Make sports a career, CM urges youth
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Monday said the students and youths can now think of making sports a career apart from getting employment in industries by availing various skill training imparted by the State government. Majhi said this while addressing the State-level 'Yuva Shakti Samabesh' (Youth Power Congregation) at Aska where he laid the foundation stone for various development projects valued at Rs 550 crore for Ganjam district. Describing Odisha as a State having endless possibilities, Majhi said his government has been giving much importance to sports and therefore spending a lot for developing sports infrastructure across the State. The State has been constructing stadiums in all 314 blocks of Odisha and for the purpose, Rs 4,124 crore has been earmarked to be spent in four years, he said. With facilities available in blocks and gram panchayat levels, the Chief Minister said the village youths can also get opportunities and exhibit their talent in sports. 'They can easily make sports as a career, earn name, fame along with money,' Majhi said, adding that apart from cricket, hockey and football, the State is also promoting Kabaddi and other games. Encouraging the youth, Majhi said that one should know his or her own talent and work for its development. He said of the 4.5 crore population of Odisha, around 1.70 crore people are in the age group of 15-35 years. 'When more than one and a half crore youth become successful, then Odisha will become the growth engine of India, developed as the best State in the country,' he said. Highlighting the industrialisation of the State, he said 13 lakh employment opportunities will be created when an investment of Rs 17 lakh crore is grounded in the State. The investment intents have come through Make In Odisha Conclave and the State government has not wasted a single moment to implement the proposals, the Chief Minister said. Majhi said his government, during one year, has already provided government jobs to 28,346 youths and committed to give jobs to 1.5 lakh youths in five years. The Chief Minister said the State has set a goal of becoming $500 billion economy by 2036 and $1.5 trillion economy by 2047. Therefore, the youths will have a key role in achieving this goal of Odisha, he said. On this occasion, Majhi laid the foundation stone for various development projects which include those for irrigation and road widening. He asked officials to prepare a revised detailed project report for the development of Maa Tara Tarini temple. The Chief Minister said the State will provide for a world-class industrial training institute at Polsara. Attacking the previous BJD regime, the Chief Minister said the BJP government, within one year, has already provided 11.25 reservations for the students belonging to the Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) category. 'The previous BJD government failed to give justice to SEBCs in 24 years, while we have done it in one year,' Majhi claimed. Steel and Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, Sports and Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj and others attended the programme.

No corrupt person is now safe in Odisha: Majhi
Bhubaneswar: Claiming that Odisha's maiden BJP government has already fulfilled 11 of the 21 promises made to the people by the party before the 2024 elections, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday asserted that his simplicity should not be considered as a 'weakness at all.' Addressing a press conference on the occasion of his government's first year in office on June 12, Majhi said, 'I hail from a tribal family and there is simplicity in me. However, nobody should construe it (simplicity) as my weakness.' The Chief Minister made the remark while replying to a question on his government's alleged silence on major corruption cases during the previous BJD government. These cases were mostly related to chit fund and mining scams. 'We have taken strong action against corruption. The arrest of an IAS officer on Monday proves our point. A chief engineer was also arrested on his retirement day on graft charges and sent to jail,' Majhi said, adding that some persons involved in big-time scams are also languishing in jails. He asserted that the Majhi government will always act on corruption. 'My government will complete a year in two days. We are elected for five years. Appropriate action will be taken against corrupt elements in due course of time,' Majhi said. Asserting that his government was committed to provide good governance to people, Majhi said no corrupt person is now safe in Odisha. 'If anyone indulges in corruption, s/he has to go to jail, there is no second option', Majhi announced. Replying to another question, Majhi said the government will implement 11.25 per cent reservation in technical education for Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) students from this year. The Chief Minister said his government's major achievement lies in breaking the artificial wall between the government and common people. 'Today, anyone can meet their Chief Minister and ministers without any hindrance. In the last one year, I have visited every district and met lakhs of people directly, listened to their problems, shared their joys and sorrows,' he said. Criticising the previous BJD government headed by Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister said his government took four major public welfare decisions, including providing financial assistance to farmers along with MSP on paddy in the first Cabinet meeting. 'One does not need 24 years to better lives of people, a lot can be done within 24 minutes. There should be willpower to do public service,' Majhi said, adding that his government strongly believes in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mantra of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas'. Targeting the previous BJD government for failing to provide safe drinking water to people during its 24 years of rule, Majhi said the BJP government has already started taking steps to give piped water to 90 per cent of the State's population by 2026. The State government also plans to provide 'Antyodaya Gruha' to 5 lakh people who did not feature under different surveys, he added. 'In one year, we have given about 28,000 State government jobs at various levels. This year, we will give another 40,000 jobs. There have been major improvements in the infrastructure of railways, national highways and air services,' he said. 'By 2036, Odisha will definitely be among the top five States in the country with a USD 500 billion economy,' Majhi added.

BJP to highlight double-engine govt success
Dhenkanal: The BJP has decided to reach out to every village and inform people about the successful works and achievements of 11-year-old Modi government and one-year-old Majhi government in Dhenkanal district. The decision was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of State BJP vice president Golak Mohapatra at district BJP office. The BJP workers, led by leaders and MLAs, will participate in the campaign from June 9 onwards. The BJP team will highlight India overtaking Japan to become the world's fourth-largest economy, development in sectors such as agriculture , IT, infrastructure, drinking water and power and also resounding success of Operation Sindoor. Similarly, the State government's decisions such as providing MSP of Rs 3,100 per quintal for paddy, launching an integrated health card of AB-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (G-JAY), reserving 11.25 per cent of seats for the students belonging to Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) in higher education and ushering in development through 'Utkarsh Odisha' will also be highlighted. The BJP will also seek feedback from people. District BJP president Rasa Bihari Behera said they will reach out to villages and wards to underline the success stories of double-engine government. Parjang MLA Bibhuti Bhusan Pradhan, Kamakshyanagar MLA Satrughan Jena, Dhenkanal Municipality Chairperson Jayanti Patra , Block chairman and senior leaders participated in the programme.

Students wishing to apply for admission to such institutions can get details from the official website at The extension comes after the state's Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) failed to declare the results of the Class 12 examinations in time for the college admission deadline. School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond has announced that the results will be declared within the next two days. A total of 3.91 lakh students appeared for the exams conducted by the CHSE this year. The decision also follows the government's decision to provide 11.25 per cent reservation to Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) students in undergraduate courses. However, eligible candidates are yet to get receive their certificates, according to news agency PTI. The Higher Education Department has advised students to obtain a valid caste certificate to avail of the reservation in time for the admission process.
