Sky Glass Gen 2 has launched with new features – but it's the same price as Gen 1
Three years ago, Sky took its first step towards a dish-free future, with Sky Glass, a streaming TV that runs over wifi, ditching the need for a satellite dish. While it was a masterstroke for the company, we always felt its specs were a little lacking. Now, the second-generation model is here, and its promising better picture quality, sound and a more refined design, fixing all the niggles we had with the first-generation TV. Surprisingly, it's launching at the same affordable price as its predecessor. Available now (it launched on 12 February), the second-generation Sky Glass TV comes in three different screen sizes (43in, 55in and 65in), and prices start at just £14 per month for the TV itself, with TV packages starting from £15. That means you'll pay just £29 per month altogether. Sky is also expected to launch a thinner version of the Sky Glass – called the Sky Glass Air – later this year. We've got all the details on the new Sky Glass TV below but, if you prefer picking your own TV from a manufacturer such as Samsung or LG, we still recommend getting the Sky Stream box, which is cheaper, at just £15 per month. The Sky Glass Gen 2 is Sky's latest streaming TV. Just like the original model, it works over your wifi connection, so you don't need to get someone to clamber up on the top of your roof to install a satellite dish or pay an installation fee to get an engineer to thread wires through your home. How does it differ to the first-generation Sky Glass, though? While it looks broadly the same – yes, that means it's still pretty chunky – it's a lot lighter. Sky has also tweaked the design, so the TV is easier to set up when you take it out of the box. It now just slots into the stand without the need for screws, and the new TV mount (sold separately) can tilt and swivel. You also have three colours to choose from – volcanic grey, Arctic silver and Atlantic blue – instead of five. The biggest improvements are in the screen and sound. The TV now has an upgraded 4K HDR Quantum Dot LED (QLED) display, offering better brightness, improved local dimming, and more dimming zones to enhance contrast and detail in darker scenes. Viewing angles have also been widened, making the picture clearer from different positions in the room. There's also a new Dolby Atmos sound system, featuring seven speakers, including new dedicated up-firing speakers for enhanced height effects and dual subwoofers for a better bass response. Gen 2 still runs Sky OS (formerly Entertainment OS) but there are new picture modes for specific content – entertainment, movies, music, auto, vivid, extra vivid and sport. We expected to see a price hike with all these upgrades but, thankfully, the Sky Glass gen 2 is the exact same price as the first-gen model. All the plans come with Sky Essentials, which includes Sky Atlantic, as well as Netflix with ads and a Discovery+ subscription. The 43in model starts from £29 per month, the 55in model starts from £34 per month and the 65in model starts from £39 per month. The cheapest contracts last 48 months.

Sky Glass announces "bolder" new improved TV, and you can buy it tomorrow
Sky has announced that two new Sky Glass TVs are on the way – and you'll be able to buy its "bolder" new upgrade of the flagship set from tomorrow. Sky Glass Gen 2 launches on Wednesday (February 12) via Sky's online shop, its retail stores, over the phone and online via Currys. Stock will also arrive in Currys retail stores soon. The company is promising its second-generation TV has "an even brighter picture and bolder sound" than its predecessor. Later in the year, a second product called Sky Glass Air will launch, which the company is billing as "the smarter TV for less". Explore Sky Glass packages The Gen 2 set will be available in three screen sizes – 43", 55" and 65" – and customers can choose from grey, silver or blue colour schemes, all of which have matching-coloured speakers. Pricing for Sky Glass Gen 2 plans will start from £14 per month for the TV set only, over 48 months. This matches the pricing of the first-generation TV on its own. However, the final monthly cost depends on the type of TV you choose and the programming packages you buy with it. For example, you could purchase a Sky Glass Gen 2 43"-inch set on a 48-month contract, with a 24-month subscription to Sky Essential TV, and that would cost you £29 per month. Programming add-ons such as Sky Cinema or Sky Sports subscriptions cost extra. Related: Sky Glass Gen 2 runs Sky's own operating system, and it features an improved sound system with seven speakers instead of six, and Dolby Atmos capabilities built in. Its screen has a 4K Quantum Dot display, plus enhancements to precision contrast and HDR capabilities which Sky says should offer improved picture quality and wider viewing angles when compared to the first-generation Glass TV. The Sky Glass picture modes have also been refreshed, with bespoke settings for sports, movies and music programming among the options customers can choose from. There's also an auto setting which selects the optimum picture mode for a particular programme. The Sky Glass Gen 2 set has three HDMI ports, including eARC support if you do want to use your own soundbar with it. It also has Apple AirPlay 2.0 and WiFi 6 support. The new design also features a stand that slots into the TV – and while Sky is selling its own telescopic wall mounts for an additional fee, the Gen 2 set will fit universal wall mounts, too. Sky hasn't yet announced how much the Sky Glass Air TV sets will cost, only saying pricing will be confirmed "later this year" and that it will be cheaper than the Sky Glass Gen 2 set. However, we do know some of the key features already. The Sky Glass Air TV will have a 4K Quantum Dot HDR screen and 2.0 stereo speakers with Dolby audio. Sky unveils second generation Sky Glass TV promising ‘better picture and sound'
Sky has unveiled the second generation of its Sky Glass TV, promising a 'brighter picture and more cinematic sound' on the new device. First announced in 2021, Sky Glass is the firm's own TV and the only one of its kind that does not require a Sky dish or box, as they are built into the TV and it streams all channels and content over WiFi. The media giant said the Sky Glass Gen 2 had a 4K resolution Quantum Dot display as well as an enhanced Dolby Atmos sound system comprised of seven speakers, including a built-in soundbar and dual subwoofer. Like the first generation device, it includes the firm's smart TV interface, now known as Sky OS, which can learn what viewers enjoy watching and highlight relevant content more quickly, as well as enable them to create curated playlists of shows and control the TV using their voice. The TV comes in three sizes – 43, 55, and 65 inches – and Sky confirmed it would be available to buy from Wednesday, starting from £14 a month. Sky also confirmed that a new, cheaper version of the device, called Sky Glass Air, would also be launched later this year. Fraser Stirling, global chief product officer for Sky and Comcast, said: 'We built Sky Glass as a brilliantly simple way for people to watch TV, making it easier to find the things they love from Sky and streaming apps.
