Sky offers free upgrades to Glass Air TVs but only until this week's deadline
Sky is giving away an upgrade to Sky Glass shoppers that saves more than £70, but the deadline to claim it is fast approaching. Sky is enticing Brits to upgrade their smart TVs by offering a free upgrade on its new Sky Glass device. For a limited time, anyone ordering the 43" Sky Glass Air will receive a free upgrade with 12 months of Ultra HD channels at no extra cost. Typically costing an extra £6 per month, this free bonus delivers a crisper, more vibrant and higher quality image, along with immersive Dolby Atmos sound, across selected Sky Entertainment, Sky Cinema and Sky Sports channels. The deal provides a £72 saving compared to the regular price, but it's only available for a short time, as customers must claim the deal by Wednesday, July 30, to benefit from the free boost. The Sky Glass Air was first launched in June as a budget-friendly and slimmer version of the Sky Glass Gen 2. For those unfamiliar with the Glass range, the device is Sky's own-brand smart TV that includes Sky channels and streaming apps built in, eliminating the need for a satellite dish or even a Sky box. Prices begin at £6 per month for the Sky Glass Air, less than half that of the £14 Gen 2. Despite its lower price tag, the Glass Air still features a 4K HDR Quantum Dot screen and Dolby Audio speaker system, with other notable features including hands-free voice control, intelligent and personalised recommendations, and a straightforward plug-in-and-play setup, reports the Express. It's important to note that the £6 monthly fee covers only the television itself and must be combined with a Sky TV and Netflix package. These start from £15 per month for the Essential TV bundle, which offers more than 100 channels, including Sky Atlantic, as well as Netflix and Discovery+ subscriptions. There's also the choice to add more than 35 additional channels, such as Sky Documentaries, Sky Comedy and National Geographic, with the £22 Ultimate TV bundle. Choosing this package along with the 43" Sky Glass Air results in a total monthly cost of £28, plus a one-off upfront charge of £20 to get everything set up. Buyers should also consider the duration of the plan; the Sky Glass Air element run for 48 months, while the TV and Netflix package is significantly shorter at 24 months. The TV is available in three colour options: Carbon Grey, Cotton White or Sea Green. However, there are numerous other alternatives for those who prefer to pay in full, including Amazon's 20% discount on the 43" Samsung Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV. This top-selling Samsung TV on the site has been marked down from £299 to £239 – a saving of £60. Meanwhile, Virgin Media's Summer of Sports sale has resulted in price reductions of up to £336 on its TV, Sky Sports and fibre broadband packages. The largest saving is on the Biggest Combo bundle, which includes eight Sky Sports channels, over 200 regular channels, Sky Cinema, Netflix, and 516Mbps broadband. However, for those who have chosen to stick with Sky Glass, there have been some glowing reviews on the Sky Community forum. One user said: "I can't fault it. It was very easy to assemble, and account syncing to my Glass downstairs was straightforward. "The 55" TV is still a heavy piece of equipment compared to the numerous Samsung TVs I've had. Picture settings on auto seem suffice at this stage and the sound initially is totally different from the Glass downstairs – the speakers are at the back so it just projects differently, not in a bad way I might add. Speech is clear and it's certainly loud enough." Another said: "This is a great TV that's perfect for the average TV viewer considering subscribing to Sky whilst seeking a good audio-visual experience at an affordable price. It's good as a standalone TV and works equally well for those who have already invested in a decent audio system." However, the same user also noted it may not be for everyone, adding: "It's perfectly suitable for casual gamers, although hardcore gamers would likely want to look elsewhere for a proper gaming TV to connect their gaming console to."

Sky is dishing out free TV channel upgrades, and here's how to watch it
Sky has just launched six new channels and all can be viewed for free. Tired of the same old content on your TV? There's some good news if you have Sky beamed into your living room, with the telly firm announcing that it has launched some brand new channels. The best part is, they won't cost a penny extra to watch. These so-called FAST (Free Ad-supported Streaming Television) channels include sports, documentaries and art, with a total of six new services now available to tune into. The boost has launched on devices including Sky Glass Gen 2, Sky Glass Air and Sky Stream boxes. Those with older Sky Q gadgets can also view the channels via Xumo Play app. Sky says that users should not need to update or retune their devices, with the update arriving automatically. If you have Sky installed and the boost sounds enticing, you'll find full details about what's available and where to find the channels below. Sky Sports Classics: This channel lets you delve into the Sky Sports Premier League archives with the likes of Premier League Icons and Premier League Legends. You'll find Sports Classics on channel 1001. Sky Sports Vault: This 2nd new sporting service offers a whole host of archive darts, EFL and boxing content including 30 Years of The PDC World Darts Championship and Fight Night. You'll find it Sports Vault on channel 1002. Sky Sports Stories: There's also a 3rd new channel dedicated to sports. Sky Sports Stories has a documentary for every fan - from EFL Rivalries to Her Huddle. You'll find Sports Stories on channel 1003. Pick Monkey Rescue: This one is for animal lovers. Pick Monkey Rescue features episodes of the Monkey Life series. You'll find Monkey Rescue on channel 1004. Emergency 24/7: As it says on the tin this channel is dedicated to emergencies with Highway Cops, Air Ambulance ER and Stop Search Seize, plus many more shows, Emergency 24/7 is packed full of drama. You'll find Emergency 24/7 on channel 1005. Sky Artist of The Year (channel 1006): Finally there's a channel for art aficionados, viewers can catch up on Sky's Portrait Artist of the Year and Landscape Artist of the Year. You'll find Artist of the Year on channel 1006. If you don't want to start pumping those numbers into your remote, don't forget that they can also be found via voice search on your remote. Just speak the channel name and number and you'll get instant access. It's not just Sky dishing out content for free. Virgin Media also recently confirmed the launch of two new free channels, which come packed with movies. If you have a Virgin TV 360, Stream or V6 box, you should have the new Virgin Media channels right now. They are British Screen Classics and wedotv movies, which can be found on channel 450 and 451 respectively. British Screen Classics shows films and TV shows from the libraries of ITV Studios and Studio Canal. wedotv movies is described as a 'contemporary film channel with a catalogue of over 500 movies across all genres.

For those who don't already know, they all do away with the need for a satellite dish and instead rely on the internet. There's no box either, it's all neatly built into the TV itself. You need a minimum broadband speed of 25mbps to have a smooth service. So how does Sky Glass Air differentiate from its older siblings? One of the biggest criticisms about the main Sky Glass TVs is their chunky size which is designed to pack in a mighty soundbar. Sky Glass Air does away with the soundbar to make the device more compact than before - and cheaper. How to Unlock New Free Sky Sports Channels on Your TV Today As The Sun's tech reviewer, I've got hands on with a number of TVs over the years and I write regularly about Sky. I used to have the first Sky Glass and currently have a Sky Glass Gen 2 TV, so I'm well placed to talk about the key changes and whether they're any good for you - and why some Sky Q viewers may finally be tempted to switch. That said, a much loved feature on Sky Q remains missing. Read on to find out more after testing Sky Glass Air at home this week. Sky Glass Air: Settings up 4 Setting up the mount is super easy too Credit: Jamie Harris / The Sun Sky made the set-up a lot easier on the Gen 2 and that has fortunately continued with the Air. You don't need any tools for the TV mount, it's just a tough metal slate with two large bolts. Twist the bolts into the slots and then place the TV on top of them, pushing down so it's firmly secured. Super duper easy. There's a power cable and remote - with batteries - in the box. All you need to do is power up, enter your Wi-Fi password and you'll be watching TV within five minutes. As an existing Sky account holder, I didn't even have to enter any login details, it already knew it was for me. Setting up couldn't be any easier. Sky Glass Air: Look and feel Sky Glass and Sky Glass Gen 2 are serious hunks of metal and quite heavy. The Sky Glass Air is lighter and has a slimmer frame. I'm testing the 43-inch version which comes in at 8.85kg without the stand - the Gen 2 equivalent weighs 14.7kg. While the Sky Glass Air has a slimmer frame it does bulk out around the back. The ports are all handily around the left side too making them much easier to reach compared to the Gen 2 where they're more centre back. The interface of Sky Glass Air runs on Sky OS, so it's exactly the same as what you see on any other Sky Glass device. It's by far my favourite TV interface around as it's the closest thing to having everything in one place within a slick, smooth and seamless design. Sky Glass Air: Features Sky OS provides access to all the apps you know and love. The Sky Playlist feature is the company's answer to recording - though unlike traditional recordings nothing is kept locally on a box or your TV. Instead, they're kept in the cloud. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage, which has divided some. The advantage is you're not restricted by storage space, so no need to go through the hassle of deleting shows. Instead, Sky will automatically link whatever you've added out to the relevant streaming platform or record it on the cloud for you to watch. The disadvantage is you have less control over the recordings - something Sky Q loyalists are always quick to mention. While infrequent, if there's a rights issue that means a certain show or movie can't be recorded it may not be available (this has happened to me previously with the Gen 2, but not in my time reviewing the Air). It also means you're at the mercy of your broadband service - if there's an outage, you don't have recordings on a box or TV as a back-up option. How to cast on Sky Casting to your Sky device is done with Apple AirPlay, meaning it only works with an iPhone, iPad, Mac or HomePod It's also important to add that AirPlay is only available on Sky Glass and Sky Stream. For it to work, your Sky device and your iPhone (or other Apple gadget) have to be on the same Wi-Fi network. If you're using an app like Netflix, you need to look for a casting icon which looks like a small TV Tap this and select your TV from the list. When using Apple AirPlay on your Sky TV for the first time, you'll need to enter a code that appears on your screen to confirm it's you using it. If you want to show photos or videos on your Sky Glass or Sky Stream device follow the instructions below: Go to the Photos app Select the photo or video you want to cast Tap the share icon in the bottom left of your screen (the box with an arrow pointing upward) Select AirPlay from the options Tap your Sky TV from the list Close the app on your phone at anytime to stop casting Sky Glass Air: Picture and sound The picture quality on the Sky Glass Air is great - but not the most beautiful I've seen as TVs go. Colours look vibrant and sharp, darks are darker, brights are brighter. And the sound seriously surprised me - I hardly noticed the lack of a soundbar at all But it's the sound I was most curious about with the absence of an integrated soundbar like the other Sky Glass TVs. And I was pleasantly surprised - in fact it started off quite loud on setting up, despite only having about 30% of the volume up. Watching Gladiator 2 and I felt every swish and clang of a sword. Sky Glass Air: Price The Sky Glass Air is the cheapest Sky Glass device yet starting at £6 per month. But that's only for the TV itself on a 48 month contract. To get Sky's channels you'll need to add a package on, which starts at £15 for the Sky Essential TV pack with Sky Atlantic, Netflix and Discovery+ included. So, for the TV hardware and Sky channels you're looking at at least £21 per month. As a monthly cost, that's cheaper than Sky Q which starts at £31 a month - and remember that doesn't come with a TV, it's just a box.

Sky Glass Air: Verdict By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun With a combined cost of at least £21 a month, Sky Glass Air is a tempting offering for anyone in the market for premium telly. And maybe even Sky Q customers. The TV itself is a great addition to the Sky Glass family, offering wonderful quality in a much more adaptable form. And the sound seriously surprised me - I hardly noticed the lack of a soundbar at all. Sky launch six new channels today as users urged to check TV guide
Here's how Sky users can access these six brand new channels for free. For Sky users who are getting tired of the same old channels, you are in for some good news today. The tech firm has confirmed that it has added six new channels to its TV guide, which will provide a bit of entertainment for everyone. With the new channels filled with a range of content, including art, documentaries and sports, shoppers will have something new to watch when they turn on their TV tonight. What's even better is that shoppers won't need to do anything to gain access to the channels. Sky users will be able to explore these new channels for no added cost and they should automatically upload onto your TV guide. This means customers won't need to go through the hassle of re-tuning their TVs. The new FAST (Free Ad-supported Streaming Television) channels will be available from today and can be accessed by customers in slightly different ways, reports the Express. For those who use a Sky broadband-powered gadget, such as Sky Glass Gen 2, Sky Glass Sir and Sky Stream, the new channels will seamlessly appear on your TV guide. However, Sky users who have an older satellite-powered Sky Q box will need to go through the Xumo Play app to find content from these channels. Below is a list of each of the new channels, as well as what content to expect from each of them.
