'Speedo Summer' is here and the lads are getting their legs out

Whatever you call them, tiny swimwear for men is big business this summer, with searches up 41% in the UK. GQ has declared 2025 the year of 'Speedo summer,' while retailers are pushing short-shorts as the halfway house for men ready to dip their toes (or thighs) in the trend. 'They're designed to be noticed,' men's fashion stylist Phill Tarling tells Metro. 'They're not something to wear if you're a shrinking violet.' Though the Speedo style is synonymous with the brand, Nike, Reebok and Adidas all have versions to wear by the pool this summer, as do the likes of Roberto Cavalli and Moschino. They can thank Dolce & Gabbana and Theo James's barely-there briefs for contributing to the resurgence. Meanwhile, men's shorts designed for wearing out and about are getting shorter too, thanks to celebs like Harry Styles and Paul Mescal rocking a three-inch inseam. But Phil argues there's more to it than that, with the current trend a potential sign that straight men are becoming more fluid around style and perceptions of sexuality. 'For years, short shorts and Speedos were associated with the gay community,' he says. 'It's not so gay anymore to wear short shorts. It's metro, it's hetero, it's any sexuality. Men embrace Speedos because they can.' Our European counterparts have long embraced a thigh flash, with public swimming pools in France require men to wear tight-fitting trunks for hygiene reasons. You won't catch many long shorts in Australia, the birthplace of the Speedo, and warm countries including Spain, Portugal and Italy favour itty bitty boxers, too. So, with climate change causing record temperatures, it makes sense for the UK to follow suit. Short-shorts are particularly popular among Gen Z, says Phil, because they 'have their own rules on how they live' and aren't afraid to buck longstanding traditions ('my daughters' boyfriends all wear short shorts with Crocs and socks – it's a thing I don't understand!). He also thinks older guys are 'more acutely aware of their bodies now more than ever', so flesh-flashing fashion has prospered among those wanting to show off fitness gains. On the flip side though, stylist Nick Hem does point out that we don't often see short-shorts and speedos modelled by diverse body types. 'We're seeing some advertising with a broader range of body types – I've really noticed that with women – but with men's stuff, it's very athletic, going back to that old David Gandy era,' he tells Metro. Nick urges men to buy your speedos from a reputable brand, to ensure you aren't left with undies that turn transparent once you're in the water. 'We also need to talk about grooming,' he laughs. 'Without dictating it to people, I think that you've got to try and ensure that you keep a tidy appearance. Speedos always look better when…how do I put this…when things are neat.' More Trending Speedos can be really 'fun and playful,' so go to town with the huge variety of prints on offer. When it comes to short shorts, Phil recommends buying a chino material in the classic male shades, navy or beige, if you're feeling tentative. You could even try denim and turn them up to trial a shorter-short without splashing the cash. The golden rule? Make sure you feel good before you walk out the door. 'If you're on the beach, you've got to be able to walk with your head high and with confidence in your step,' says Nick. 'That's how you have to rock Speedos.' Jason Kelce talks weight loss journey on 'New Heights' podcast: 'I'm about 270 right now'

Jason Kelce talks weight loss journey on 'New Heights' podcast: 'I'm about 270 right now' Show Caption Hide Caption Five NFL games we can't wait to watch in the 2025 season The NFL schedule for the 2025-2026 season has been released. Here are a few games on our must-watch list. Jason Kelce doesn't lose much anymore. The six-time All-Pro center for the Philadelphia Eagles is a Super Bowl champion who played 13 seasons in the NFL. He's been part of plenty of wins. He's one of the big reasons the "Tush Push" is a thing in football. He's one-half of one of the most famous brother duos in the world right now. And while Kelce has been stacking wins in his post-playing days as a talk show host, game analyst and podcaster, the one thing he has lost is weight. During his "New Heights" podcast on May 14, Kelce spoke about his weight loss journey now that he's retired. "I'm about 270 right now, I think,' Kelce said, prompting his brother, Travis Kelce, to joke that he could play tight end. 'Can't," Kelce replied. "No, My ankles and knees and back won't let me. It's getting bad. I don't know if it's the moment you retire mentally, your body retires, too, physically. Because I'm trying to lift weights. I keep straining muscles.' The now-ESPN analyst spoke on the additional struggles in retirement, adding that his ankle is now inflamed after playing golf which hinders him from doing other workouts. Kelce was listed at 295 pounds in 2023, which was his final season in the NFL. He officially retired in March 2024. During a "New Heights" episode on March 26, Kelce said former Eagles defensive lineman Beau Allen challenged him to a weight loss competition. The goal was to see who could lose the most fat while gaining muscle in three months. At the time, Kelce was 276.6 pounds. He noted that 21% of his body was fat after getting his scan results. 'Dude, this is what you do," Kelce said of the competition. "When you retire, you have to do stupid competitions like this to keep your sanity." Kelce told GQ in a June 2024 interview that he didn't want to lose too much weight, adding that his initial weight loss has him already feeling better and capable of playing with his children. "I don't want to get too small," Kelce said. "I think a lot of guys, especially offensive linemen, they lose too much weight, and then they look like bobbleheads because their neck gets so small, but their head stays the same size. So for me, I feel like for some reason, 250 to 260 feels like I'll be still big and be happy with the way I look without having a six-pack." There is still plenty of time left in the competition for Kelce and Allen, with the loser having to wear a Speedo to the Eagles' Ocean Drive event for their autism foundation. In other words, there will be two losers in this race. It remains to be seen if Kelce loses weight or his dignity.

Its revenue from operations stood at ₹ 1,098 crore in the March 2025 quarter, up nearly 11% YoY over ₹ 992 crore revenue posted in the March 2024 quarter, driven by increasing preference for casual wear, fitness awareness and shifting lifestyle trends that have boosted demand for athleisure wear.
