Hansi Flick denies renewal agreement with Barcelona

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has denied reports of an agreement with the club on a contract renewal. The German coach, who is two points away from an outstanding domestic treble including the Spanish Supercup, is the flavour of the month in Catalonia. After Flick was seen having dinner with President Joan Laporta and agent Pini Zahavi on Sunday night, in the aftermath of the celebrations following El Clasico. Subsequently, a number of reports emerged about an agreement to extend his contract. Advertisement 'It's not the time to speak about it. I said it often before, I have one more year, I'm in no hurry. We had dinner with the president and had a great time, but it was not planned or anything. I'm really happy here, as I mentioned before, but it's not done yet. Nothing is done. We have to wait, and I can wait no problem.' Flick focused on what is to come Flick did entertain the idea that he may extend his deal in the summer though. The German coach did not want to hear about it before the end of the season though. 'The important thing first is to play these three games, and then we'll talk about everything. Now isn't the right time to think about this; there are three games before that. And today I told the team: we're here to win games and we must focus on that. We have to respect the opponent, the club, the fans… we don't have to think about other things. We have to be committed.' Message for Carlo Ancelotti Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was announced as the next Brazil coach on Monday, and Flick had only kind words for his counterpart. I wish him the best in his new role.' Advertisement Just as with his own future though, he was not to be drawn into transfer speculation and what Barcelona might do in the summer. 'I don't think now is the time to talk about these issues.' What agreement was being reported? Flick currently is under contract until 2026, having signed a two-year deal on his arrival in Catalonia. The Blaugrana supposedly want to add an extra year onto that deal, taking the agreement until 2027. It has been noted that Flick is unlikely to continue in the Barcelona job long-term, and not beyond the 2026-27 season.

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe not guaranteed to start Copa del Rey final

While much of the talk about the game has departed from football, after Real Madrid confirmed that they would be present against Barcelona for the Copa del Rey final, Carlo Ancelotti must plot a way past Barcelona. There are doubts over the Real Madrid line-up, starting with Kylian Mbappe. On Friday it was reported that Ferland Mendy would be given the starting berth at left-back, leaving Carlo Ancelotti with one main doubt over his line-up. That is whether to use the 4-4-2 formation he admitted that he favoured earlier in the week, and whether that includes Rodrygo Goes, who looks the most likely to be sacrificed if Ancelotti does want to stack his midfield. However as per Diario AS and MD amongst others, Rodrygo may have a spot in the line-up anyway. Mbappe has been nursing an ankle injury since last week against Arsenal, and while he returned to training on Tuesday, is not yet fully recovered. Most had expected him to be ready to go for the final this Saturday night, as is the case with Mendy, but Mbappe is still feeling pain in his ankle, and will test it out before the match before a decision is made. Image via Angel Martinez / Getty Images If Mbappe does not start, then Rodrygo will be in his place, alongside Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham in a 4-4-2. Ancelotti is intending on using him though. Should he miss out, then it would rob Los Blancos of their top goalscorer this season, and their primary threat behind Barcelona's high line. Although Mbappe lacked the finishing touch in the first Clasico against Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu, the French forward was their best performer in the Spanish Supercup final in Saudi Arabia. In their second game, he scored and was denied only by multiple strong saves from Inaki Pena from adding to his tally.

‘In another country, I'd have a statue' – Gerard Pique on the verge of tears during Supercup trial

Former Barcelona and Spain star Gerard Pique today testified in court as part of the trial investigating the tender process regarding the Spanish Supercup. Pique's Kosmos company brokered the initial deal to take the Spanish Supercup to Saudi Arabia with the Middle Eastern country and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Pique stands accused of fraud and corruption between businesses for his role in the deal, with Kosmos taking comissions of upwards of €10m over the contracts, €1.6m of which was paid to him this year. The Catalan star has defended his innocence in the matter, as has ex-RFEF President Luis Rubiales, who stands accused of the same charges. According to Relevo, Pique defended himself saying that the fact he was a Barcelona player at the time when the deal was done had no influence on the comissions that he earned from the deal. Sport say that he did admit to the fact that he called on Rubiales' for his help in receiving those comissions after Saudi Arabia did not pay initially. Their report assures that Pique was on the verge of tears during his testimony, and specifically requested to make a statement to the court. In a trembling voice, Pique explained that the case was doing 'enormous damage' to him and his reputation, and that he had secured the best contract possible for the RFEF. He also claimed that he did not deserve said damage, and that 'in another country, I would have a statue.'
