South East drivers told of closures for charity bike ride

Drivers in the South East have been warned of road closures on Father's Day due to a charity bike ride. The British Heart Foundation's London to Brighton Bike Ride covers 54 miles (87km) from Clapham in south London, through parts of Surrey to Brighton's seafront on Sunday 15 June. The closures will mostly affect B roads going through Chipstead, Merstham, Nutfield and Burstow in Surrey and Turners Hill, Ardingly and Ditchling in East Sussex. The B2032 near Chipstead, London Road South near Merstham, Copthorne Common Road roundabout near Crawley Down, Westfield Road in Haywards Heath and Ditchling road in Brighton & Hove will remain open. Parts of the route will remain open for southbound vehicles only, mostly from Ardingly to Ditchling Common in Sussex. Most of the Surrey roads which are included on the ride's route will close 05:00 BST on Sunday and reopen by 16:00. In Sussex, expect closures from 07:00 until 17:00 BST for the most part with Northend Lane to Beacon Road remaining closed northbound until 19:00 Brighton, Coldean Lane to Ditchling Road as well as a section of Marine Parade will close from 07:00 until 21:00 BST. Meanwhile, Southern and Thameslink have warned customers not to bring non-folding bikes at stations between Brighton and Shoreham-by-Sea, Haywards Heath or Lewes all Sunday. The charity has said 14,000 cyclists are expected to take part in the event.
