Ncuti Gatwa exits Doctor Who and regenerates into Billie Piper as fans left speechless
Ncuti Gatwa has left his role as the Fifteenth Doctor after two series and was seen regenerating into Billie Piper. Ncuti Gatwa has stepped down from his role as the Doctor after playing the iconic character for two seasons on the beloved sci-fi series Doctor Who. At the end of the 15th season finale, which aired on Saturday May 31, fans were left stunned as Gatwa was seen regenerating into Billie Piper, who previously played the Doctor's companion, Rose Tyler, when David Tennant was playing the iconic part. In a press release, the BBC refers to the Doctor's regeneration, but says: "Just how and why she [Billie Piper] is back remains to be seen…" Scottish-Rwandan actor Ncuti has released a statement following his shock exit which reads: "This journey has been one that I will never forget, and a role that will be part of me forever." The credit at the end of the programme read: "Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor. Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor. And introducing Billie Piper". It comes after speculation had been building for some time that Gatwa was going to be 'axed' from the programme which the BBC previously denied. A spokesperson for the BBC told the media earlier this month: "Whilst we never comment on the future of the Doctor, any suggestion that Ncuti Gatwa has been 'axed' is pure fiction." As for whether the series will continue, the BBC explained: "As we have previously stated, the decision on season 3 will be made after season 2 airs and any other claims are just pure speculation. The deal with Disney+ was for 26 episodes – and we still have an entire spin off, The War Between the Land and the Sea, to air. And as for the rest, we never comment on the Doctor and future storylines." Meanwhile Billie Piper, who is set to make her shock return, first starred on the show in 2005 when it returned to television for the first time since the 1990s, appearing alongside Christopher Eccleston and then David Tennant. After her memorable role of Rose Tyler for two full series in 2005 and 2006, the 42-year-old won acclaim for roles including sex worker Belle de Jour in Secret Diary of a Call Girl and the lead character in Sky Atlantic's I Hate Suzie. In 2017, Piper won best actress award at the Olivier's, for her performance in the play Yerma. She was most recently nominated for a Bafta for playing TV producer Sam McAlister in Scoop, a drama about Prince Andrew's car crash interview on Newsnight in 2019. After Scots legend Peter Capaldi stepped down as the 12th doctor, Piper told the BBC she believed a woman should take over the coveted role but was not sure about playing the part herself. Capaldi went on to be replaced by Jodie Whittaker, who was then replaced by Sex Education star Ncuti. Gatwa has only played the Doctor for 18 months, appearing in two series, which marks the shortest amount of time any star has been in the role since Christopher Eccleston's one year stint as the Doctor in 2005. There is still uncertainty about when the show will return after it's finale for season 15 was aired tonight on May 31. Showrunner and head writer Russell T Davies previously confirmed that no official decision would be made on commissioning the next series until this series had been broadcast. The last two series of the show have been co-produced and broadcast internationally by streaming service Disney+, which has given the beloved sci-fi series a bigger budget. However, conversations about whether the BBC and Disney wish to renew that deal, or whether other options should be explored, are likely to take a while. In order for a new series to be released in 2026, production would need to get under way relatively soon.

What is Mountainhead? Succession creator's new film explained
Mountainhead sees Succession creator Jesse Armstrong's return with another fast-paced tale of obscenely wealthy people squabbling whilst the world collapses. The writer of the hit series about a media empire headed up by Brian Cox's terrifying patriarch Logan Roy is back on familiar ground with his new film, set to debut on Sky Atlantic on Sunday, 1 June. Here's all you need to know about Mountainhead, including its impressive cast. The two-hour film makes its debut on Sky Artlantic on Sunday, 1 June. It will also be available to stream on NOW, and is repeated on Sky Atlantic on Thursday, 5 and Saturday, 7 June. Succession fans mourning the end of Armstrong's hit series will welcome his return project - a film set in a world similar to the one the Roy family occupied that follows another group of obnoxious rich people. Billionaires Randall, Jeff and Venis head up to the mountains for a snowy weekend with super-rich tech entrepreneur Souper at his luxurious ranch. But when they turn on the news, they see that back home things are heating up as fake news spread on a social media platform owned by Venis has sparked riots that are threatening the world's economic stability. The friends have enough money and power at their disposal to effect change immediately, but like any megalomaniac worth their billions, they soon come to the conclusion that they'd much rather leverage a global takeover instead. Armstrong's sharp comedy dialogue and themes of gross excess have more than just echoes of Succession and the film is sure to be a must-watch for his fans. The Peep Show creator told Variety of his new project: "It's a little bit scary after a Succession type of thing that's well-regarded. I knew it was going to be a big thing for me to do the next thing. Maybe it'd be a good idea to run at it fast rather than stewing on it for five years on my second album." Unsurprisingly, Armstrong has attracted another big-name cast for Mountainhead. Playing ranch owner Souper is Jason Schwartzman, who's joined by Steve Carell as Randall, Ramy Youssef as Jeff, and Cory Michael Smith as Venis. Speaking to The Atlantic, Carell said of getting to grips with the pacy, tech-heavy script: "There was a lot of deciphering, a lot of looking up of phrases for all of us—taking notes and watching podcasts." Meanwhile, Smith described Mountainhead as "a cousin to Succession" in a chat with Vogue and added of working with Armstrong: "He gave us space to really play around and try things out, but what we all learned very quickly was that nothing we were going to do was better than what Jesse had written. His command of language breeds envy. It's inspiring. I'd like to think of myself as a smart, clever guy, but it's very clear that he's Ivy League and I'm just…not. So, I was at his behest with every note." Mountainhead debuts on Sky Atlantic at 9pm on Sunday, 1 June.

Sky's cheapest ever TV, Netflix and broadband deal is back
Sky has once again cut the price of its Essential TV and Full Fibre 300 broadband to a record low to rival Virgin Media and BT Sky has brought back a popular TV and broadband bundle that's seen prices drop to their 'lowest ever' in a surprise pay day deal. Just weeks after calling time on its Easter sale, Sky has once again reduced its Essential TV and Full Fibre 300 broadband bundle to £35 per month and is offering 300Mbps fibre broadband for the price of 150Mbps. Sky said 'our lowest ever price is back' as it announced the sale, which has also seen the Ultimate TV and Full Fibre 300 broadband bundle – which includes more than 35 extra channels – drop to £39. Sky's Full Fibre 300 usually costs £29 per month without any TV access, but the latest deals also provide access to more than 100 channels including Sky Atlantic, Sky Sports News, and major free-to-air channels like BBC, ITV and Channel 4. The combined bundles also include free Netflix and Discovery+ subscriptions, with the option to add Sky Cinema and Sky Sports for an extra £10 and £20 respectively. All of this is delivered via Sky Stream, the brand's new gadget that provides TV and streaming access through WiFi instead of a traditional satellite dish. Sky is now among the providers to introduce the new One Touch Switch scheme, which means customers don't have to contact their existing broadband provider to complete the switch. With this, Sky will do the necessary leg work on behalf of the customer, reports the Express. It's also worth noting that to secure the cheaper prices, you'll need to commit to a 24-month plan, while Sky states the price of its TV and broadband plans 'may change' during this period. This includes the annual price hike in April implemented by many firms each year. Earlier this year, Sky announced a 6.2% increase to its TV and broadband prices, so we may expect a similar rise in April 2026. Despite this, Sky stands out by giving customers the option to terminate their contract early should a price rise be announced. Sky's new round of deals puts it head to head with Virgin's Bigger Combo bundle, which offers more than 200 channels and 362Mbps fibre broadband for £34.99. Although this is a penny cheaper than Sky and around 60Mbps faster, Virgin does not offer Sky Atlantic or Netflix, which could be a deal-breaker for some. Another rival is BT and EE's Big Entertainment and Full Fibre 300 plan, which is on offer at £48.99 per month for six months but ends up costing more than £600 extra over the contract term once it reverts to the standard £63.99 rate. Sky customers have been posting their positive experiences of the brand on Trustpilot, where one glowing review said: "Sky Stream is a game changer. Switched a few weeks back and it's the best decision I've ever made. Installation takes care of itself, the remote even auto tunes itself to the TV. The best part is the ability to have a single charge for all your streaming subscriptions." However, this less-impressed customer said: "I wasn't happy with the service provided by Sky, phoned up to change my deal and was passed around like a parcel. Eventually, I got to speak to someone who knew what they were doing. I am happy my issue was finally resolved but took a lot of work." Another consumer said: "I've been with lots of companies to get my TV and internet but the best service I have received out of them all is Sky. We did change to other companies because of the price but always go back to Sky."

As a result of a major glitch that took place across Sky Q boxes, the technology firm is giving users a free film as an apology for the inconvenience. However, users only have until May 31 to make their choice. In the email, Sky said: "We're gifting you a Sky Store Buy & Keep movie — it's our way of saying thank you for bearing with us." Some of the movies available as part of the gift include Bullet Train, Jumanji: The Next Level, Les Misérables, Venom, Gladiator, Bridesmaids and The Equalizer. In order to get this film, Sky Q users need to go to the Sky Store from their TV homepage. From there, they should see a tile that says "Your Sky Store gift on us". Sky states: "Once downloaded, this is yours to keep forever."
