China boasts about 'drone mothership' but gets ridiculed over design flaw
The Jiu Tun mothership, which can fly for more than 12 hours, was first paraded at China's largest aviation event back in November and is expected to take to the skies next month China has released a chilling new " drone mothership" that can deploy more than 100 drones and missiles - but its design has been ridiculed by experts. The weapons aircraft can fly for a staggering 12 hours, has an 82-foot wingspan, and can launch 100 kamikaze UAVs in seconds. Beijing revealed the drone mothership is currently undergoing its final installation and testing after the fourth prototype had just completed its structural assembly. Dubbed Ji Tun, meaning Sky High, the aircraft is expected to take to the skies next month as Beijing looks to increase air defences. Despite being first paraded at China's largest aviation event back in November, its latest version has been ridiculed over its many design flaws. Although the aircraft can carry up to six tonnes of ammunition, surveillance technology, and boasts a staggering range of over 4,350 miles, experts believe it stands no chance against more advanced systems seen in the US, Europe, and other parts of Asia. 'I'm not a fighter pilot, but this is like trying to sneak into near-peer enemy airspace w/ a formation of KC-10s,' a retired US Air Force pilot wrote on X upon seeing the model for the Jiu Tian. 'It's not remotely survivable…a gigantic missile magnet. This is just classic propaganda' Another X user chimed in: 'The Jiutian SS-UAV is a giant prop piece for propaganda, nothing more. In any contested airspace[,] especially one guarded by an Integrated Air Defense System (IADS), this thing wouldn't make it past the outer ring.' A third person wrote: 'OK got it Big, Slow, and not Stealthy.' It comes as Donald Trump revealed a Golden Dome missile defence program that will put US weapons in space for the first time. Trump said the system, which costs an eye-watering $175billion, will be 'fully operational before the end of my term,' which ends in 2029, and have the capability of intercepting missiles 'even if they are launched from space.' Trump, seated next to a poster showing the continental US painted gold and with artistic depictions of missile interceptions, also announced that Gen. Michael Guetlein, who currently serves as the vice chief of space operations, will be responsible for overseeing Golden Dome's progress. Golden Dome is envisioned to include ground and space-based capabilities that are able to detect and stop missiles at all four major stages of a potential attack: detecting and destroying them before a launch, intercepting them in their earliest stage of flight, stopping them midcourse in the air, or halting them in the final minutes as they descend toward a target. The Congressional Budget Office estimated this month that just the space-based components of the Golden Dome could cost as much as $542 billion over the next 20 years. Trump has requested an initial $25 billion for the program in his proposed tax break bill now moving through Congress.

Kesari 2 Box Office Collection Day 10: Akshay Kumar's movie Kesari 2 continued to maintain a strong hold at the Indian box office as it enjoyed a good second weekend. Kesari 2, based on the life of top Indian barrister C Sankaran Nair, who fought against the British Raj to uncover the truth about the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, earned ₹ 19.35 crore on the second weekend, compared to ₹ 29.5 crore on the opening weekend. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the second weekend saw only an approximately 35% drop from the opening weekend, which is a solid hold. The boost in Kesari 2's earnings can be attributed to the BOGO (Buy One Get One free) push the historical drama movie received on Friday and good word-of-mouth. According to Sacnilk data, Kesari 2, which was released in theatres on April 18, collected ₹ 8.15 crore net on Sunday, Day 10. Its Sunday earnings were 13.99% higher than its Saturday earnings, ₹ 7.15 crore. On Friday, the movie earned ₹ 4.05 crore. With this, the movie's ten-day collection stood at ₹ 65.45 crore. 'The hugely positive word of mouth has kept Kesari 2 super steady in its collection after the opening weekend,' Sacnilk said, adding that it is a sign of its longevity that will likely keep it going despite the release of Ajay Devgn's Raid 2. According to Sacnilk, Kesari 2 has topped ₹ 100 crore gross collection at the worldwide box office on its second Sunday, becoming Akshay Kumar's second film after Sky High to do so this year. The Akshay Kumar movie grossed ₹ 93.50 crore worldwide through the second Saturday, Day 9, and on Sunday, it is looking to gross over ₹ 10 crore, which will take its total to over ₹ 100 crore in 10 days.

Springfield Public Schools finalizes purchase of property for new Pipkin Middle School
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Springfield Public Schools (SPS) has finalized its purchase of the property that will become the new Pipkin Middle School. According to a press release from SPS, the district closed on the 8.86 acre property previously owned by the General Council of the Assemblies of God on Jan. 21, 2025. The purchase now paves the way for construction of a new campus. 'We are pleased that we have achieved this important milestone and are positioned to move forward with building a new middle school for students in midtown Springfield,' said Dr. Grenita Lathan, superintendent of SPS. 'Our community was committed to keeping Pipkin as close to its current location as possible. Soon residents will start to see visible signs of progress.' The property is located a quarter of a mile from the current Pipkin campus, according to SPS, and is bordered by West Division Street on the north, West Lynn Street on the south and North Campbell Avenue on the east. The SPS Board of Education approved purchasing the property in March 2024 after a search for a parcel of land large enough to accommodate a modern middle school. Funds to purchase the property and build the new school were made possible by Proposition S, which voters authorized in April 2023. Nixa's SkyHigh fireworks show canceled for 2025 Prop S issued $220 million in general obligation bonds to fund 'critical school improvements prioritized by a citizen task force', according to SPS. Those improvements were identified to include safety and security upgrades at all school facilities, SPS says, as well as renovations for Pershing, storm shelters at Cowden, Holland, Mann, Pittman, Watkins and Wilder elementaries, and new construction for Reed Academy and Pipkin. The plan for the new Pipkin building is focused on giving students and teachers more classroom space and room to host activities outdoors. Dr. Travis Shaw, deputy superintendent of SPS, says it's also about addressing student safety while giving the community something to be proud of. 'We want to make sure that all of the safety aspects that we have established as being the criteria that all schools need to have, are there,' Shaw said. 'But it's also about really, we want kids to love walking into that building. We want teachers to love walking into that building because when we know we have that, that really just enhances the learning that can take place.' The current Pipkin facility opened in 1925, and SPS says it has the lowest condition score of any building in the district due to plumbing, electrical and other infrastructure challenges. Pipkin's current location also poses a student safety challenge, as students currently load and unload from buses and vehicles along Boonville Avenue. Shaw said construction for the new building is estimated at $53 million and includes everything from architectural and engineering costs to interior fixtures and furniture. Shaw said demolition is also estimated in that multi-million dollar price tag.
