Rangers plot another Sheffield Wednesday transfer raid as Russell Martin 'targets' keeper
Pierce Charles is the latest name to be linked after former Owls teammate Djeidi Gassama made the move to Ibrox Rangers are reportedly set to raid Sheffield Wednesday yet again, this time for a new goalkeeper. Russell Martin has already taken Djeidi Gassama from the Owls in a £2.2million deal. And now the wide man cold be reunited with former Hillsborough teammate Pierce Charles. The Northern Irish international keeper is on the Ibrox wanted list according to reports down south and is said to be keen on the move. Martin had warned that it was a position he was looking to recruit in, although a loan move for Brighton's Carl Rushworth won't be happening. Focus has now shifted to Charles, 19, as Martin looks to deepen his options between the sticks, having rotated between Liam Kelly and Jack Butland so far during pre-season. Charles has two years left in his Wednesday contract and made 13 appearance in total for the South Yorkshire club last season. However, given the club's well documented financial issues over the summer, they've had to shed a number of experienced players and Charles looks like being first choice for the 2025/26 campaign. He he admitted last month that there was nothing that could make him leave Wednesday this summer, so Rangers may have a job on their hands convincing him to make the move to Glasgow. 'I don't really pay any heed to it. If it comes round, it comes round,' he told the Belfast Telegraph. 'I'm so happy at Sheffield Wednesday right now. There's nothing that could make me leave at this point. I'm playing and I'm really happy there" Follow Record Sport on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond. Sickening moment racist releases RATS into a mosque - as he avoids jail despite doing it four times
A sickening racist who was caught releasing rats into a mosque has avoided jail, despite doing it four times. The CCTV footage shows Edmund Fowler letting a rat out of a cage onto the ground of the Grand Mosque in Sheffield at 9:32am on June 2. The 66-year-old is caught taking the cage with the rodent inside out of the boot of his black Audi before releasing it. A court heard Fowler, from the South Yorkshire city, drove to the place of worship four times between May and June and filmed himself doing it. During these visits, he was also seen shouting racist insults at worshippers going into the mosque. After he was arrested, he was subsequently charged with four counts of racially aggravated harassment, which he pleaded guilty to at an earlier hearing at the same court on June 27. Police were notified of his offences after they were called to the mosque following reports of a man stopping at the side of the road and releasing three rats from the boot of a vehicle. At the time, he was remanded to custody ahead of his sentencing hearing. Yesterday, at Sheffield Magistrates Court, he was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, and banned from going near a mosque for 18 months. He must also undertake 15 rehabilitation activity days and is banned from going to certain areas of the city. It still 'remains a mystery' why he committed the crimes. Fowler was also ordered to pay £239 in costs.

Former police worker must pay back £100,000
A former South Yorkshire Police worker who stole thousands of pounds from the force has been ordered to pay back a further £100,000. Jacqueline Fletcher, 55, of Boundary Walk in Rotherham, was jailed for two years eight months in 2018 for four counts of theft, and told to pay back £47,000. The order has since been reviewed, and a judge at Sheffield Crown Court said on 8 July that Fletcher must pay another £108,256. If she does not pay the total in three months she could be jailed again, police said. Fletcher worked in Attercliffe Police Station's property store and in 2013 a "large amount of cash" was seized during a police investigation, the force said. Fletcher said she counted and banked the money for the force but she actually banked £98,500 to her own account with £1,500 into the force account. She left the force in 2015. The theft came to light in summer 2017, police said, when a Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) investigation connected to the seized money requested the cash but it could not be found. An investigation was launched by the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit (YHROCU) and Fletcher was told to pay £47,000. Police said the original 2018 order had been reconsidered and Fletcher must now pay the extra sum calculated from assets acquired since the first confiscation order. If she fails to pay in three months she could face a 12-month prison sentence. Det Supt James Axe, the force's head of professional standards, said police employees should behave "professionally, honestly and with integrity" but "Fletcher showed none of these traits" and had "behaved disgracefully". He said the money recovered by YHROCU's "vital work" means more money is secured for community grants and police training so criminals cannot keep benefitting.
