Sri Ram Sene seeks ban on SDPI, blames Kerala activists for violence in Mangaluru

Sri Ram Sene founder Pramod Mutalik has said that SDPI activists are engaged in communally violent acts and demanded a ban on the organisation. 'We have clear evidence to show that SDPI activists from Kerala are responsible for communal violence in Mangaluru and other places. They need to be arrested. SDPI should be banned, like the PFI,' he said. He was speaking to reporters here on Sunday. He said that caste-based discrimination is deep-rooted and is nearly impossible to eliminate. 'Basavanna fought all his life to eradicate the caste system and establish a new social order. But we have confined him to a caste and we take pride in following the caste system. We are also limiting B.R. Ambedkar to a particular caste. This is deplorable. We should forget all our caste distinctions and announce that we are proud Hindus,' he said. He urged the people not to donate to maths and other Hindu religious institutions. 'They are all well developed. They do not need your support. It is Hindu activists like us who need your support. Most of our resources are spent in fighting cases,' he said. He said that the Love Jihad prevention helpline has received over 5,000 calls in one year. 'We have resolved over 90% of the cases and provided solace to girls. Our activists trace address and phone numbers of Muslim boys who lure girls. They find the girls, convince them of the conspiracy and succeed in reuniting them with their parents,' he said. 'We are not opposed to genuine love. But we will not tolerate fake love and attempts to convert innocent Hindu girls to Islam with false promises,' he said. He said that he is confident that the evil practice of Love Jihad will end soon and the helpline will be closed. Sri Ram Sene South India coordinator Sundaresh Naregal said that the helpline is facing several challenges like logistics, funding and legal problems. All those who claim to be Hindutva leaders do not send their children for protests and agitations. Ordinary activists like us are left to fend for ourselves. Helpline coordinator Basavaraj Goudar said that Sri Ram Sene activists face several problems in battling Love Jihad incidents. Police do not cooperate at all times. Several times, the girls are brainwashed. However, 'we have succeeded in battling all such problems,' he said.

Girls now carry trishuls to resist Love Jihad: Muthalik

Hubballi, Jun 1 (UNI) Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik has claimed that 'every girl now carries a trishul in her bag' as a symbolic measure to resist what he described as Love Jihad—a term used by some groups to allege coercive interfaith relationships leading to religious conversion. Speaking at an event in Hubballi marking the first anniversary of the helpline Sahaya Vani, Muthalik said the service had received 6,158 calls over the past year, involving cases where young women were allegedly being misled or coerced in the name of love. 'We have been able to intervene in 93 per cent of these cases and prevent the girls from falling into such traps,' he told reporters in a press meet. Muthalik also alleged that some of the cases involved attempt to impose different cultural and religious practices on the women. 'They were forced to wear the burkha, prohibited from worshipping their family deities, and even made to consume beef against their customs,' he alleged. 'Our teams have worked day and night to support affected families. This helpline has become a success,' he added. Issuing a warning to those allegedly involved in such activities, Muthalik said, 'We have now given a clear message. Every girl carries a trishul in her bag. If anyone attempts Love Jihad, the answer will come from that very trishul.' He also called upon all social and religious organisations to extend full support—'in body, mind, and resources'—to protect young women and raise awareness. Muthalik said leaders from various castes and communities were present at the event and had expressed solidarity with the initiative. The term Love Jihad remains controversial and is not legally defined. While some right-wing groups claim it is part of a larger conspiracy, investigations by central agencies have found no evidence of any organised network involved in religious conversions through romantic relationships. Muthalik's remarks are expected to draw sharp reactions from civil society organisations and political parties, which have often cautioned against statements that could inflame social tensions. ‘I am free now': Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik thanks Goa CM Pramod Sawant for lifting ban on his entry into state

In his first public appearance in Goa for more than a decade, Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik thanked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for 'revoking' the ban against him entering the state. 'For the last 10 years, there was a ban (on Muthalik entering Goa). Abhi mukt ho gya hun (I am free now). The ban has been lifted due to the graciousness of the Chief Minister. I want to thank him. I met him yesterday. I told him that it is because of his courtesy that I got the opportunity to visit,' Muthalik said in Goa on Sunday. He was speaking on the sidelines of the 'Sanatan Rashtra Shankhnad Mahotsav', organised by the Goa-based Sanatan Sanstha, to commemorate the 83rd birthday of the group's founder, Jayant Athavale, and the group's silver jubilee. CM Sawant had attended the opening ceremony of the three-day event on Saturday. On what prompted the state to impose the ban, Muthalik said, 'Yehi sarkar thi (It was the same government that imposed the ban). In their view, there may have been a wrong opinion about my personality, which is why the ban was enforced at the time.' The controversial chief of Sri Ram Sene shot into the limelight for 'moral policing', after he led a group of men who attacked men and women visiting a pub in Mangaluru in 2009, claiming they were 'violating traditional Indian values'. Subsequently, under the Congress-led government, the district administration in Goa in 2009 issued a notification banning the entry of Muthalik and his associates into the state. Muthalik's entry in Goa was again banned in August 2014, when BJP's Manohar Parrikar was the Chief Minister, after Muthalik had announced his decision to set up his outfit in Goa later that year to 'fight against drug, alcohol and pub culture' in the state. According to officials, the decision to ban his entry was based on police reports that had warned that the entry of members of Sri Ram Sene and its leader could lead to a law-and-order problem in Goa, and that his statements 'will affect peace, harmony and create fear in the minds of the public'. For over a decade, the ban had been extended every few months by the district magistrates of the two districts in Goa. However, the ban lapsed this year and was not extended. In March, Muthalik entered Goa and met former Goa RSS chief-turned-rebel Subhash Velingkar at his home in Panaji.

Hindu activists want Muslim vendors out of Gadag fair

GADAG: The Pahalgam terror attack has cast a shadow on the Gadag's Tontadarya fair, which is famous for its communal harmony. Activists from Hindu organisations on Saturday staged a protest, demanding that Muslim vendors be thrown out of the fair that started on April 13. They warned that if the vendors from the minority community are not sent out immediately, they will intensify the protest. Activists from Sri Ram Sene and other organisations said terrorists in Kashmir asked the religion of tourists before killing them. 'Here, we will ask the religion of vendors and throw them out of the fair,' they added. Some mutt devotees said the fair is to showcase communal harmony and everybody will be given an opportunity. 'If that is the case, the organisers will have to face a difficult situation,' the protesters warned. With the threat, the police are keeping a tighter vigil at the fair. This is one of the important fairs in Gadag, organised by the Tontadarya Mutt, and it is on till May 13. This time, the number of stalls put up by Muslims is more. The mutt, which is famous for communal harmony, invites vendors from other religions too for the fair. A Sri Ram Sene leader said, 'For the last ten years, we have been asking the fair committee to allow only Hindus to put up businesses. This time, we are planning to go for more intense steps. If the fair committee does not decide, we warn that we will pull out Muslim vendors and throw them out.' Mutt authorities, however, have not commented or answered to these protests. They may come up with a decision after meeting with the jatra committee under the guidance of the seer, Siddaram.

Sri Ram Sene stages protest in Dharwad over Janivara issue

Sri Ram Sene members staged a protest in Dharwad on Sunday saying that some police personnel had cut the Janivara or sacred thread of a candidate appearing for the CET in Dharwad recently. The police stopped some activists who tried to storm the Sub-Urban Police Station. The protestors said that the police on duty forced Nandan Vivek, a student from Raghavendra Nagar, to remove his sacred thread and then, cut it before allowing him to appear for the CET. The police, however, denied the charge. The protestors blocked the Dharwad- Belagavi Road for some time. The police took some protestors into custody, cleared the road and released them later. Some members of various Brahmin organisations staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Dharwad. They said that this action has deeply hurt the Brahmin community. They demanded action against examination officers and the police. Sri Ram Sene founder Pramod Mutalik visited the house of the candidate and interacted with the family. He later told reporters that some people from the Brahmin community are preparing to approach the High Court against the action of some police and examination duty personnel who forcibly removed the sacred thread of some candidates appearing for the CET. It has happened in Shivamogga, Bidar and Dharwad. The Congress government is trying to stop rank-winning students from appearing for the CET. This is not acceptable. The government should realise that it is not just Brahmins who wear the sacred thread. Several other communities also do it. The rule that such things cannot be worn by candidates is stupid and meaningless. How can you use the sacred thread to copy? What kind of electronic devices can be attached to the thread? he asked. To a query, he said that such practices should be stopped during examinations conducted by the Central and State governments. Mr. Mutalik said that several students have complained to him that they were asked to remove not only Janivara but also Lingadakai. 'Some girl students said that the wrist thread, hairbands and hair clips too were removed, which demoralised them while writing the CET. All this is meaningless,' he said. Mr. Mutalik said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's silence over the issue is not acceptable. 'The Chief Minister should tell us how his government is going to give justice to students who were denied entry to the examination halls in various towns and cities,' he said. Meantime, Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J. said that she has directed the Deputy Director of Pre-University Education to hold an inquiry into the complaint of the student and submit a report.
