Sioux City Railroad Museum looking for tour guides
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The Sioux City Railroad Museum is looking for tour guides for the summer. In a release, the Railroad Museum said that they are looking for older teens and young adults who would be interested in volunteering as tour guides at the museum. During the tour, they would tell stories about the Milwaukee Railroad Repair Shops and the people who worked there. 'This is a great opportunity for students who enjoy history, public speaking, or simply want to get involved in their community,' said Founding Curator Larry Obermeyer. 'We welcome anyone curious to learn and excited to share the story of our railroad heritage.' The museum said that no experience is necessary, and those interested should attend a tour on a Saturday or Sunday to check out a tour and speak with Obermeyer about volunteering. Sioux City Railroad Museum holds Grand Re-Opening
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A Sioux City attraction affected by last summer's floods was the Sioux City Railroad Museum. The museum had to close last June because of flooding. The museum grounds was completely submerged by water from the flooded big Sioux river. It re-opened on March 1st but Saturday they held a Grand Re-Opening Family Day celebration. There were train rides, pony rides, a bouncy house and Lego train displays. according to museum officials, it took a lot of work to get to this day. 'It's been amazing to watch the labor of love and sweat equity that was put in by volunteers, contractors and with the community support with donations and that. They put in tens of thousands of hours to bring this site back after the catastrophic damage done by the flood in June,' said Larry Obermeyer, the President of the Sioux City Railroad Museum. Sioux City student artwork featured at Southern Hills Mall
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — More than 1,000 pieces of original student artwork will be on display at Sioux City's Southern Hills Mall starting Friday evening. The annual display, titled ArtWorks, comes from the Sioux City Community School District. The pieces on display will represent all of the district's schools, along with students from every level from transitional kindergarten through 12th grade. Sioux City Railroad Museum to hold grand re-opening event The display will be near the Barnes and Noble location in the mall. It will be on display from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 2; from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 4. The display is free to view. It aims to showcase and celebrate district students' achievements in art, and help give community members a better understanding of art education within the district. Betty Strong Encounter Center to host St. Patrick's Day-themed ‘What's on Wednesday' event
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Sioux City's Betty Strong Encounter Center continues its series of 'What's on Wednesday' events with a family-friendly, holiday-themed craft project. Sioux City Railroad Museum reopens after months of repairs The March 12 edition of the weekly event series will begin at 5:30 p.m. and run through 6:30. Education Coordinator Elizabeth Albright will lead attendees in making a St. Patrick's Day-themed mobile to take home. The event will also give kids and families a chance to talk about the things they feel 'lucky' to have in their lives. The class is free and open to all families with children. First phase of PlyWood Trail project now open to the public Each week, the 'What's on Wednesday' events switch between focusing on a family or grown-up audience.
