Pasona to open resort on Awaji Island

Major staffing agency Pasona Group will open an accommodation facility on Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture on Aug. 1 to offer agricultural experiences. The opening ceremony for Hatake no Resort Sansan Villa was held on Wednesday. The facility has 11 separate villas, each with a field where guests can participate in seasonal farming activities, such as sowing and harvesting. Made with natural materials, the buildings were designed by nine architects, including Sosuke Fujimoto, who designed the Grand Ring, the huge wooden structure that is a symbol of the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka. Pasona Group expects the resort, its first accommodation facility offering farming experiences, to attract 15,000 visitors by the end of fiscal 2028. The accommodation fees start from ¥121,000 for an overnight stay. "In the future, we will consider offering not only one-night stays, but also longer stays, including a monthlong option," a Pasona Group official said. "The concept is to allow people to experience agriculture such as harvesting fresh vegetables while staying comfortably," said Kosuke Tanaka, president of Pasona Agri-partners, the operator of the facility. Pasona Group has relocated some of its headquarters functions from Tokyo to Awaji Island, developing leisure, restaurant and other facilities there.

Osaka Expo roof wins Guinness record for biggest wooden structure

The grand roof at the venue for the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka, western Japan, was recognised as the world's largest wooden architectural structure by Guinness World Records. The Grand Ring, the symbol of the six-month-long global event starting April 13, has a roof area measuring over 61,000 square meters, according to the global authority on world records, reported Kyodo News. Sosuke Fujimoto, the roof's architect, said at the award ceremony he hoped the Expo symbol would send out a message about the importance of forming bonds in a world that has been increasingly divided lately. The architectural symbol was completed on February 27 to represent the expo philosophy of "Unity in Diversity," said the report. The 20-m-high structure with a circumference of 2km is made of approximately 27,000 cu m of timber, including Japanese cypress and cedar, as well as European red pines, it added.

Osaka Expo ring roof recognized as world's largest wooden structure

Osaka – The centerpiece of the 2025 Osaka Expo, the Grand Ring, was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's largest wooden structure on Tuesday. An award ceremony was held at the venue, Yumeshima, an artificial island, before the expo begins on April 13. The 60,000-square-meter ring-shaped roof has the largest building area on record for a wooden structure, according to Guinness World Records. "I hope that (the Grand Ring) will give a powerful message at the Expo that these diverse worlds can be connected," said Sosuke Fujimoto, the architect who designed the venue. The roof has a circumference of about 2 kilometers, a height of up to 20 meters and an outer diameter of 675 meters. It encloses pavilions of countries participating in the event, which centers on the philosophy of "unity in diversity." Meanwhile, the expo's construction costs have reached ¥34.4 billion. The wooden structure was completed in February and delivered to the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, which runs the upcoming event.
