Audio review as Albion win on final day - and look ahead with optimism
Albion ended their season in terrific style – even if it did not keep the European door ajar. Our audio review from the side of buzzing Tottenham High Road looks back on a 4-1 win for the Seagulls over Spurs. We look to convey some of the atmosphere from a big occasion in North London. And there is a look at the eighth-place secured in the context of a season of transition. We also take a look at what lies ahead – including the Joao Pedro situation. And there is a nod to other sides who made this quite a sporting weekend. Europa League winners Tottenham were brought back down to earth. Why Milner was sent on late at Spurs - and was it goodbye? How four-goal Albion did it in style - and enjoyed their own party at Tottenham Hurzeler proud of his team as they finish it in style Dominic Solanke put Spurs ahead after 17 minutes to continue the feel-good factor after Wednesday's 1-0 win over Manchester United in Bilbao ended a 17-year wait for silverware. With uncertainty over the future of Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, the Australian would have been eager to end a horrid domestic campaign with one final victory, but Jack Hinshelwood struck twice in quick succession after the break for the visitors. It was followed by a late third by Matt O'Riley's penalty before Diego Gomez struck a superb fourth in stoppage time to help Brighton finish eighth, but that was not enough to secure European football.

Pick your Tottenham player of the season
We asked our Tottenham fan contributor for their four candidates for player of the season and you can now select your top one. Lucas Bergvall Bergvall has more than lived up to the promise he showed in pre-season. Not only has he excelled on and off the ball, he has never stopped striving for the win. When more seasoned professionals around him have struggled to lead the team, this young player has risen to the challenge. Advertisement Dejan Kulusevski Deki had a particularly strong start to the campaign and is integral to our pressing style and ball retention. Don't let his time out with injury shorten your memory - the Swede's statistics speak volumes as to his dominance in a Spurs shirt this season. Djed Spence A breath of fresh air and a much-needed injection of hope, Spence's performances this season have demonstrated what it means to play without fear. He has been a joy to watch as he took on the opposition with courage and creativity, driving us up the pitch at home and in Europe. Dominic Solanke The engine of our team, Solanke simply never gives up. Even when heads behind him in midfield have dropped, he has kept running, kept pressing, kept trying. Some will criticise the number of goals scored, but no-one should underestimate the crucial work Solanke has done off the ball for us this season. Advertisement Honourable mentions Brennan Johnson still receives a mixed reception from some of the Spurs faithful, but you can't argue with his impressive goal contributions this season – not only the number, but the significance of some of the goals too. As for Archie Gray, what an outstanding first season from him - and in an unfamiliar position. Thrown in at the deep end, at times he outperformed his more experienced peers. To dare is to do, indeed. England: Thomas Tuchel explains Dominic Solanke and Adam Wharton snubs for latest squad
Thomas Tuchel has explained why he left Dominic Solanke and Adam Wharton out of the England squad. Solanke and Wharton were omitted from Tuchel's 26-man squad when the England manager named it on Friday morning. England face Andorra in Barcelona in a World Cup qualifier on June 7, before hosting Senegal in a friendly at Nottingham Forest's City Ground on June 10. Solanke was on the bench for Tuchel's first two matches in charge against Albania and Latvia in March but was left out of the squad this time as Harry Kane, Ollie Watkins and the returning Ivan Toney were selected instead as the three strikers. In midfield, Crystal Palace's FA Cup winner Wharton was left out and instead named in the England Under-21 squad, with Tuchel intending for him to join Lee Carsley's squad for this summer's U21 Euros in Slovakia. I had a call with Solanke, who deserved to be with us, has won a major title with Tottenham and was a major player for them Thomas Tuchel 'We decided to nominate three No9s, three strikers, with Harry Kane, Ollie Watkins [and Ivan Toney],' Tuchel said of the striker situation. 'I had a call with Dom Solanke, of course, who deserved to be with us, has won a major title with Tottenham and was a major player for them. But he was in camp already. I have a clear picture of what Dom can bring to this group and what he did. 'Now is still the moment to see new players, get a feeling for them and see them within the group. And because Ollie and Ivan were both not with us [in March], that is basically the decision.' Wharton, whose only senior cap came in a pre-Euro 2024 friendly win over Bosnia and Herzegovina last June, also had his absence from the senior squad explained by the England head coach. 'We made Adam train with us in the last camp, when he was with the Under-21s,' Tuchel said. 'He trained with us and was very, very good. At the moment, he has a little injury problem: a concussion protocol still from the [FA Cup] final. 'Together with Tino Livramento, Jarell Quansah, Elliott Anderson and Liam Delap — all names that could play a role for us — a major tournament is coming up with the Under-21s, and the intention is that they play a major role in this tournament. 'It is important. I like it a lot that they have the chance to be leaders in this group, to be players Lee [Carsley] hopefully relies on and will rely on, and we will monitor this very, very closely. For these players, the intention is that they take the responsibility for the Under-21s. 'It is the last chance for most of them to be picked in the U21s. From September, they fight for a place in the national team and they fight against big, big players. I think they will embrace it, to now play a Euros with the U21s, and that's what we want for them: to take responsibility. This will play a big part in their development; I am absolutely convinced.'

How Tottenham and Man United rated: Acrobatic Van de Ven the hero
Tottenham Guglielmo Vicario 8 Made a match-winning save late on from Shaw, the Spurs keeper was one of Tottenham's heroes, also saving from Garnacho after United finally came alive late on. Pedro Porro 7 Whipped in a supply of corners and set pieces and was solid at the back in a strong Tottenham defence that did superbly to hold out. Cristian Romero 7 The Argentine hot head captained Spurs after Son was left on the bench and was his usual glowering self – especially in battles with opposite number Maguire. Micky van de Ven 9 Produced an heroic and acrobatic goalline clearance to deny Hojlund an equaliser and was outstanding in defence all night. Destiny Udogie 7 Produced a stunning drive all the way from the back before setting up a chance that Solanke wasted in the second half. Solid at the back, too. Rodrigo Bentancur 6 Tidy rather than outstanding, but he broke up play well and his clever run off the ball helped set up Tottenham's opener. He was disciplined throughout. Yves Bissouma 7 Quiet by his standards, his role was to break up play in midfield rather than deliver his trademark lung-busting runs through the middle. But it was a job very well done. Pape Sarr 7 A highly mobile performance, he popped up everywhere from midfield - and it was his whipped cross behind United's defence that led to Tottenham's opener. Brennan Johnson 7 Put Tottenham ahead from close range according to UEFA, even though it looked like an own goal, and that was enough for him to become a Spurs legend. Richarlison 7 A surprise choice ahead of Heung-min Son and he responded with a performance of energy and passion, in attack and defence, before making way for his captain. Dominic Solanke 6 Always in the thick of the battle but never really got the better of Maguire and lacked quality when he needed it. Subs used: Heung-min Son (for Richarlison, 66) 6 Had to defend rather than attack but almost set up Danso to score; Kevin Danso (for Johnson 79) 7 Was steady at the back and delivered one stunning headed clearance at the death Djed Spence (for Udogie 90) 6; Archie Gray (for Sarr 90) 6 Manchester United Andre Onana 6 You never know if he will be hero or villain but although the opening goal looked messy this time he wasn't to blame this time. Leny Yoro 6 Made some anxious touches in his own box but was calm when bringing the ball out of defence, but all his teammates too unambitious. Harry Maguire 7 The big defender was strong and influential at the back against Solanke and gave his all up front at the end. If only every United player had put in as much effort. Luke Shaw 6 A much-needed left foot in United's back three, he was tidy but in possession and almost scored at the death. Unwittingly played a role in Tottenham's opener. Noussar Mazraoui 5 Tried to get United going on the right by feeding Diallo but didn't have the kind of influence on the game you would expect. Subbed late on. Casemiro 5 Looked full of energy in the opening moments, making a string of tackles, but his influence on the game rapidly waned, and this was a poor performance. Bruno Fernandes 6 After scoring twice in the same stadium against Bilbao in the semi-final he had a deeper role to play this time and that was a mistake. Headed one effort wide. Patrick Dorgu 5 Struggled to make an impact on the left wing even though he was always available for a pass. Another who failed to deliver. Amad Diallo 6 Was a genuine threat on the right wing in the first half with quick feet and willingness to take players on. But waned badly in the second as Spurs got a grip on him. Mason Mount 6 Another player who started fast and faded fast. Recent form earned him a shock spot in the side and he couldn't take advantage. Taken off with 20 to go. Rasmus Hojlund 5 Had United's best chance but wasted it as van der Ven hooked his effort off the line. The Spurs man had his number all match. Hooked after 71 minutes. Subs used: Joshua Zirkzee (for Hojlund 71) 6 A fairytale return from injury but got himself booked. Alejandro Garnacho (for Mount 71) 6 Made a difference when he came on, including going close with a left-foot shot. Diogo Dalot (for Mazraoui 85) 5 Came on too late to make a difference Kobbie Mainoo (for Dorgu, 90) Referee: Felix Zwayer (Germany) 7 Strong performance with few mistakes
