers blasted Channel 4's cooking show, branding it "way past its sell by date" and some even speculated that the series might get axed within months. One disgruntled viewer wrote: "There is a downside to being a to promote your book/show on this boring #sundaybrunch." Another exasperated tweet stated: "Sorry... How the f*** is #SundayBrunch still going. It feels unprofessional and is totally boring. They're currently asking how many teeth a Racoon has to a panel of people who, no doubt, want to sell us some s*** books. The show is tired. Next." Echoing these sentiments, a third critic remarked: "I give it 6/12 months show has long past its sell by date #SundayBrunch." The programme also faced criticism for its lacklustre content and unfamiliar celebrity guests, with many viewers expressing their disconnect on social media. One person tweeted: "Legitimately all the guests are strangers to me. They could be standing at a bus stop. Does anyone watching know them? #sundaybrunch. "Another panel of nobody's on #SundayBrunch...," a second user complained, while another added: "Nope. Not a clue as to who any of these Zlebz are.... #sundaybrunch." Despite the barrage of negative feedback, there were those who enjoyed the latest instalment, with one fan praising the episode on Sunday Brunch's official Instagram account: "Brilliant show."

Biffy Clyro show 50 Cent how it's done Glasgow TRNSMT 2025
I couldn't help but compare the headline set to that of 50 Cent - both acts are legends in their own right and have 20+ years in the game. But Biffy blew Fiddy completely out of the water and the non-existent roof off of Glasgow Green. You could blame it on the home advantage, but the Ayrshire-born trio were just undeniably better. (Image: LESLEY MARTIN) READ MORE: LIVE Surprises at Saturday TRNSMT with secret set and Jake Bugg Where 50 Cent had hype men and a stop-start storyline of a show that was meant to cement his legacy, but fell a bit flat. Biffy just gave the crowd a bang for their buck blasting of the best of their back catalogue. And the crowd lapped up every riff and lyric, showing more energy in Biffy's opener than the rapper managed to squeeze out of them with his biggest hit, In Da Club. I've seen Biffy Clyro more times than I can remember - tonight's headline at TRNSMT 2025 was something special. The crowds have been baked in unrelenting heat and sunshine at the warmest ever year of the festival. However, Biffy turned the temperature up a further notch from the outset. Chants of 'Biffy, Biffy, Biffy f***g Clyro' and 'Mon the Biff' built up before they took to the stage. The band walked out to one of the biggest cheers of the day - frontman Simon Neil was decked out in a black kilt. The Captain opened the blistering set and announced the one thing the TRNSMT crowd hoped - the Biff were back. 'Let's hear you Glasgow' was met with easily the loudest sing-along of the weekend yet and proved that the Biff had never actually left. (Image: LESLEY MARTIN) READ MORE: I took £20 to TRNSMT 2025 and got less than I hoped for READ MORE: I asked the TRNSMT 2025 crowd for outfit advice - their responses were bold That Golden Rule continued the revisit to Only Revolutions as the band flexed their immense back catalogue. Simon gushed: 'Glasgow, we've missed you - I hope you're all ready for some serious singing tonight, in Costa Del Glasgow.' The stage presence and production are of top quality and only surpassed by the musicianship on display. Who's Got A Match set the crowd alight as Simon swung a light around his head maniacally, before Biblical was belted out at deafening, biblical, volume by the crowd. Rearrange brought the dynamic into a slower pace, but the sing-along continued, heralded by the band calling the crowd 'angels'. Wolves Of Winter dropped like an atomic bomb as red streamers flew into the crowd. Before Tiny Indoor Fireworks got just as good a reception and flowed into the new release A Little Love. The new tune is them at their bombastic best as Simon declared, 'Really, we wanna show you a shit ton of love.' Born On A Horse returned Biffy Clyro to their past albums and had the crowd singing guitar riffs back to them - once a staple of Scottish festivals but rare at this TRNSMT. 'This one goes out to all our fellow gingers," jokes red-haired bassist James before they kicked into Space. Then the inevitable happened - they got topless for Different People and they launched into Hunger In Your Haunt from the 2021 album The Myth Of The Happily Ever After. 'We've been excited about playing this show since we found out last year so thanks very much for being with us," admits Simon. Mountains was just another example of the band showing off the depth of their sound, and the hit turned the volume knob up to 11. Stingin' Belle was them at their bombarding best, and Simon howled like the last 20-odd years had taken no toll on his voice. A bagpiper appeared for the prog-rock build-up to finish the song as the band sweatily went off stage. Coming back out on his own, Simon started the encore with Machines, which was a beautiful moment as the crowd joined in with every word. Living Is A Problem Cos Everything Dies from the album Puzzle saw them be their playful best. Anf finale Many Of Horror saw fireworks fly into the East End sky - cementing yet another phenomenal Biffy show. They left the stage to a wall of feedback and the scream 'We are BIFFY F***N' CLYRO!' The best in the business. (Biff-ness).

TRNSMT revellers push through heatwave to welcome back music legends Biffy Clyro and enjoy secret set on day two
The temperature had peaked at 29C as punters soaked up the sun and brilliant sounds CLYROH MY GOSH TRNSMT revellers push through heatwave to welcome back music legends Biffy Clyro and enjoy secret set on day two LOCAL heroes Biffy Clyro moved Mountains tonight with a sensational performance that brought a scorching Day Two of TRNSMT to an epic end. The Scots rockers belted out a brilliant set as 50,000 revellers refused to turn down the heat after an afternoon of searing summer sunshine. But a five-year absence clearly made hearts grow fonder as the headliners were welcomed to the Main Stage with a massive roar. The temperature had peaked at 29°C (84.2F) as punters soaked up the sun and brilliant sounds. And Irish rockers Fontaines DC raised political tensions by taking to the stage to a song by their compatriots Kneecap — who'd been removed from the line-up over security concerns. Advertisement It followed controversy over their comments on Gaza and other subjects. It's been 30 years since Biffy Clyro formed but lead singer Simon, 45, showed no signs of slowing down as he put on an energetic display. And he greeted their sun-baked fans with: 'What a lovely day to see you all in Glasgow Del Sol.' Hits such as Bubbles, Many of Horror and Space led to massive singalongs as the crowd became the band's fourth member. Advertisement Biffy recently unleashed two new songs at Glasgow's SWG3 venue at a secret show under their former name Screwfish. And they treated TRNSMT to a taste of their first new music since album The Myth of Happily Ever After was released four years ago. How to survive TRNSMT 2025 Simon also lit up the massive arena at one point by swinging a lamp around his head. The show was lapped up by Post Office worker Laura Brant, 31, and her fiancé fireman Sam Grace, 40 — who told how they got engaged at a Biffy Clyro gig. Advertisement TOMORROW'S MUST SEE ACTS GRACIE ABRAMS MAIN STAGE @7.45PM IT was clear from the get go that Gracie would be one of the most popular acts this year. Fans couldn't say enough good things about the US singer after she supported Taylor Swift on her Eras tour. Now the song-writer and Grammy-award-winner will delight her fans with a main stage set. KYLE FALCONER KING TUT'S STAGE @2.20PM BEST known as the frontman of The View, Falconer is adapting to his newer role of solo performer. The Dundee rocker is enjoying a simpler life in Spain with his family, but there's no doubt fans will see hints of his former wild side on the King Tut's. SHED SEVEN KING TUT'S STAGE @8.20PM YOU can't go wrong with a bit of Britpop nostalgia. And this group are still going strong after 35 years and released two albums in 2024. With seven top 20 singles, six top 10 albums and fan-favorites like Going For Gold, Chasing Rainbows and Disco Down, fans old and young will enjoy getting to grips with such an experienced live act. Laura, from Bedale, North Yorkshire, told The Scottish Sun on Sunday: 'I had to make a special sign for the band. 'I don't think they noticed Sam popped the question at their gig. 'Hopefully they find out about it. And they'd be more than welcome as our wedding guests.' Danielle Roberts, 35, of Bishopton, Renfrewshire, drew plenty of admirers for her silver outfit. Advertisement She said: 'You have to dress to impress at TRNSMT. But the silver had to come off eventually because it was so warm.' Pal Suzanne Reddie, 42, from Greenock, added: 'Some of the outfits were incredible.' Camilla Johnson, Iona Taylor, Blythe Thorburn and Milly MacDonald, all 18, travelled from Selkirk and Melrose for The Kooks. But they stopped at a stall outside Glasgow Green to be fitted out with matching pink stetsons. Advertisement Milly said: 'They were good for the heat and for being able to see each other in the crowds.' Hollie Baker, 33, travelled from Leeds with Scarlet Mapanya and Georgie Fisher, both 16. AMY TAKEN ABACK AT SECRET SHOW AMY Macdonald shocked fans with a secret show at TRNSMT. The local hero, 37, appeared on the bill under the name Mrs Rock & Roll in the Hangout area for over-18s only. She told the crowd: 'Thanks so much. I actually can't hear myself think. For the first time ever I wasn't even able to try to sing because you guys were just singing for me.' The performance coincided with the release of her new album, Is This What You've Been Waiting For? She previously revealed the record — her sixth — was partly inspired by TRNSMT. Amy, from Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, said: 'I was a bit nervous going out because the crowd were really young and I thought to myself, gosh, some of these kids wouldn't even have been born when these songs were coming out. They're not going to enjoy this. They're not going to know anything. 'I was so taken aback by how they just knew every word and they were just having the time of their life. I was so moved I went back and I wrote Can You Hear Me?' Hollie said: 'The festival is amazing. It's well worth the travel. We can't believe how nice the weather is. 'You could not ask for better conditions for TRNSMT.' Advertisement Eilidh Cook, Chloe Meechan, Martha McClean and Rachel Ross, all 16, travelled from Kilmarnock to see Fontaines DC. Chloe said: 'It was great. The weather is scorching but we're not complaining.' During their set, Fontaines DC showed solidarity with Kneecap by starting Free Palestine chants. They also hailed Glasgow as a 'home away from home'. Advertisement A huge message then appeared on the big screen stating: 'Israel is committing genocide. Use your voice.' The Irish band also displayed a Palestine flag during their set. Norwegian singer-songwriter Sigrid, 28, had earlier given the main stage Scandinavian sparkle. The pop star, who has worked with top acts like Bring Me the Horizon and Griff, got the party started with her best-known tracks such as Don't Feel Like Crying. Advertisement Irish lads Inhaler celebrated the success of their third album Open Wide — also their third consecutive record to top the charts. Two of their biggest fans were the first through the doors after travelling to Glasgow all the way from Montreal, Canada. Arianna Lafoley, 19, and pal Sam Rinone, 20, had only just landed in Scotland when they pitched up at 7am. Sam said: 'We got in the queue at 7.30am for Inhaler. I'm a mega fan. I've been to Dublin and Manchester to see them and was so excited when I heard they were playing TRNSMT.' Advertisement Arianna added: 'We were told Scotland would probably be rainy so we can't believe this sunshine. It's such a beautiful country.'
