USF football set for afternoon kickoffs vs. Gators, ‘Canes
One of the most unrelenting non-conference football schedules in USF history also will be one of the most humid. The school announced Thursday the Bulls' games at Florida (Sept. 6) and Miami (Sept. 13) will kick off at 4:15 and 4:30 p.m., respectively. SEC Network will televise the USF-Gators contest, while the Bulls-Canes will be carried on The CW. Advertisement The sauna-like conditions won't stop there. USF's final non-conference game, Sept. 20 at home vs. South Carolina State, will kick off at noon and will be available on ESPN+. Kickoff times, and some dates, are determined by schools' respective network partners. At this point, USF — which launched nearly 30 years ago behind the premise of bringing Saturday night college football back to the bay area — has no Saturday evening home contests slated. However, kickoff times of two home games (Oct. 18 vs. FAU, Nov. 29 vs. Rice) have yet to be determined. Three home games (Aug. 28 vs. Boise State, Oct. 3 vs. Charlotte, Nov. 6 vs. UTSA) are weeknight contests. BCCI Promised To Make Virat Kohli Test Captain Again But Later Changed Mind: Report
Last Updated: According to a report, Kohli was given a hint that he may be made the captain of the Indian Test cricket team again during the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Virat Kohli is India's most successful captain in Test cricket. Since taking charge of the Indian team in December 2014 to stepping down from the role in January 2022, Kohli led India in a total of 68 Test matches and won 40 of them, which is the most by an Indian. Kohli, who was expected to feature in a five-match Test series against England starting June 20 in Leeds, took to Instagram on Monday (May 12) afternoon to announce his retirement from the five-day format of the game. Kohli's decision to quit Test cricket with immediate effect at the age of 36 came as a shock for fans around the globe. But now, a couple of days after his retirement from Tests, it has been reported that he wanted to become captain of the Indian Test side again and was promised as well by the BCCI for the same, but later the board changed its mind. According to a report, the 36-year-old was given a hint that he may be made the captain of the Indian Test cricket team again during the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. A video report by Sports Today stated that Kohli was hinted at a return to captaincy, and this happened after India lost the day-night Test inside three days in Adelaide under Rohit Sharma's captaincy. 'At least people close to him do seem to suggest that he was given sort of a hint that he would be getting captaincy after Adelaide. But then things changed," the report said. The report added that Kohli was still hopeful of getting back the captaincy, and for that reason he also played a Ranji Trophy match for Delhi against Railways at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, as mandated by the BCCI. But in April, he was told that he was being as a player, and then he decided to retire. First Published: May 15, 2025, 23:07 IST

BCCI To Take A Call On Sunil Gavaskar's 'IPL With No Cheerleaders, DJs' Suggestion: Report
With the Indian Premier League (IPL) set to resume to resume on Saturday, May 17, legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar urged the BCCI the remaining 17 matches without cheerleaders and DJs. According to a report, the BCCI is now seriously considering the suggestion made by Gavaskar. IPL 2025 was suspended for a week on May 8 amid cross-border tensions with Pakistan following the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. The heinous attack claimed the lives of as many as 26 civilians. According to a report in India Today, the BCCI will soon take a call on staging the remainder of IPL 2025 without entertainment and glamour. "The Indian cricket board will make a decision after Sunil Gavaskar urged the BCCI to stage the remaining 17 matches without cheerleaders and DJs," the report said. As a gesture for those who died during the Pahalgam attack, Gavaskar felt that there should not be any entertainment (apart from the sport on display) in the remaining IPL 2025 matches. "What I would really like to see is, these are the last few matches. I think we have had about 60 games or thereabouts. I think it is the last 15 or 16 games. I would sincerely... because of what has happened and some families have lost their near and dear ones, I would like all the show-sha baji that goes with it to not be there. Just the game to be played. Let there be crowd but no music. Let's not have the DJs screaming in the middle of an over. None of that," Gavaskar told Sports Today. "Let's just have a tournament, the balance of a tournament. No dancing girls, nothing. Just cricket would be a really nice way to respect the sentiment of the families who have lost their near and dear ones." It is worth pointing out that the match during the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians, players from both teams donned black armbands to mourned the victims, while there were also no cheerleaders and fireworks. The players had also observed a minute's silence to pay their respects to those affected by the incident that has drawn international condemnation. Listen to the latest songs, only on

Virat Kohli Was Given 'Hint' About Captaincy Return, Then 'Tone Changed': Report Claims Reason Behind Retirement
Virat Kohli 's retirement from Test cricket has left Indian cricket with a vacuum that may not be filled for a long time. Already dealing with the retirements of Ravichandran Ashwin and Rohit Sharma, Indian Test cricket lost the services of another veteran when Kohli, through an Instagram post on May 12, announced that he would not longer be continuing in the longest format. That he was not keen on continuing in Tests was a buzz that was already quite loud in the days leading up to the announcement. But when it happened, most were taken aback as reports suggested that the BCCI and several other big names had tried to convince Kohli to continue playing with India's Tour of England starting in June. Now, according to report, Virat Kohli was given a hint that he may be made the Indian cricket team Test captain again during India's Tour of Australia in December-January. In the video report by Sports Today, it is said that Kohli was hinted about a return to captaincy. This happened after India lost the second Test in Adelaide under Rohit Sharma's captaincy. "At least people close to him do seem to suggest that he was given sort of a hint that he would be getting captaincy after Adelaide. But then things changed," the report said. Then India lost the series and the report mentioned that there was a 'change in tone' and the though process of the team management was that it should look at a young captain. The report mentioned that Kohli was still hopeful of getting back the captaincy and also played a Ranji Trophy match for Delhi in February, as mandated by the BCCI. But in April, Kohli was told that he was being as a player. Then the star decided to retire. In fact, former India cricketer and national selector Sarandeep Singh, who is also the coach of the Delhi team, recently made some stunning revelations. "There was no hint (of retirement). Did not even hear from anywhere. Some days ago, I was talking to him but I did not get any hint that he was thinking about this. The kind of IPL he is having, he is in incredible form," Singh said. "I asked him if will he would play County cricket before the Test matches. He said he wanted to play two India 'A' matches before the Test series (against England). It was already settled. Suddenly, we hear he will no longer play red ball cricket. There is no fitness issue. No form issue. He got one century in Australia, but he was not satisfied. During the Ranji Trophy, he was saying that he wants to score three-four centuries in England because is the most senior player in the team." With the latest report, it seems behind Kohli's retirement there might be more reasons than what meet the eyes. Listen to the latest songs, only on
