Terry Bradshaw explodes into savage rant over prospect of Aaron Rodgers joining the Steelers

Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw has blasted the Steelers' pursuit of Aaron Rodgers, branding the ongoing saga 'a joke'. Rodgers remains a free agent more than three months after the Jets decided to find a new quarterback in the wake of two miserable seasons with the 41-year-old under center. Pittsburgh boss Mike Tomlin met with Rodgers back in March but the quarterback is still pondering his next move - even after the start of OTAs ahead of the 2025 season. Rodgers has also teased retirement amid turbulence in his private life but he was mocked by Bradshaw, who won four Super Bowls over 14 seasons as quarterback for the Steelers. 'That's a joke. That to me is just a joke,' Bradshaw told 103.7 The Buzz in Arkansas. 'What are you going to do? Bring him in for one year, are you kidding me? 'That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there.' The Steelers have let both Justin Fields (Jets) and Russell Wilson (Giants) leave since the end of the 2024 season, when they lost in the first round of the playoffs. Their current quarterback room includes Skylar Thompson, Mason Rudolph and rookie Will Howard, who recently led Ohio State to the national championship. Rodgers was nowhere to be seen on Tuesday when the Steelers arrived for their first day of organized team activities (OTAs) - the voluntary, non-contact practice sessions which are held before mandatory minicamps get underway. That prompted fury from FS1 host Joy Taylor, who asked: 'Why?! Why?! This is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Aaron Rodgers is not there on the first day of OTAs.'

Terry Bradshaw rips idea of Aaron Rodgers joining Steelers

May 28 - Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw isn't rooting for his old team to land Aaron Rodgers, the biggest-name free agent QB on the market. Rodgers and the Steelers reportedly have discussed a deal since the end of last season, but he remains on the market. "That's a joke. That to me is just a joke," Bradshaw said in a radio interview on 103.7 The Buzz in Little Rock, Ark. "What are you gonna do? Bring (Rodgers) in for one year, are you kidding me? That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there." The Steelers' current quarterback corps consists of Mason Rudolph (9-8-1 as an NFL starter), sixth-round rookie draft choice Will Howard and Skylar Thompson (1-2 as a starter; 138 career passing attempts). Last year, Pittsburgh used Russell Wilson (6-5 as a starter) and Justin Fields (4-2), who are now with the New York Giants and New York Jets, respectively. The Steelers' primary QB in 2022 and 2023 was Kenny Pickett, who produced 7-5 records as a starter in each of those seasons. Pittsburgh swapped him to the Philadelphia Eagles in March 2024. "I liked Kenny Pickett," Bradshaw said. "I liked him at (the University of Pittsburgh). I know him, I know what he's like. When they got him to (the Steelers), they didn't protect him, they didn't get him an offensive line. They wanted to run the football, but they didn't have an offensive line that could protect and they didn't have weapons. He had no wide receivers to speak of. "Then they throw a kid in there for two years, and you've got an offense that doesn't fit and doesn't work, and they can't run because their offensive line's not even good enough for a run-blocking team. Now, they're saying Kenny Pickett is a failure. He wasn't a failure, the Steelers were a failure." Rodgers, 41, was a four-time NFL Most Valuable Player across his 18-season run with Green Bay, and he led the Packers to the Super Bowl title after the 2010 season. He moved to the Jets in 2023 and sustained a season-ending Achilles injury early in the opener. Rodgers returned to go 5-12 as a starter for the Jets last year. --Field Level Media

4 Steelers veterans on the roster bubble ahead of minicamp

On June 10, the Pittsburgh Steelers will kick off mandatory minicamp and we expect plenty of position battles. Pittsburgh has multiple spots where key backups could lose their spots to rookies and recently added veterans. Here are the four veterans who need to stay sharp if they don't want to end up off the 53-man roster. QB Skylar Thompson The Steelers will bring four quarterbacks to training camp and if we assume Aaron Rodgers will end up being one of them, Will Howard bumps Thompson from the final 53-man roster. RB Cordarrelle Patterson We expected the Steelers to release Cordarrelle Patterson when they signed Kenneth Gainwell but now that Kaleb Johnson is on the team, along with veteran Trey Sermon, Patterson is going to struggle to find a spot on the depth chart. EDGE Jeremiah Moon The Steelers brought Moon back but his stay could just be for the Summer after the Steelers got a huge bargain in the fourth round with EDGE Jack Sawyer. WR Scotty Miller The Steelers might not have an elite group of receivers, but the addition of rookie Roc Taylor and veteran Robert Woods makes his road to the final roster steep. Drones, informers and apps: Iran intensifies surveillance on women to enforce hijab law

Like many women in Iran, Darya is used to feeling under surveillance. Yet in recent months, the 25-year-old finance analyst from northern Tehran says that she never knows who could be watching her every move. She says she has received messages from the police before warning her of suspected violations of the country's strict hijab laws, but last November she was sent an SMS message containing her car registration plate that stated the exact time and place that she had been recorded driving without her head properly covered. Next time it happened, the SMS warned, her car would be impounded. 'It was really unsettling,' she says. 'When you receive these messages you don't know who has reported you – and the police never seem to have proof of the violation.' After widespread outcry last year, the Iranian authorities said they would suspend enforcement of the new, strict, hijab laws, which impose draconian penalties – including fines and prison sentences – on women found in breach of the mandatory dress code. Yet women in Iran are reporting that state surveillance has been steadily increasing. Last week, the UN's fact-finding mission reported on Iran's increasing reliance on digital surveillance such as its Nazer mobile application, a state-backed reporting platform that allows citizens and police to report women for alleged violations. The app is accessible only via Iran's state-controlled National Information Network. Members of the public can apply to become 'hijab monitors' to get the app and begin filing reports, which are then passed to the police. According to the UN mission, the app has recently been expanded to allow users to upload the time, location and licence plate of a car in which a woman has been seen without a hijab. It can also now be used to report women for hijab violations on public transport, in taxis and even in ambulances. According to the UN report, aerial surveillance using drones has also been used at events such as the Tehran international book fair and on the island of Kish, a tourist destination, to identify women not complying with the hijab law. The government has also increased online monitoring, blocking women's Instagram accounts for non-compliance of hijab laws, and issuing warnings via text message. CCTV surveillance and facial-recognition technology has also been installed at universities. 'This 'digital repression' is not only stifling academic freedom but also causing increased psychological stress among students,' says a spokesperson for the Amirkabir Newsletter, an Iranian student media group. 'Not only does this app reinforce gender-based discrimination and empower a culture of fear, but its flaws also raise serious concerns about wrongful arrests and detentions.' Last July Arezoo Badri, a 31-year-old mother of two, was shot and paralysed when a police officer opened fire on her vehicle in Noor city, Mazandaran province, after her car was reportedly flagged for a hijab violation. Yet Darya, like many others, is resolute in her defiance. 'If you walk through the streets, you'll see that many of us have stopped wearing the hijab despite these intimidation tactics,' she says. 'The money they are wasting on this surveillance could actually help some people survive.'
