Is Sipho Mbule heading to Kaizer Chiefs? His agent sets the record straight

Mbule off to Chiefs? Midfielder Sipho Mbule has been heavily linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns. Photo: Phando Jikelo/Independent Newspapers Image: Phando Jikelo/Independent Newspapers Sipho Mbule is currently a free agent after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns, and speculation has been rife that midfielder could be on his way to Naturena to sign for Kaizer Chiefs. The 27-year-old parted ways with Sundowns following an unsuccessful loan spell at Sekhukhune United that was cut short due to disciplinary issues. According to reports, Mbule is alleged to have gone to training under the influence of alcohol. However, despite his issues off the field, Mbule remains a popular player among football supporters, with those who back Kaizer Chiefs desperate to see him in the famous black and gold jersey. Unfortunately, the players' agent, Mike Makaab, has decided to be a party pooper and pour cold water on speculation linking him with the Soweto giants. Get your news on the go, click here to join the IOL News WhatsApp channel. 'I don't know where the talks that Sipho Mbule is going to Kaizer Chiefs are coming from. All I can tell you is that the rumours are not true,' Makaab said, according to FARPost. 'As I said, there hasn't been any formal approach from any team about the services of Mbule. So we'll look at all the best possible options to get him a club.' Mbule, capped four times at international level, began his career with SuperSport United, where he thrived in the heart of midfield. After an impressive four years with Matsatsatsa, he secured a big move to cross-town rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. However, after struggling for regular game time at the perennial Betway Premiership champions, Mbule moved on loan to Sekhukhune in September last year. Former Sundowns captain Hlompo Kekana has cautioned clubs about signing the talented midfielder, who tends to struggle off the pitch. 'You have got to be very brave to sign Sipho now,' Kekana said on SABC Sport's Soccer Zone. 'But with the talent alone, you are guaranteed that you are going to enjoy, you are going to win football matches because he is talented like that. 'Outside football, as the coach, he is going to need some help,' Kekana said. IOL Sport

According to Sundowns legend Kekana, the 27-year-old will be a risk for any club, but his talent is undeniable. It is no secret that Amakhosi are in the market for a talented number eight, and who better than their former target Mbule, who has proven PSL and CAF Champions League? Orlando Pirates overshadow Kaizer Chiefs in latest Bafana squad

Orlando Pirates have 11 players in the latest preliminary Bafana Bafana squad. Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs can only boast three. Sipho Chaine, Deano van Rooyen, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Simphiwe Selepe, Thalente Mbatha, Evidence Makgopa, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Patrick Maswanganyi, Rele Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota are the 11 Sea Robbers stars in the group. Bruce Bvuma, Yusuf Maart and Mduduzi Shabalala are the Chiefs trio included. Check the whole squad out below: Hlompho Kekana is a huge fan of Makhehlene Makhaula's industry in midfield for the Sea Robbers. The 35-year-old, however, isn't in this latest Bafana squad. 'This is my Player for the Season [Makhehleni Makhaula],' said Kekana on SABC Sport's Soccer Zone. Orlando Pirates midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula vs Mamelodi Sundowns at the Loftus Versveld. Nigerian midfielder Kingsley Michael is a tempting prospect, while his compatriot Stanley Nwabali knows all about goalkeeping in the PSL. Rumours of a big-money move for Pyramids striker Fiston Mayele also refuse to die down. When is Sundowns vs Pyramids in the Caf Champions League final? Orlando Pirates Best XI: One BIG sale, two huge arrivals

The Orlando Pirates board must stand on business in the winter window to make the Sea Robbers next season's title favourites. The evergreen 35-year-old Makhehlene Makhaula is certainly still effective and good enough for at least another season at the top level. Pirates might invest in their midfield, but any new arrivals would need to work hard to dislodge the outstanding hard man in the centre of the park. This projected XI also presupposes that Pirates might accept a big-money offer for Patrick Maswanganyi if it arrives. That would see Relebohile Mofokeng more often utilised in the number 10 role. A return to action for the outstanding central defender Thabiso Sesane would also be a massive bonus. Letlapa headlines a list of names linked with Pirates The future is now for Pirates. Regarded by his teammates as a model professional and example, he took care of his body and was fit as a fiddle even at the ripe age of 36. His devotion to a healthy diet didn't do him any harm either. The retired midfield general remains popular with journalists, too, having always made himself available for calls and interviews. In the aftermath of Sundowns' tenth ABSA Premiership title win, a triumph that completed a fabled 'La Decima', Kekana was effusive when praising his teammates. Those men fought alongside him to snatch the title on the very final day. Kekana was truly a team-oriented man.
