Some celebrities become famous not just for their work in the cinema, but also for their lives. This actress from the '90s became famous for her movies in both Bollywood and South Indian films. While her career was successful, her love life was full of ups and downs. She was linked to several married men over the years, with her relationships often making headlines. The one name that comes right at the top is that of the legendary Indian cricketer, Sourav Ganguly. The duo was in a serious relationship in 2001, when the actor was already married to his wife, Dona Ganguly. The rumours of their relationship became so strong that shortly after, it was speculated that the duo had already gotten married secretly in a temple in Andhra Pradesh. Unfortunately, after a few years, the duo called it quits. We are talking about actress Nagma Arvind Morarji, who was seen in big movies like King Uncle, Kunwara, Baaghi, Ek Jind Ek Jaan, Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyo, Suhaag an d Lal Baadshah . After making a mark in Bollywood with some hit films, Nagma shifted her focus to South Indian cinema, where she quickly became one of the most famous leading actresses. Nagma was also involved with married actor Sharath Kumar, with rumours of their affair circulating widely. Later, while working in the Bhojpuri film industry, her name was reportedly also linked to Ravi Kishan. The two were seen together on several occasions and also worked in several films. However, they never publicly confirmed their relationship. Later, the actress was allegedly linked to Manoj Tiwari. While rumours of a romance between the two surfaced, they never confirmed or commented on the relationship. Despite all the media attention and heartbreaks, she never got married. In 2008, after a flourishing film career, Nagma made a bold move into politics, retiring from acting to focus on her new political journey. In 2015, she was appointed the general secretary of All India Mahila Congress. Today, Nagma is 50 years old and even in politics, she is in a low profile. Born to a Hindu father and Muslim mother, Nagma is a practising Christian. She was baptised to be a Christian in 2007. In a 2006 interview, she made a direct link between her family history and her political activism: 'My mom is Muslim and my dad is Hindu. We were brought up to respect all religions. She said, 'I personally experienced the Love of Jesus Christ from early on and His uniqueness and identifies herself as a Christian. Communal riots pained me. I wanted to do something. So I joined politics.'

Sourav Ganguly biopic in real trouble: Cinematographer Pratik Shah, accused of sexual misconduct, likely to exit

Storm brews around Sourav Ganguly's biopic as Cinematographer Pratik Shah is likely to be pulled out from Rajkummar Rao starrer amid sexual misconduct allegations, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 'The recce was on till recently, and Shah was in London for the same. Allegations against him surfaced just around the time he returned to India. The makers are likely to drop him from the project and will now naturally look for a replacement before beginning production,' THR cited a source as saying. The Dharma Productions, in a statement on Saturday, stated their zero-tolerance policy against such cases. 'At Dharma Productions, we have a zero tolerance policy against inappropriate behavior and sexual harassment towards any individual working with us in any capacity, and we treat sexual harassment cases very seriously," TOI quoted Karan Johar's production house Dharma Productions as saying. 'Mr. Pratik Shah was a freelancer on the project Homebound and was working on it for a limited period. His engagement with us has been completed. During this limited period, our internal committee for POSH didn't receive any complaints against him from any cast or crew on our film Homebound," it added.

Safety focus in adventure tourism norms

1 2 Bhubaneswar: After the recent boat capsize incident involving former cricketer Sourav Ganguly's elder brother and sister-in-law in Puri, the state govt is set to introduce comprehensive safety measures through its new Adventure Tourism Guidelines-2025. The guidelines, which were approved by chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi last week, will be notified next month. "Safety is our topmost priority. The new guidelines will ensure strict compliance with international safety standards for all water sports activities across the state," tourism secretary Balwant Singh told TOI. Despite having a 480-km long coastline and numerous water bodies, Odisha's water sports sector remains largely untapped, according to tourism industry sources. "Currently, we have fewer than 10 licensed operators in the entire state. The new framework aims to attract more investors while ensuring public safety," another official said. The incident at Puri has highlighted the need for stricter regulations. "We are making the National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS) certification mandatory for annual licence renewal. The new guidelines will introduce a multi-tier approval system. Before granting operational licences, we will conduct thorough feasibility studies of proposed locations and verify the deployment of trained personnel," Singh said. Sources said, water sports activities will be allowed in 7 major and 40 medium reservoirs, and 235 minor irrigation projects along with several rivers, Chilika lake and the sea. Tourism professionals welcomed the new guidelines, but expressed concerns about implementation. "Stricter safety measures are necessary. The govt should provide support for upgrading equipment and training staff," said Srimanta Kumar Dash, president of India-Japan Friendship Centre, an outfit involved in promotion of tourism activities in the state. The tourism department plans to establish a state-level safety team for regular inspections. "Our goal is to develop Odisha as a premier water sports destination while maintaining the highest safety standards. The new guidelines will supersede the existing Water Sports Guidelines-2018, marking a significant step toward modernising Odisha's adventure tourism sector," Singh said. Sabir Bux, a water sports and adventure tourism promoter in Odisha, said, "Before launching water sports in the open sea, we should look for smooth backwater launching or landing areas for safe activities. Govt should identify such locations. We lack professional and trained manpower. These areas should be addressed by the govt."

Close shave for Ganguly's relatives in Puri sea

Puri: Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly's elder brother Snehasish Ganguly and wife Arpita had a narrow escape while enjoying a speedboat ride in Puri sea, prompting the district administration to order an inquiry. Though the incident occurred on May 24 evening, it came to light on Monday. Puri District Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain said, 'I have ordered an inquiry to look into the circumstances leading to the mishap. If lapses are found with the operator in terms of safety protocols, action will be taken.' Official sources said Sky Drive Adventure and Water Sports, a private operator, was granted permission by Odisha Coastal Zone Management Authority to conduct water sports activities. Puri SP Vinit Agarwal said, 'Though the mishap occurred on Saturday afternoon, family members did not lodge any formal complaint at the nearby police station. After being informed, we contacted the family, and legal action will be taken if there are any lapses on the operator's part. The local Baliapanda police station has been asked to verify whether the incident occurred due to natural reasons or human error.' Meanwhile, a video footage aired by local television channels showed the boat being hit by a massive wave, losing balance and capsizing in the turbulent waters. 'We were saved by the grace of God. I am still in trauma. This should not happen, and water sports in the sea must be properly regulated. I will write to Puri SP and Odisha Chief Minister after returning to Kolkata,' Arpita said in a video. Recounting the ordeal, she said the boat was struck by a wave almost 10-storey high, which led to the vessel flipping over, throwing all passengers — including her and Snehasish — into the sea. 'Thankfully, prompt action of lifeguards saved our lives,' she added. Local police said lifeguards deployed on the beach rushed to the spot and rescued the tourists on board. They used rubber floats to ensure the tourists' safety. A visibly shaken Arpita blamed the mishap on the 'greed' of the adventure sports operators. She alleged that the boat was unstable, with only four passengers aboard a vessel designed for 10, making it unbalanced and ill-equipped to withstand the heavy tide. 'Due to less weight, the boat lost balance and could not encounter the huge wave. The sea was already very rough,' she said, adding that adventure activities need to be stopped because of strong currents in Puri sea. Arpita said, 'The operators assured us it was safe. But shortly after venturing out, a huge wave hit the boat and it capsized.' Demanding that the government should tighten regulations on water sports, Arpita said the authorities should consider banning such activities here. Locals claimed that the speedboat was operated by untrained staff working under a private adventure company. 'The crew lacked proper skills to handle high tides and the company ignored essential safety protocols mandated for such activities,' an eyewitness said. It was further alleged that the company was conducting water sports without requisite permission from the Puri district administration. Sources said the private operator had obtained a 'No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Wildlife Division, Puri, District Tourism Officer, Puri, and Puri Police. It was also granted permission to undertake sea sports activities from Odisha Coastal Zone Management Authority, sources said.
