World's highest-paid actor has a $275 million deal, but no hit in 6 years; yet out-earns Tom Cruise, RDJ, Dwayne Johnson
It was in 2019, before the world was even introduced to the term 'COVID-19,' that Adam Sandler last tasted box office success. His film Uncut Gems made $50 million at the box office on a $19-million budget. Since then, the actor-comedian has largely relied on Netflix for his releases. His theatrical films have not succeeded since. Yet, in 2025, he is the world's highest-paid actor, with an astonishing $275-million deal from Netflix. The world's highest-paid actor earned $275 million from a single deal. How Adam Sandler became the world's highest-paid actor In 2020, Netflix signed Adam Sandler for a four-movie deal worth $275 million, the biggest single paycheck in the history of cinema for any actor. The platform did so because they calculated that viewers had watched the actor's films on Netflix for more than 120 billion minutes between 2015-19. This led to the actor appearing in Murder Mystery 2 and Spaceman over the next few years. His most recent release, Happy Gilmore 2, is already breaking Netflix viewing records. Variety reported that the film generated 46.7 million views in the US over its first weekend, the highest for any American film on Netflix. This success has made Adam Sandler the highest-paid actor in the world in 2023 and 2024 for two successive years. His $275-million paycheck makes sure that it stays that way for a while. Adam Sandler's latest Netflix film Happy Gilmore 2 is breaking viewership records. Who did Adam Sandler beat In 2023, when Adam Sandler became the world's highest-paid actor for the first time, he earned $97 million that year, out-earning Tom Cruise ($53 million), Dwayne Johnson ($50 million), and Margot Robbie ($78 million). Even if one takes into account the salaries that actors have earned for multiple projects, Adam Sandler rules the roost. For instance, Robert Downey Jr is reportedly earning $160 million for the two Avengers films in 2026 and 2027, just over half of what Sandler got from Netflix. Adam Sandler's upcoming work Happy Gilmore 2's success has solidified Netflix's faith in Adam Sandler, who will soon be seen in another Netflix original, Jay Kelly. The coming-of-age film also stars George Clooney and Laura Dern in the lead roles. It will have its world premiere in November in the main competition of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. This will be followed by a global release on Netflix on December 5.

had everyone worried. The former KISS guitarist announced on May 21 that he had to pull out of a pair of upcoming shows due to his health. "Hello everyone," he posted on social media. "I wanted to let you all know that I will sadly be unable to perform this weekend on Friday, May 23, at Brat Fest in Madison, Wisconsin, or Saturday, May 24, at the Arcada Theater in St. Charles, Illinois." "Although not serious, I am ill and don't feel that I am capable of the rigorous travel or performing up to my usual standards this weekend," he added. "I extend my deepest regrets and most sincere apologies for having to cancel. I thank you all for your understanding in the matter," wrote the "New York Groove" singer. "Take care of yourself! ‘Show stopper': Huge 7m-tall Boonji Spaceman unveiled at Perth's Stirling Gardens
The long-awaited Boonji Spaceman was officially unveiled out the front of the Perth council house this morning, where it will remain for the next year. The 'show stopper' Spaceman was unveiled to the tune of Around the world by Daft Punk at it's temporary home at Perth's Stirling gardens. The 7m-tall blue spaceman, titled Lightning, is covered in graffitied words that former Lord mayor Basil Zempilas said reflected the city. 'Words like ambitious, friendly, beautiful, City of light, are represented.' he said. Mr Zempilas said that the spaceman was 'hugely impressive' and will be a drawing point for people in Perth. 'People are going to come and have their photos, Instagram this, talk about Perth and push Perth on their own channels,' he said. City of Perth Deputy Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds said that the Spaceman pays homage to the Perth City of Light origin story. 'Perth became known as the City of Light following American astronaut John Glenn's historic triple orbit of Earth in 1962, during which Perth residents and businesses left on their lights, shone torches to the sky and lit lanterns to make the city visible in space,' he said. 'BOONJI Spaceman is a tribute to our unique story and will no doubt become another must-see piece in the City of Light,' Cr Reynolds said. Renowned contemporary artist Brendan Murphy, who's based in the United States, donated the sculpture to the city. 'Art is an essential, it's not a luxury its something that brings us together,' he said. 'It's not something that I normally do, I'm not in the business of giving my art away. 'However when Basil and I met I felt his passion for the city and the people of the city. 'It's one of the best things I've done in a long time.' Perth has now joined six other cities across the globe to own a personalised BOONJI sculpture with the others installed in New York, London, Washington D.C., Riyadh, Mallorca and Oslo. Although the artwork was donated, The City of Perth budgeted $250,000 for the transportation and installation of the Spaceman. The transportation process of the 1,365 kg carbon fibre and steel giant took 12 months and involved engineers to ensure a safe trip from Miami. Despite local outrage and on-going petitions, the installation still went ahead. Followers of the social media profile, 'savethekebab' shared their frustration and disappointment online. '$250k that could have supported a local artist to create something more relevant that is unique to us,' one follower said. The sculpture will live where the sculpture Ore Obelisk once stood, but was uninstalled in 2021 due to safety reasons. It is currently in city storage. 'It's standing where Ore Obelisk stood for 50 years - a work that actually meant something to this city.' another follower said. Mr Reynolds said that a notice of motion was put forward to the city to reassess what to do with the art pieces currently in storage. Mr Murphy will be displaying his other artworks at his 'blockbuster' Australian solo exhibition at the end of May at Gullotti Galleries in Cottesloe. The BOONJI Spaceman will stay at Stirling Gardens for 12 months and is anticipated to find its forever home in another location in the city, which is yet to be confirmed.

Where is Babylon Zoo now? How Spaceman singer, 55, swapped futuristic chart-toppers for the business world with his own film production company
Babylon Zoo dominated the charts with futuristic music and androgynous style back in the 90s - with chart-storming hit Spaceman staying at number one for five weeks. Far from famous for just his music, the band's frontman Jasbinder Singh Mann's looks also won the hearts of fans, with his long hair and silver space age skirts inspiring kooky followers around the world. The band were well know for being huge chart-toppers whose biggest hit held onto the Number One spot in the UK charts in 1996 for five solid weeks. The song was the fastest selling single the UK for over thirty years. Despite decades-old success, Jasbinder, also known as Jas Mann, has now swapped his edgy look for a smart businessman look and thick-rimmed spectacles. The 55-year-old songwriter, musician, singer, record and film producer has changed his life having turned his back on the music industry which made him a household name and now co-founded film production and distribution company Virgin India. The star had a steady rise to the top for the Dudley born musician, now aged 51, whose father is Punjabi Indian and his mother of Sioux descent. His most famous single Spaceman, from his album The Boy With The X-Ray Eyes, was featured on a Levi's advert in 1996, helping it to reach the top of the charts. Jas said at the time: 'I write about what it would feel like to be a person from another planet, rather than romanticizing science fiction.' His references to space and aliens came from feeling out of place, with him saying: 'I sometimes feel like a fly in a bowl of milk.' However, his second album King Kong Groover, released three years later, was not so well received. He said of one of the tracks, All The Money's Gone: 'It's an absolute p***-take. You would have to be a buffoon to throw away the money I earned.' Jas was determined to make it big one way or the other and also achieved success with Indie band The Sandkings. Then he swapped music for film in 2008 to become co-chairman and CEO of the multi-million dollar Indomina Group, an independent film studio. He also produced two instalments of the Cabin Fever franchise.
