The death of a man found in a park Sir Woolf Fisher Park in Mt Wellington is being treated as unexplained.
Police said they were called to a hardware shop on Ellerslie-Panmure Highway about 1.30am on Wednesday after an alarm went off.
"Police units arrived on scene and established cordons around the store," Detective Senior Sergeant Anthony Darvill said.
Crew in the Eagle helicopter spotted a man lying in the grounds of nearby Sir Woolf Fisher Park, he said.
"It appeared the man was not responsive, and units were directed to his location commencing first aid on him," he said.
However the man was confirmed to have died.
Police are investigating whether he was involved in the burglary.
"We are treating the man's death as unexplained at this very early stage, and expect a post mortem examination to be carried out today," Darvill said.
Police are also looking for one other person in relation to the burglary.
A scene examination was being completed at the reserve, which backs off Barrack Road.
