We won the Scottish Junior Cup, now we have a women's football team

The club, which was founded in 1956, launched its women's side back in January after "significant interest" from locals. Run by Alexandria Bell, who previously coached youth teams at the club, and Crystal Clayton, a board member and player, the group recently took part in its first-ever game, taking on St Mirren FC [Charitable Foundation] at the Johnstone Hub. While the fixture ended in a 4-1 defeat, Crystal explained the "importance" of the match. She said: "We wanted to make sure everyone got to know each other and were comfortable with the rules, given a few people were getting involved in the sport for the first time, before playing games. "The first friendly was an amazing experience, having been training with the team since March and seeing how far everyone has came in such a short period of time. "The team is for over 18's and we do not have a cap on age and operate on a free trial basis. "It is open to everyone and if people want to even just come along and train then that is completely fine. "We are all on the same page and want to keep women's football in the public eye." With the men's team recently ending their 57-year wait for a Scottish Junior Cup win, Alexandria feels it is the perfect time to capitalise on the goodwill that currently surrounds the club. The 33-year-old said: "I am super excited for this project. I felt very lucky when the the club asked me to come in and run the team. "Johnstone Burgh is a great club and has a deep history, which hopefully the women's team can add to. "I genuinely believe we can go far. We have a great bunch of girls who show up with a great attitude and an eagerness to learn every week. "Hopefully, the town gets behind us and [dreaming big] we can get all the way up to the Scottish Women's Premier League. "Growing up, we didn't have many female role models to look up to within the game and didn't have the opportunities to play unless it was with the boys in the park. "Now, women's and girls' football is growing rapidly and the more teams that are available for girls to watch, support and play with, the more we can keep inspiring the next generation and keep women's football in the spotlight." Several of the players also explained what encouraged them to join the team. Phoebe O'Neill, 24, said: "I saw the team was looking for players through a post on Facebook. "At the time, I was working full time in an office job and felt unhappy with how inactive I'd become. "I hadn't played football since I was around 13, and I was quite nervous about getting back into it as an adult, but I'm so glad that I did." Megan Eynon,18, said: "I wanted to try something new while pushing myself out of my comfort zone and thought football would be the best choice due to already being interested in it. "I also wanted to meet new people and have a way to exercise/keep busy while doing something I liked." Taylor Fox, 21, said: "I've played football my whole life and I come from a football oriented family as my papa was a professional player for Motherwell and Scotland. "I got involved in football not only to carry on his legacy but because it is a sport that I have genuinely fallen in love with. "I found Johnstone Burgh online and over the short amount of time I have played for the team I have felt completely at home and that is the feeling that I've been looking for." CJ Magson, 35, added: "I love playing every minute whether it's a game or just training. "I just love kicking a ball around."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day film adds 8 Glasgow road closures

Production for the next instalment in the Spider-Man franchise will shut down a number of streets in the city centre. Spider-Man 4, officially titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is set for a July 2026 release. Cameras are set to begin rolling in Glasgow on August 1, and a full list of the roads which will be closed to accommodate filming was released earlier this month. The long-anticipated movie will be helmed by Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton, with reports suggesting that Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink has been cast opposite Holland. Tom Holland will star as Spider-Man again (Image: Zac Goodwin/PA) READ MORE: More details as 'Spider-Man 4' filming to shut Glasgow roads Plot details remain under wraps, but long-time Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal, while appearing on Deadline's Behind the Lens podcast in December last year, teased what we can expect from the story. She said: 'We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker [in No Way Home], and that he was going to focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard.' Tom Holland revealed that Spider-Man 4 will begin filming in the summer of 2025 during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon back in October last year. Spider-Man and The Punisher will come together in the next Tom Holland film, confirms Marvel's Kevin Feige

These sure are exciting times for fans of the superhero genre, with James Gunn's Superman rewriting iconic character traits and Marvel's Fantastic Four: First Steps all set for its worldwide release this week. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe haven't had a lot to celebrate in recent times, but some much-needed good news has just been delivered by the president of the studio, Kevin Feige. He has just confirmed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is going to release in July 2026, is likely to feature another iconic comic-book character, and that is going to be Frank Castle, The Punisher. While attending a roundtable discussion for the upcoming Fantastic Four, Feige shed some light on Marvel's plans for Tom Holland's Spider-Man, and how is that movie going to fare considering that it is the last MCU movie to release before Avengers: Doomsday? When asked about whether the film is going to act as a proverbial bridge, which takes the audience to Doomsday, Feige made it clear that Peter Parker is all set to explore his story now, and considering how the last film ended, he has a lot of time to focus on just himself and become the hero he needs to be. He said, 'I think there's a promise at the end of No Way Home that, for as sad as it is, Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life.' ALSO READ: Fantastic Four first reactions say Marvel dials down the noise, turns up the heart in cosmic reboot: 'Emotional punch' He added, 'We are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories him being a proper Spider-Man. He is, by himself, dedicated to saving the city and dealing with—for lack of a better term—street-level crime as opposed to world-ending events that he faced when working with the other characters.' Kevin Feige does make a good point, because even though all of Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies have been successful and well received, it can be argued the character has always had people to rely on. He is yet to go on that 'Batman-like' lonesome journey, where he can discover himself while caring about just his neighbourhood and his city. Interestingly, the Punisher's first-ever comic book appearance was in The Amazing Spider-Man issue #129. Apart from the several gritty storylines he has been a part of in the comics, the character was brought to life by actor Jon Bernthal back in 2016, when he featured in the second season of Daredevil. Since then, Bernthal has impressed audiences with his portrayal of the 'obsessed with justice' character and even played him in two stand-alone seasons. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is all set to release on July 31, 2026.

Kevin Feige teases Tom Holland will become 'proper Spider-Man' in next movie instalment, Entertainment News

Kevin Feige has teased Spider-Man: Brand New Day will see Tom Holland become a "proper Spider-Man". The 29-year-old actor is set to suit up as the Web-Head once again for the upcoming Marvel blockbuster, and the Marvel Studios boss has now said Holland's Wall-Crawler will be his own fully-fledged superhero by Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Speaking at a roundtable interview for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Feige said: "I think there's a promise at the end of No Way Home, that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories him being a proper Spider-Man. "Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with — for lack of better terms — street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events." The Marvel head also explained what direction Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton would be taking with Jon Bernthal's The Punisher in the movie. Feige said: "So when you do that, you say, okay, who are the other street-level characters that we've never seen him interact with? And of course, I love that The Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic. "That great cover ... I don't want to say too much, but Destin — I will say too much — Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie, which starts shooting very soon. "And he's got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool." As well as Holland and Bernthal, Spider-Man: Brand New Day — which is slated to hit screens on July 31, 2026 — will see the return of Zendaya as Michelle 'MJ' Jones-Watson and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink and The Bear's Liza Colón-Zayas have also been cast in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though it has not been confirmed what roles they will be playing in the film. Although plot details about Spider-Man: Brand New Day are being kept under wraps, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk is rumoured to be the main antagonist of the movie. Looking to the future, Feige teased he wanted Spider-Man to cross paths with the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), especially Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn). He said: "We didn't do chemistry reads, but whenever we cast it is with that blue sky dream in mind of one day being able to do that. "And that's a great example. That's one of the key relationships in Marvel comics is Johnny Storm and Peter Parker. And we've never been able to come close to it before and now it is in the realm of possibility. That's exciting. That gets me up in the morning." Recently, Holland teased Spider-Man: Brand New Day would feel like a "breath of fresh air", much like his original 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming. He told Flip Your Wig: "It's gonna feel like making [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again. It's been such a long time that I've done it that it's gonna feel like a breath of fresh air. "And I think the fans are gonna be over the moon with what we're putting together." [[nid:715595]]

Tom Holland's Spider-Man set to start over in ‘Brand New Day' with The Punisher in tow

Marvel Studios is taking Tom Holland's Spider-Man in a sharply different direction. In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the focus shifts from multiversal chaos and Avengers-scale disasters to a grounded New York story. Marvel boss Kevin Feige, speaking at a roundtable during promotions for Fantastic Four: First Steps, said, Explore courses from Top Institutes in Please select course: Select a Course Category Others others Data Science Cybersecurity Data Science Finance CXO Healthcare Artificial Intelligence Leadership Project Management Technology PGDM Digital Marketing healthcare Public Policy Design Thinking Product Management MCA Management MBA Data Analytics Degree Skills you'll gain: Duration: 28 Weeks MICA CERT-MICA SBMPR Async India Starts on undefined Get Details Skills you'll gain: Duration: 28 Weeks MICA CERT-MICA SBMPR Async India Starts on undefined Get Details 'I think there's a promise at the end of No Way Home, that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories him being a proper Spider-Man. The Punisher returns Feige also confirmed that Jon Bernthal is returning as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher. His inclusion brings a rougher edge to the story. It's a deliberate attempt to tap into the roots of both characters, and the darker moral grey zones they navigate when their paths cross. 'Brand New Day' inspired by the Comics The film's title, Brand New Day, references a 2008 comic book arc where Peter Parker strikes a deal with Mephisto to undo his marriage and identity, essentially rebooting his life. While Mephisto has already appeared in Ironheart, it's unclear if he'll appear in this version of the story. Feige has kept plot details tightly guarded, but the nod to classic comic covers and Bernthal's return suggests this will be one of the more faithful adaptations in recent memory. Cast, characters and fresh faces Alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya returns as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. Also joining the film are Stranger Things star Sadie Sink and The Bear's Liza Colón-Zayas. Their roles remain under wraps for now. Meanwhile, there's buzz around Mark Ruffalo's Hulk being lined up as the film's primary antagonist. Nothing confirmed yet, but it's a detail fans will be watching closely. Future crossovers already on the table Feige hinted at his long-term hopes for the Spider-Man character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe , particularly with the incoming Fantastic Four. 'We didn't do chemistry reads, but whenever we cast, it is with that blue sky dream in mind of one day being able to do that. And that's a great example. That's one of the key relationships in Marvel comics is between Johnny Storm and Peter Parker. And we've never been able to come close to it before, and now it is in the realm of possibility. That's exciting. That gets me up in the morning.' That crossover between Peter and Johnny Storm (to be played by Joseph Quinn) has been long awaited. If it happens, it could mark a new chapter for both characters. What Tom Holland said about returning After years away from the solo Spider-Man films, Tom Holland has said returning for Brand New Day feels familiar in the best way. Speaking to Flip Your Wig, Holland said, 'It's gonna feel like making [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again. It's been such a long time that I've done it that it's gonna feel like a breath of fresh air. And I think the fans are gonna be over the moon with what we're putting together.' Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for release on 31 July 2026. It will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton , best known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Production begins soon. And while much of the plot remains under wraps, what's clear is this: Spider-Man is heading back to the streets. Back to the shadows. And perhaps, back to where he belongs.
