Dynamo sign Czech M Ondrej Lingr through '28
March 28 - The Houston Dynamo acquired midfielder Ondrej Lingr on a full transfer from SK Slavia Prague on Friday. The 26-year-old Czech Republic native is signed through June 2028 with club options through 2029. Lingr will occupy Designated Player and international roster slots with the Dynamo upon receipt of his international paperwork. "Ondrej is a goal scoring midfielder with experience playing at the highest levels of European club and international football," Dynamo president of soccer Pat Onstad said. "He will make us a more dangerous attacking team with his verticality and penalty box presence, and he matches the defensive intensity that we look for in all Dynamo players." Lingr has tallied 55 goals and 14 assists in 258 appearances with Czech clubs Karvina (2017-20) and Slavia Prague (2020-23, 2024-25) and the Dutch side Feyenoord (2023-24). He won three trophies with Slavia Prague (Czech First League in 2021, Czech Cup in 2021 and 2023) and won the 2024 KNVB Cup and Dutch Super Cup with Feyenoord.

Tomas Soucek, an early Moyes signing at West Ham, remains integral (and underappreciated)
Tomas Soucek is superstitious and touches the crossbar before every game. He savoured the moment at Goodison Park, perhaps mourning the loss of a ground where the locals will be pleased to see the back of him. Everton will leave their home of 133 years at the end of the season. Soucek scored the winner here in 2021 and a decisive late goal in 2024, and on Saturday the midfielder was five minutes away from reprising a similar outcome. Jake O'Brien's late equaliser in the 1-1 draw denied him. Advertisement Beneath the calm exterior of Soucek lies a midfielder keen to be crucial to West Ham's attack. When Graham Potter's side needed someone to make a difference, the Czech Republic international answered the call. The 30-year-old, whose contract expires in 2027, scored his seventh league goal of the season and is on track to register double figures in all competitions for the third time since 2020-21. Soucek and captain Jarrod Bowen were the first players David Moyes signed in January 2020 from Slavia Prague and Hull City respectively. The pair played key roles in Moyes overseeing a renaissance during his four-and-a-half year managerial spell. 'I've built bonds with the majority of them (the West Ham squad),' said Moyes. 'Tomas scored again at Goodison Park, which was a blow but it doesn't surprise me.' But while Bowen is deeply revered by the fanbase, conjecture over Soucek's importance to the team has not ebbed. He is not blessed with technical ability like Lucas Paqueta, nor the offensive wizardry of Bowen, but he is someone you want in battle when the chips are down. At times he is an easy target but has the mental toughness to turn impassioned jeers to cheers. Supporters in the away enclosure chorused, 'Soucek again, ole ole'. Who else would it have been to bail West Ham out of a tough situation? This precisely underlines why he remains pivotal to the team. He scored the equaliser against Brentford in September, and his goals set the tone in victories over Newcastle United in November and Wolverhampton Wanderers in December. 'Tomas has scored some crucial goals and today was another one of those,' Bowen told The Athletic. 'He's been here as long as me and what he does for the team probably goes a bit unnoticed. He's scored other goals this season at crucial times so he's been very important for us. I know Tomas' character, he's always working hard and producing those moments like today whether it was his attacking or defensive responsibilities.' Head coach Potter has juggled his midfield, trying to find a combination that works. Edson Alvarez, Guido Rodriguez, Carlos Soler, Andy Irving and James Ward-Prowse have all featured but it is Soucek who has put the oil back in West Ham's engine. He has been a constant throughout a period when the club transitioned from mid-table hopefuls to UEFA Conference League champions. He is never shy of commitment and seldom happier than when executing a well-timed run into the box. Advertisement Soucek was set to be replaced by Soler before scoring against Everton. The midfielder, who was named man of the match, will hope his side ends the season in strong fashion. West Ham have remaining fixtures against Wolves (a), Bournemouth (h), Liverpool (a), Southampton (h), Brighton & Hove Albion (a), Tottenham Hotspur (h), Manchester United (a), Nottingham Forest (h) and Ipswich Town (a). 'Between now until the end of the season, it's about putting in good performances because we can still end the season on a high,' said Bowen after the match. 'For us, it's about continuing to grow in each game. We're still learning under the new manager. It takes time especially when you come in halfway through a season. I try to be the best captain I can for my team-mates on and off the pitch. I have open conversations with the manager and I think our performances have improved.' Post-match, Moyes embraced his former players before heading to the away end. He applauded the fans who showed their appreciation by chanting, 'Champions of Europe'. In the tunnel, the squad caught up with Moyes and ex-first team coach Billy McKinlay who followed Moyes to Everton. There was laughter when Ward-Prowse arrived and McKinlay referred to him as 'Ralph'. But it was a sign of the camaraderie they shared under the previous regime. 'West Ham are a terrific team,'said Moyes. 'I know, I spent most of the money there to buy a lot of really, really good players. I've been through so many moments with those players — the big thing was playing in Europe — and West Ham supporters have been really, really good to me over the years and gave me a great send-off. I wanted to show my respect to them. They deserved to be acknowledged.'
