Manslaughter charges over man's death in Southampton in 2023
Two men have been charged with manslaughter over a man's death in a city centre shortly before Christmas Cilliers, 48, died after an alleged altercation at the junction of Oxford Street and Bernard Street in Southampton at about 00:40 GMT on 22 father of one, of Osprey Gardens, Lee-on-the-Solent, was pronounced dead at the Anthony Carter, 62, of Rothbury Close, Totton, and Luke Carter, 37, of Lackford Avenue in the town are due to appear before Southampton magistrates on Monday. Man jailed for sexually assaulting girl under 10 in Southampton
A man has been jailed for sexually assaulting a girl who was under the age of Wills, 51, from Hopes Avenue in Dalmellington, East Ayrshire was sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison at Southampton Crown Court on had previously pleaded guilty to all eight counts of assaulting a girl under 13, which included four counts of assault by touching and one count of assault by and Isle of Wight Constabulary said Wills assaulted the girl on 20 July last year. Fan favourite Romeu visits Saints during Girona training camp
SAINTS favourite Oriol Romeu has been to visit his former teammates at the start of their pre-season training camp in Girona this week. Romeu, who is signed to Barcelona and spent last season on loan at Catalonia-based Girona, spent seven years at Saints between 2015 and 2022. The 33 year old defensive midfielder lives near Southampton's training camp base, meaning this is not a hint towards a potential return. In a video posted to Southampton's social media feed, Romeu was seen catching up with Adam Armstrong, Will Smallbone and Jack Stephens. I'll come and see you," he told his former clubmates. "Anytime you are free," Stephens responded to his former vice-captain before the video concludes. Romeu made 256 appearances for Saints after joining on a permanent transfer from fellow Premier League side Chelsea in 2015. He reached the EFL Cup final with Saints in 2016/17, losing 3-2 to Manchester United. He was voted Saints player of the season that year. Hythe Ferry: Hopes for return of suspended ferry
A ferry service which has been out of service for almost a year, could be back within months, its operator has Hythe Ferry, linking Southampton and the Waterside was suspended in August 2024 after damage was found to its pontoon and supporting a letter to Hythe Town Council, chief executive of owner Red Funnel said it was "committed to progressing the outstanding works and restoring the service".The council said there was "mounting frustration" at the absence of the ferry. Southampton Hospital Radio has launched a new mobile app. The volunteer-run station, which has been broadcasting for more than 70 years, will now be able to reach listeners beyond the hospital through the free app. Listeners can tune in from anywhere, whether at home, in the community, or on the go. Simon Carter, a presenter at Southampton Hospital Radio, said: "What I really love is that there's no need to log in - you just tap the app and you're instantly connected. Previously, the station was available mainly through bedside TV units, limiting its reach to hospital patients. The app now allows anyone to access live broadcasts, request songs and dedications, and view the full programme schedule. Users can also enjoy exclusive hospital podcasts, presenter blogs, and updates on both station and hospital news. Southampton Hospital Radio is a member of the National Hospital Broadcasting Association and has received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.
