Ahead Of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Franchise's Flash Thompson Actor Shares One Hope For The Character (And I Have Mixed Feelings)
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Sony's standalone live-action Spider-Verse officially seems dead following a series of duds. All the while, the actual live-action Spider-Man that exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen success that's unmatched for a character that's been adapted for film so many times. With the upcoming Brand New Day, Tom Holland will do something nobody has done before: star in a fourth Spidey movie. Ahead of that, co-star Tony Revelori revealed something he'd love to seen, and I'm torn. What will actually happen in the upcoming Spidey flick is anyone's guest but, now that Sony's Venom franchise has come to an end, seeing an official MCU Venom isn't outside the realm of possibility. If it were to happen, Tony Revolori, who plays Flash Thompson in the continuity, admits he would love to follow in the comic character's footsteps and become Agent Venom. He told The Direct… Yeah, you know, look, I've read the comics that everyone's read. I would be really, really f-ing excited to do something like that. That would be really cool. I have no idea what or if or when or maybe, and we'll see. Look, the hope is to do it, the dream is to do it. And we'll see if it ever happens. And if it doesn't, they're making great shit regardless that I will watch over and over and over again, and I'm just happy to have been a part of it. While the version of Venom that we saw in Sony's trilogy with Tom Hardy is the somewhat traditional version of the character, the Venom symbiote of the comics has gone a lot of places and bonded with a lot of people over the decades. One of those was Flash Thompson, who bonded with Venom as part of a U.S. government program when Thompson was in the military. The character became known as Agent Venom. On the one hand, this is a kind of brilliant idea. If and when Venom ever officially joins the MCU, doing it in a significantly different way makes a lot of sense. After all, fans just saw a trilogy of Venom/Eddie Brock movies, which are officially part of Marvel's multiverse, so doing it again likely isn't going to excite a lot of people. On top of that, connecting Venom to an existing MCU character that audiences know certainly makes more sense than introducing all of it with new characters. Fans know the character already, and they know Flash, so why not? Tony Revolori's version of Flash is also significantly different from the traditional comic iteration, which means an original, and therefore more interesting, version of Agent Venom as a result. At the same time, it's not even clear at this point whether Tony Revolori, or other recurring Spidey movie actors are even going to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, nobody knows Peter Parker. This gives the movie a really intriguing opportunity to take the franchise in new directions, and if everybody from the other movies just comes back anyway, it won't feel like much of anything is 'brand new.' Like a lot of people, I would love to see Tom Holland's Spider-Man go up against Venom at some point, whatever form that may take. If it ends up being Flash Thompson's Venom, it's not the worst idea. I'm just not sure it's the right one.

Andrew Garfield & Focus Features Nearing Deals To Join Paul Greengrass Peasant Revolt Movie ‘The Rage': Cannes Market
EXCLUSIVE: In one of the bigger deals being thrashed out during the Cannes market, we hear that Focus Features is working on a domestic pact in the $11M range for Paul Greengrass' peasant revolt movie The Rage. Two-time Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield is now in active negotiations to join the movie in the lead role, taking over from Matthew McConaughey. More from Deadline Jude Law & Andrew Garfield To Play Siegfried & Roy In Limited Series Ordered By Apple TV+ Andrew Garfield Says Spider-Man Return 'Would Have To Be Very Weird' & The 'Creative Freedom' Of Animated 'Spider-Verse' Movies Alexander Skarsgård-Harry Melling BDSM Romance Pic 'Pillion' Spurs Eight-Minute Ovation At Cannes Premiere The film is set during the Peasants' Revolt, a major uprising that took part across large parts of England in 1381 in response to socio-economic and political tensions and high taxation. Should a deal get done, which we understand is likely, Garfield would play a farmer who becomes the leader of the revolt. It has been speculated that the character could be based on the legendary Wat Tyler, who led the uprising before being killed by forces loyal to King Richard, though this is unconfirmed. Garfield's English background (the dual UK-U.S. national was raised in the UK) makes him a good fit for the project. Between Spider-Man and Hacksaw Ridge, The Social Network and tick tick…BOOM! he has long proven able to mix it between action and prestige roles that connect with audiences and garner significant box office. He is coming off romantic drama We Live in Time, which took close to $60M worldwide, and next will be seen opposite Julia Roberts in Luca Guadagnino's After the Hunt. RELATED: Oscar nominee Greengrass, well known for the Bourne franchise and such movies as Captain Phillips and United 93, is scripting the project. Jason Blum is producing through Blumhouse Productions, with Greg Goodman, Joanna Kaye and Greengrass. CAA Media Finance is repping domestic. FilmNation is selling international. Focus has been into the project for a while and began talks at EFM. Blum and Goodman recently teamed on Greengrass' upcoming movie The Lost Bus for Apple. Focus is coming off a busy and lucrative awards season thanks to Conclave and Nosferatu. It's at the Cannes Film Festival with Wes Anderson's Phoenician Scheme and The History of Sound and there are high hopes later this year for movies such as Hamnet, Bugonia and the next Downton Abbey installment. Spider-Noir first look: Nicolas Cage in gritty superhero series set during the Great Depression-era New York
Nicolas Cage is officially returning to the Spider-Verse, this time in a live-action role as the gritty, noir-style superhero in 'Spider-Noir,' a new series co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. The first-look image for the series has been unveiled, giving fans a glimpse of Nicolas Cage's brooding take on the mid-century hero, first introduced in animated form in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Across the Spider-Verse (2023). Set in Great Depression-era New York, 'Spider-Noir' follows an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator, who also happens to be the city's only costumed crimefighter. The series marks Nicolas Cage's first television role, portraying a darker, vintage version of Spider-Man that pays homage to pulp fiction and noir cinema of the era. The series will be available to watch in both black-and-white and color, allowing viewers to choose how they experience the stylised setting. In addition to Cage, the series will feature a diverse ensemble cast including: Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin) Jack Huston (American Hustle) Lamorne Morris (New Girl, Fargo) Guest stars will include Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Cameron Britton, Kai Caster, Cary Christopher, Lukas Haas, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Andrew Robinson, and Amanda Schull. 'Spider-Noir' is set to premiere sometime in 2026, though an exact date has not yet been revealed. The series will first air on MGM+'s cable and satellite channels in the US, followed by a global release on Amazon Prime Video the following day. Spider-Man Noir, also known as Spider-Noir or simply Noir, is an alternate version of Peter Parker from Marvel's Noir universe. Like the original, he gains his powers from a radioactive spider and takes on the mantle of crimefighter after the death of his Uncle Ben — but this version operates in a much darker, more violent world, using detective skills and old-school grit rather than quippy charm. With its period setting, stylized visuals, and Nicolas Cage's noir-infused gravitas, 'Spider-Noir' promises to bring something fresh to the ever-expanding Marvel multiverse.

First look: Nicolas Cage is all set to play the most genre-defying, neo-noir Spider-Man yet
The Spider-Verse just got darker, and a lot more interesting. Nicolas Cage, the cult-favourite actor known for his eclectic roles, is officially stepping back into the Spider-Man universe. But this time, he's not just lending his voice. In a dramatic twist for the franchise, Cage will star in Spider-Noir, a live-action neo-noir series coming to OTT in 2026. For fans of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, this won't be Cage's first dance with the web. He previously voiced the moody, hard-boiled Spider-Man Noir in the Oscar-winning animated film — a black-and-white vigilante from an alternate 1930s reality. That version became a breakout favourite thanks to his dry wit, trench coat swagger, and deep moral code. Now, he's back but not just in voice, but in full fedora-wearing, shadow-hugging glory. The first look gives fans a glimpse of Cage suited up in the character's now-iconic costume: white goggles glowing against a shadowy webbed mask, his trench coat billowing in the darkness. The show promises a faithful tone, drawing directly from the Spider-Man Noir comic books rather than the animated adaptation. Set in a hauntingly stylised 1930s New York, Spider-Noir follows an ageing, world-weary private investigator who once fought crime as the city's only superhero — but left that life behind. Now, faced with a city drowning in corruption and chaos, he must reckon with the ghost of the man he once was. The series will be released in both black-and-white and colour, offering viewers a choice between classic noir aesthetics and a more modern visual tone — an ambitious stylistic decision that mirrors the duality of the character himself. Though most details are under wraps, a leaked teaser has already ignited buzz online. It opens with a silhouetted figure standing above a rain-slicked skyline, Cage's gravelly voice narrating: 'Have you seen it? The city is a mess. The people could use a hero.' Quick cuts show a spider crawling across pavement, new mysterious faces, and the titular hero going hand-to-hand with armed thugs. The scene crescendos with a final, chilling shot: Spider-Noir's glowing white eyes illuminating in the dark, startling his prey. The teaser ends with a stark title card: Coming 2026. While Spider-Noir shares DNA with Into the Spider-Verse, it stands alone in tone and scope — a noir detective story draped in spandex and shadow. It's less quips and quirk, more bruised knuckles and broken pasts. With Cage at the helm, this series promises a version of Spider-Man unlike any we've seen before — older, edgier, and soaked in noir cool; Spider-Noir could become one of Marvel's boldest genre experiments yet.

Amazon shares first official pic of Nicolas Cage in Spider-Noir
Last year, it was officially announced that Nicolas Cage will reprise his role as Spider-Man Noir in the upcoming live-action series, Spider-Noir. While Cage has previously been spotted on the show's set in the costume created for his character, Amazon shared the first official picture of the actor as Spider-Man Noir during Prime Video's upfront presentation. Your first look at Spider-Noir, a new live-action series starring Nicolas Cage, coming 2026 in both black-and-white and color. — Prime Video (@PrimeVideo) May 12, 2025 As noted in the message above, Spider-Noir will be streaming in both black and white like the original comic and in color as well. Spider-Man Noir was created in 2009 by writers David Hine and Fabrice Sapolsky, artist Carmine Di Giandomenico, and the designer of the costume, Marko Djurdjević. This version of Spider-Man was introduced as part of a Marvel Comic event that featured some of the publishers' top characters re-imagined in noir setting during the Great Depression. Recommended Videos Spider-Man Noir reappeared in several comics including the initial Spider-Verse crossover. Cage went on to voice the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. It's unclear how many changes the show will make to the character or if he will even be called Peter Parker in this incarnation. The show's description simply states that Spider-Noir 'tells the story of an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city's one and only superhero.' Cage briefly played Superman in The Flash feature film, which was a nod to the Superman Lives movie by Tim Burton that was ultimately never made. The actor also starred as Ghost Rider in two live-action feature films. The primary cast of Spider-Noir includes Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Abraham Popoola, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, and Jack Huston. Amazon hasn't set a date for the show yet, but it will premiere on MGM+ in the United States and stream on Prime Video worldwide.
