Cadillac Locks Up WEC Front Row in Brazil, Both Factory Ferraris Miss Hyperpole
Cadillac backed up its 1-2 start at Le Mans last month with a front row lock-up ahead of the Six Hours São Paulo, with Alex Lynn in the No. 12 Cadillac V-Series.R taking pole in Hyperpole by a tenth over Sebastien Bourdais in the No. 38 sister car.
"It feels great to be on pole again, it's a special feeling to drive the Cadillac on one lap," Lynn said on the WEC broadcast about his back-to-back podiums.
"We knew we needed to start at the front for this race," Lynn continued.
The No. 5 Porsche 963, piloted by Julien Andlauer, took third with 21-year-old Malthe Jakobsen following in fourth for Peugeot's best qualifying results of the season in the No. 94. Both Peugeot 9X8 made Hyperpole for the first time. With the No. 93 lining up behind its sister Peugeot, with the No. 20 BMW in between.
With a major BoP adjustment to Ferrari, both factory red Ferraris failed to qualify for the top ten and thus missed out on hyperpole. Le Mans winning Robert Kubica brought the yellow Ferrari into Hyperpole and will start ninth ahead of the factory cars of NO. 50 and No. 51 in 14th and 17th respectively.
"It was to be expected," Nicklas Nielsen said following his teammate's missed qualifying time. "Antonio [Fuoco] was on a good lap but caught a Porsche, and it messed up the quali. If you look at the Toyotas as well, they are struggling. To win the race, we will need a miracle. It's going to be difficult to pass cars when starting at the back."
Qualifying at Interlagos is notorious for drivers getting held up in short qualifying timing slots on the narrow track. In the race passing will be difficult with the majority of overtaking occurs during the race in the 'Senna S's' through turns 1 and 2.
