Two regional students receive full-tuition scholarship to Bluefield University

BLUEFIELD, VA (WVNS) — Two students from the region were named the recipients of full-tuition awards to Bluefield University. According to a press release, Jeremy 'Joseph' Flanagan of Princeton, and Sophie Hall of Bluefield, Virginia, were presented with the Presidential Scholarship, which is given each year to two incoming freshman that show academic excellence, leadership, and character. A senior at Princeton Senior High School, Flanagan aims to seek a pre-medical degree at Bluefield University with the goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. He stated that he was drawn to the university's faith-filled atmosphere and the chance to pursue more advanced studies through the school's Master of Arts in Biomedical Sciences (MABS) program. McDowell County Schools emphasizing their summer camp to bridge the gap of learning loss The program was created to bolster students' preparation for medical school through a partnership with the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). Hall, a senior student at Bluefield High School, is set to pursue criminal justice. She stated that she looks forward to entering the school's family-oriented community and taking part in athletics. The Presidential Scholarship competition took place on February 8, 2025. Faculty at the university reviewed essays and materials, took part in interviews, and and reviewed candidates' academic resumes, the release stated. This scholarship is a chance for us to recognize some of the most talented, high-achieving students and provide them with a private Christian education at no cost.
