Touch ‘n Go unveils RM27 LED card that lights up on tap — how well does it work?
KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — Touch 'n Go (TNG) has released yet another limited edition Enhanced TNG Card into the market. Officially called the Touch 'n Go LED Limited Edition Card – You Light Up My Life, the new release is slightly different than previous Enhanced TNG Cards. This is because the new card features an LED that would light up when you tap it on the payment terminal. This feature provides an additional interactive element to the card. Our experience with the new TNG LED Card We purchased the new TNG LED Card at TNG Hub in Bangsar South around 2 hours after the existence of the card was revealed on TNG's social media channels. We quickly figured out that the LED can be activated not only through TNG terminals but also other NFC terminals. Among such equipment that we have tried included credit card terminal and door entry system. The LED even lights up when we tap it on the BYD Dolphin's NFC key card reader which is located on the EV's side mirror. Priced at RM27 per piece, the Touch 'n Go LED Card can be obtained through TNG's official Shopee store. — SoyaCincau pic The LED lit up as well when we use the card's NFC feature to link it with the TNG eWallet app and top-up credit into it. However, our experience with iPhone is rather mixed though as the LED would only turn on randomly. Where to get the Touch 'n Go LED Card? Priced at RM27 per piece, the Touch 'n Go LED Card can be obtained through TNG's official Shopee store. Our quick check showed that stocks already run out at the moment although the listing did say that the card is being sold on Shopee as pre-order basis. You still have the option to purchase the card physically at TNG Hub Bangsar South (just like us) or at the Nu Sentral's outlet. When we purchased it earlier today, we were told that customers can purchase as many as they like but it is known whether the policy is still in place now that more and more people are already aware of the card's existence. — SoyaCincau

Perodua unveils EV with fastback design, slated for Q4 launch, confirms battery leasing and phased mass rollout
KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — Perodua today unveiled the latest update in its EV journey. For Malaysia Autoshow 2025, the national automaker has brought forward the latest prototype which President and CEO, Zainal Abidin Ahmad said that very close to the production version. Perodua EV is on schedule for Q4 release He also revealed that Perodua EV is currently in the final stage of homologation and pilot production is expected to take place within September to October. The company is confident that the EV will be ready to be launched by the end of 2025. The specs for now are generally the same as per what Perodua has revealed before. This includes battery from CATL with 50kWh-ish of capacity, 400km range, and 0-100km/h timing of under 7 seconds. It has also been mentioned that the EV takes around 8 hours to be fully charged via AC charging. As for DC charging, 30 minutes are enough to get the battery to go from 30 per cent to 80 per cent. Zainal did add that the upcoming Perodua EV can hit a top speed of 165km/h while it will also feature ADAS L2 capability and is designed to meet the 5-star A-NCAP classification . He also said that the EV features a fastback design that is skewed towards the lower B-segment. Perodua EV battery leasing is a go Zainal Abidin has also confirmed that the Perodua EV will indeed be offered through a battery leasing service. This will allow the company to offer the new EV for under RM80,000. Customers can also purchase the car by cash or bank loan and then sign up for the battery leasing separately. They can also choose to purchase both the EV and the battery outright although details regarding the purchase and leasing arrangements are still under discussion. Zainal Abidin has also confirmed that the Perodua EV will indeed be offered through a battery leasing service. — SoyaCincau pic However, the company will not be implementing battery swapping service at this juncture. That being said, Zainal pointed out that customers can have the high-voltage battery within the Perodua EV changed in just 30 minutes at the service centre if there is any issue with it. Zainal also pointed out that customers who purchase the battery outright have to pay for a new replacement battery themselves once the 8-year warranty is over, if needed. On the other hand, customers who signed for the leasing service will get the battery replacement for free as long as they retain the subscription. Perodua EV will be a mass production model Another interesting bits of information that Zainal has also revealed at Malaysia Autoshow today that Perodua has decided to turn the EV into a mass production model instead of its initial plan to produce it as a small-scale release. That being said, the initial production will still be quite low at 500 units per month but the company is planning to ramp it up – as many as 2,000 units per month. — SoyaCincau

Proton e.MAS 5 EV: Here's your first official look, set to launch in Q4 2025
KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — After months of rumour, Proton 5 is now official and will be launched in Q4 this year. Proton has officially revealed the new EV at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 in MAEPS Serdang. However, the official unveiling today did not reveal the car's full look. Instead, the 5 shown today is still camouflaged with a custom wrapping. As for its name, Proton said the number '5' in the 5 name signifies the EV's compact form factor as opposed as to its older and larger SUV sibling, the 7. At the same time, the national automaker is aiming the 5 towards the younger crowd while 7 is meant for families. Pro-Net has yet to announce the pricing for the 5. — SoyaCincau pic What are the Proton 5 specs? Unfortunately, the official specs of the EV are still a secret for the time being. Power system failure? BYD Atto 3 owner claims wheels locked on Cheras-Kajang highway without warning
KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — A BYD Atto 3 owner has recently shared on Facebook about his frightening experience during a trip from Melaka to Penang on 1st May. While making a stop at Kajang with his family for an open house, the vehicle suddenly performed an emergency braking without warning on the Cheras-Kajang expressway. Despite several attempts to restart the car, he couldn't move his vehicle and the screen displayed 'Power System Failure'. He added that several other vehicles nearly got into an accident as they swerved abruptly to avoid crashing into his car which was stalled on the fast lane. Fortunately, the highway patrol team had come to their rescue within 10 minutes and had placed cones around the car. ADVERTISEMENT Advertisement The insurance's towing service arrived an hour later but the EV can't be moved as the wheels were still locked despite being set to Neutral. As shown in the picture above, his Atto 3 had to be placed on wheel dollies before being loaded on the flatbed tow truck. By the time the vehicle arrived at BYD Glenmarie, it was already 7pm which was after the usual operating hours. He had to leave the car at the service centre and spend the night at a relative's house nearby. The next day, the owner claimed to face delays and excuses from the service centre. After insisting that the issue must be looked into due to safety concerns, they told him that there was an issue with the 12V battery and it will take several days for repairs and investigation. He added that his request for a courtesy car was denied as there were no spare vehicles available. Since there's no clear answer about the issue, he had to cancel his travel plans to his home town in Penang and head back to Melaka instead. In the Facebook post, he expressed frustration about the lack of responsibility and coordination between BYD Melaka, where he purchased the vehicle, and BYD Glenmarie which is currently looking into the issue. ADVERTISEMENT Advertisement Today (5th May), he was informed that the 12V battery had to be replaced because it has low voltage and the replacement costs RM418. The service centre also informed him that the low voltage battery had to be replaced first before they can continue their checks on the suddenly locking of the wheels issue. Despite being 10 months old, the 12V battery is already out of warranty as the EV has clocked over 20,000km of mileage. — SoyaCincau
