Sky offers tempting £70 Sky Glass Air freebie - but it ends in hours

For those still utilising the older Sky Q platform, it might be time to consider an upgrade this week. Sky is currently enticing customers with a complimentary offer when purchasing its latest Glass Air TV. Shoppers who act before 30 July will gain free access to stunning Ultra HD 4K content - a feature that typically incurs an additional charge. For instance, those with a Q box under their television will see an extra £13 on their monthly bill for the privilege of viewing shows and films in breathtaking UHD. It's a big saving, and means users get an image that's four times denser with pixels than standard High Definition (HD). Shoppers will need to transition to the Sky Glass Air television, but even this comes with its own benefits, reports the Express. Starting from £6 per month, this broadband-powered screen offers a straightforward set-up, with no requirement for an engineer visit, and regular updates from Sky. Shoppers will also receive personalised recommendations for viewing and easy access to all the most popular streaming apps such as Disney+, Netflix and Apple TV+. Additional perks of Sky Glass include uninterrupted signals regardless of weather conditions, and unlimited storage with all recordings held in the cloud via Sky's Playlists feature. The device is available in three screen sizes (starting from 43-inch) and a variety of colours including Carbon Grey, Cotton White and Sea Green. The breakdown of Sky Glass Air costs: However, there are numerous other alternatives for those who prefer to pay in full, including Amazon's 20% discount on the 43" Samsung Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV. This top-selling Samsung TV on the site has been marked down from £299 to £239 – a saving of £60. Meanwhile, Virgin Media's Summer of Sports sale has resulted in price reductions of up to £336 on its TV, Sky Sports and fibre broadband packages. The largest saving is on the Biggest Combo bundle, which includes eight Sky Sports channels, over 200 regular channels, Sky Cinema, Netflix, and 516Mbps broadband. When it comes to the Sky Glass, there have been some glowing reviews on the Sky Community forum. One user said: "I can't fault it. It was very easy to assemble, and account syncing to my Glass downstairs was straightforward. "The 55" TV is still a heavy piece of equipment compared to the numerous Samsung TVs I've had. Picture settings on auto seem suffice at this stage and the sound initially is totally different from the Glass downstairs – the speakers are at the back so it just projects differently, not in a bad way I might add. Speech is clear and it's certainly loud enough." Another said: "This is a great TV that's perfect for the average TV viewer considering subscribing to Sky whilst seeking a good audio-visual experience at an affordable price. It's good as a standalone TV and works equally well for those who have already invested in a decent audio system." However, the same user also noted it may not be for everyone, adding: "It's perfectly suitable for casual gamers, although hardcore gamers would likely want to look elsewhere for a proper gaming TV to connect their gaming console to."

Top Tech: Sky dishes out free TV upgrades to Brits who beat this week's deadline

Sky is giving away a 12-month upgrade with its new Sky Glass Air TVs, but the deal end soon Brits considering upgrading their smart TV may want to head to Sky as the provider hands out free upgrades to its devices this week. Sky is currently giving away free Ultra HD access for a year to shoppers picking up one of its 43' Sky Glass Air TVs. This free add-on will boost the device's image to make it crisp and more vibrant when enjoying select Sky Entertainment, Sky Cinema and Sky Sports channels. Shoppers must act fast to claim the deal though as it's due to end on July 30. Doing so will save £72 compared to the usual price, as Sky's UHD add-on usually costs an extra £6 per month. For those unfamiliar with the Sky Glass line-up, this is the telecoms giant's alternative to satellite dishes and Sky Q boxes, which delivers Sky TV channels and streaming apps straight from the device through a broadband connection. The Sky Glass Air first hit the market in June as a budget-friendly and slimmer version of the new and improved Sky Glass Gen 2. Prices start at £6 per month for the Air, which is significantly less than the £14 cost of the Gen 2. Despite its cheaper price tag, the Glass Air still features a 4K HDR Quantum Dot screen and Dolby Audio speaker system, with other notable features including hands-free voice control, intelligent and personalised recommendations and a simple plug-in-and-play setup. The gadget also comes in a choice of three colours: Carbon Grey, Cotton White or Sea Green, reports the Express. It's worth noting that the £6 monthly price covers the TV itself and must be paired with a Sky TV and Netflix package. These now start at the £15 Essential TV bundle, bringing the total cost to £21 for the Sky Glass device, more than 100 TV channels, and subscriptions to Netflix and Discovery+. There's also the option to bag more than 35 extra channels like Sky Documentaries, Sky Comedy and National Geographic with the £22 Ultimate TV bundle, which Sky says is its 'most popular' TV package. Shoppers should note the length of the plan, as the Sky Glass Air comes on a 48-month deal alongside the 24-month TV and Netflix package. But there are plenty of other options for those preferring to buy outright, including Amazon's 20% discount on the 43' Samsung Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV. This is the best-selling Samsung TV on the site and has been reduced from £299 to £239 – a £60 discount. Elsewhere, Virgin Media's Summer of Sports sale has seen price cuts of up to £336 on its TV, Sky Sports and fibre broadband packages. The biggest saving is on the Biggest Combo bundle, which is packed with eight Sky Sports channels, more than 200 regular channels, Sky Cinema, Netflix and 516Mbps broadband. However, Sky Glass has won over many of its users, some of which have left glowing reviews on the Sky Community forum. Sky and ITV extend multi-year content and platform partnership

Sky and ITV today announced an extension of their long-standing partnership, which will see ITV's content and services remain seamlessly available across all Sky TV platforms in the UK. Building on decades of collaboration, the renewed agreement means Sky customers will continue to enjoy choice and flexibility across ITV's full catalogue of high-quality content, deeply integrated into Sky's innovative TV range. Sky Stream, Sky Glass and Sky Q viewers will retain access to the ITVX streaming service, as well as all of ITV's free-to-air linear channels, with the channels and ITV's on-demand content also available on the Sky Go app. Additionally, Sky Q customers will continue to enjoy a choice between on-demand catch-up content ingested directly into their set top boxes, alongside the ITVX app. Nick Herm, Group Chief Operating Officer, commented: 'This renewed partnership continues to deliver long-term value for both Sky and ITV, ensuring millions of viewers enjoy seamless access to ITV's content, however they prefer to watch. Whether it's live TV, streaming or on-demand straight from their box, we'll continue to bring our customers unmissable TV, all in one place.' Chris Kennedy, ITV Chief Operating Officer and Chief Finance Officer, said: "Our renewed agreement with Sky ensures that ITV's much-loved programmes continue to reach millions of viewers across the UK through Sky's platforms. This is a key part of our continued commitment to deliver unmissable content to audiences, wherever and however they choose to watch." The agreement means ITV content, such as Trigger Point, Code of Silence, The 1% Club, I'm A Me Out Here! and Love Island will continue to sit alongside award-winning Sky Originals like The Day of the Jackal, Gangs of London and Sweetpea, as well as Sky's unrivalled line up of live sport and programming from partners including Netflix, Apple TV, Disney+, Paramount+, Prime Video, BBC and Channel 4. Last month, Sky and ITV, alongside Channel 4, also announced their joint intent to launch a groundbreaking new advertising marketplace, which will offer SMEs access to premium on demand and streaming inventory across all three sales houses for the first time. The collaboration, which is set to launch in 2026, represents a major development in television advertising, enabling new-to-TV advertisers a direct, simple way to access premium video content from the three portfolios. The three broadcasters are also in discussions to simplify the purchase of addressable inventory for media agencies, which includes exploring the potential of a joint agency-facing solution, based on ITV's Planet V technology. Find your lost TV remote If you can't find your Sky Q remote, don't panic. Just press the Sky Q logo on the front of your TV box. It's actually a button that will trigger your TV remote's built-in ringer. You'll get 30 seconds of beeping to find where you've dropped it. Hint: it's probably under the sofa cushion. Search movies by quotes You might have already used voice search for controlling TV playback – but your remote's microphone has another clever trick. It turns out that you can say movie quotes into the remote and Sky will find the film for you. This is handy if you can't remember the name of a top movie or show. Here's a Save lost recordings Have you ever deleted something you'd recorded on Sky, only to regret it later? Or maybe someone in your family removed something without telling you – sparking a massive row. Don't panic: you can get them back. Just go to Recordings > Manage > Deleted and then simply hit Undelete on the item that you want to resurrect. If you do that, it'll return to your Recordings section as good as new. I tried Sky's new £6 a month TV that could finally win over Q box viewers – but popular feature is still missing

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) TELLY is still a favourite for many Brits and when it comes to premium TV most of us think of Sky. In a world of streaming with Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime and every other app it's harder than ever to get everything in one seamless place. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 4 Watching Gladiator 2 looked great on the new Sky Glass Air Credit: Jamie Harris / The Sun 4 The frame is slimmer than previous Sky Glass devices Credit: Jamie Harris / The Sun 4 And the set-up was super easy Credit: Jamie Harris / The Sun Sky came the closest yet with Sky Glass, which it launched in 2021. Since then, we've seen a Sky Glass Gen 2 arrive earlier this year. And now there's another new kid on the block - Sky Glass Air. For those who don't already know, they all do away with the need for a satellite dish and instead rely on the internet. There's no box either, it's all neatly built into the TV itself. You need a minimum broadband speed of 25mbps to have a smooth service. So how does Sky Glass Air differentiate from its older siblings? One of the biggest criticisms about the main Sky Glass TVs is their chunky size which is designed to pack in a mighty soundbar. Sky Glass Air does away with the soundbar to make the device more compact than before - and cheaper. How to Unlock New Free Sky Sports Channels on Your TV Today As The Sun's tech reviewer, I've got hands on with a number of TVs over the years and I write regularly about Sky. I used to have the first Sky Glass and currently have a Sky Glass Gen 2 TV, so I'm well placed to talk about the key changes and whether they're any good for you - and why some Sky Q viewers may finally be tempted to switch. That said, a much loved feature on Sky Q remains missing. Read on to find out more after testing Sky Glass Air at home this week. Sky Glass Air: Settings up 4 Setting up the mount is super easy too Credit: Jamie Harris / The Sun Sky made the set-up a lot easier on the Gen 2 and that has fortunately continued with the Air. You don't need any tools for the TV mount, it's just a tough metal slate with two large bolts. Twist the bolts into the slots and then place the TV on top of them, pushing down so it's firmly secured. Super duper easy. There's a power cable and remote - with batteries - in the box. All you need to do is power up, enter your Wi-Fi password and you'll be watching TV within five minutes. As an existing Sky account holder, I didn't even have to enter any login details, it already knew it was for me. Setting up couldn't be any easier. Sky Glass Air: Look and feel Sky Glass and Sky Glass Gen 2 are serious hunks of metal and quite heavy. The Sky Glass Air is lighter and has a slimmer frame. I'm testing the 43-inch version which comes in at 8.85kg without the stand - the Gen 2 equivalent weighs 14.7kg. While the Sky Glass Air has a slimmer frame it does bulk out around the back. The ports are all handily around the left side too making them much easier to reach compared to the Gen 2 where they're more centre back. The interface of Sky Glass Air runs on Sky OS, so it's exactly the same as what you see on any other Sky Glass device. It's by far my favourite TV interface around as it's the closest thing to having everything in one place within a slick, smooth and seamless design. Sky Glass Air: Features Sky OS provides access to all the apps you know and love. The Sky Playlist feature is the company's answer to recording - though unlike traditional recordings nothing is kept locally on a box or your TV. Instead, they're kept in the cloud. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage, which has divided some. The advantage is you're not restricted by storage space, so no need to go through the hassle of deleting shows. Instead, Sky will automatically link whatever you've added out to the relevant streaming platform or record it on the cloud for you to watch. The disadvantage is you have less control over the recordings - something Sky Q loyalists are always quick to mention. While infrequent, if there's a rights issue that means a certain show or movie can't be recorded it may not be available (this has happened to me previously with the Gen 2, but not in my time reviewing the Air). It also means you're at the mercy of your broadband service - if there's an outage, you don't have recordings on a box or TV as a back-up option. How to cast on Sky Casting to your Sky device is done with Apple AirPlay, meaning it only works with an iPhone, iPad, Mac or HomePod It's also important to add that AirPlay is only available on Sky Glass and Sky Stream. For it to work, your Sky device and your iPhone (or other Apple gadget) have to be on the same Wi-Fi network. If you're using an app like Netflix, you need to look for a casting icon which looks like a small TV Tap this and select your TV from the list. When using Apple AirPlay on your Sky TV for the first time, you'll need to enter a code that appears on your screen to confirm it's you using it. If you want to show photos or videos on your Sky Glass or Sky Stream device follow the instructions below: Go to the Photos app Select the photo or video you want to cast Tap the share icon in the bottom left of your screen (the box with an arrow pointing upward) Select AirPlay from the options Tap your Sky TV from the list Close the app on your phone at anytime to stop casting Sky Glass Air: Picture and sound The picture quality on the Sky Glass Air is great - but not the most beautiful I've seen as TVs go. Colours look vibrant and sharp, darks are darker, brights are brighter. And the sound seriously surprised me - I hardly noticed the lack of a soundbar at all But it's the sound I was most curious about with the absence of an integrated soundbar like the other Sky Glass TVs. And I was pleasantly surprised - in fact it started off quite loud on setting up, despite only having about 30% of the volume up. Watching Gladiator 2 and I felt every swish and clang of a sword. Sky Glass Air: Price The Sky Glass Air is the cheapest Sky Glass device yet starting at £6 per month. But that's only for the TV itself on a 48 month contract. To get Sky's channels you'll need to add a package on, which starts at £15 for the Sky Essential TV pack with Sky Atlantic, Netflix and Discovery+ included. So, for the TV hardware and Sky channels you're looking at at least £21 per month. As a monthly cost, that's cheaper than Sky Q which starts at £31 a month - and remember that doesn't come with a TV, it's just a box.
