This star became highest-paid actress, got film offers while sitting at home, revived Rishi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna's career by…, died tragically due to…, she was…

Several actresses in Indian cinema have seen their careers take a dramatic turn after a single standout role. Whether it was a breakthrough debut or a powerful comeback, these performances not only showcased their talent but also changed the trajectory of their careers. However, there was this one actress who stood apart, not just for her unmatched talent, but for how she became a game-changer for two actors of the industry, which revived their sinking careers. The Legendary Actress of Bollywood… Here, we are talking about legendary late actress Sridevi who is considered as one of the most finest in the history of Indian Cinema. The actress, who made her debut with the 1979 romantic-drama Solva Sawan. She turned everyone's heads towards her after featuring with Jeetendra in the action drama Himmatwala, which became a game-changer for the actress. As per reports by Hindustan Times, she charged Rs 1 crore for doing a film, which made her the highest-paid actress of the 90s era. In the upcoming years, she became one of the most respected actors from the country and became part of yet another blockbuster Chaandni. But, did you know an interesting story about this film that became a game-changer for two actors and a director? The Story Behind the Film… The 1989 film was helmed by late director Yash Chopra, who was best known for his dynamic storytelling and experimental approach towards cinema. He tried the same with this film as well. At first, the script was written by Kamna Chandra. As per her writing, Chandni left her husband, having a son, and falling in love with Lalit. The climax would be her kid attending her wedding. However, Chopra disapproved of this and took a section of the writing and made changes, but after the changes, exhibitors of the film felt that it may not work for the masses. When Yash Chopra Visited Sridevi's House Yash Chopra approached Sridevi after seeing her performance in her Tamil film titled Moondram Pirai and asked his close friend Boney Kapoor to arrange a meeting with her, but later decided to meet in person with her. Later, the director visited Sridevi's home in Chennai, narrated the script, and signed her for the film. After its initial release, the film garnered huge heaps of praise for its amazing storytelling and groundbreaking performance, which became a huge reason for its success. The film, which was made under Rs 8 crore, mounted Rs 27 crore and emerged as a blockbuster and the highest-grossing film of that year. The film's success revived the sinking careers of Rishi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, and Yash Chopra, who were facing rough patches before Chaandni. Rishi Kapoor, who gave many significant flops, became an overnight star, while Vinod Khanna earned lots of praise for shifting his roles from action hero to lover boy. The Tragic End of Sridevi On February 24, 2018, she was discovered dead in her guest room at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with the reason listed as accidental drowning. Media reports suggested that she lost her consciousness and she drowned in the hotel room's bathtub.

First Look: Janhvi Kapoor Makes her Cannes Film Festival Debut

Janhvi is the 28-year-old daughter of Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor and late actress Sridevi. Her sister Khushi Kapoor is also an actress, as is her cousin, Sonam Kapoor. She has appeared in over a dozen films since making her acting debut in 2018, and has also starred on runways for labels like Rahul Mishra, Amit Aggarwal and Kalki at Lakme Fashion Week in India. For her first-ever red carpet look at Cannes, she placed her trust in Tahiliani and her cousin – stylist Rhea Kapoor – to conceptualise the outfit. 'I think she [Rhea] really wanted to bring out a side of me that hasn't been explored much, and focus more on my face and on how she sees me,' Janhvi explains. Making the dress: Tarun Tahiliani Making the dress: Tarun Tahiliani For both of the Kapoors, it was important that Janhvi wear an Indian designer for her first Cannes appearance. 'I really think it's their time to shine. I mean, I've known this for a really long time,' says the actress. 'A lot of the textiles that are put on these international garments, on these international red carpets, on these huge Western actors or huge global stars from all around the world have been textiles that were manufactured and created in India by Indian and craftsmen. So I think it is high time that's put on a global stage and our designers are given the kind of credit that they deserve," she adds, pointing out that the Met Gala last month saw a great turnout of Indian designers, from Sabyasachi to Gaurav Gupta and Prabal Gurung. 'I think I look the best and I feel my most comfortable in Indian clothes. And if I'm being put on a global stage like this, I'd like to feel my most comfortable and confident. So it was honestly a very organic decision for me.' 'Specifically for the film that I've come here with, it was important for me to stay in touch with my roots,' continues Janhvi, who is in Cannes for the premiere of her film, Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. Also starring Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa, it tells the story of two friends from a village in North India who find their friendship impacted when they pursue jobs as police officers. Janhvi says that although the plot is rooted in India, it has global relevance. 'It's a story that I think is the need of the hour. It invites people to introspect at being perpetrators, or at the receiving end of any sort of social exclusion, which I think is a human tragedy that's occurring all around the world in different countries," she shares. "It's an observational piece on different sorts of social hierarchies, and a study of human nature.' This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from. Keeping these themes in mind, she gave Rhea a brief about the film, and expressed the kind of energy she wanted to embody, in terms of being taken 'a little more seriously' for her Cannes debut. And while Janhvi acknowledges that fashion is a massive aspect of the festival, she points out that the event is ultimately about the movies being honoured. 'I really wanted the attention to stay on the fact that we're here representing a film,' she says. 'It's a huge opportunity to even be in the vicinity of so many artists that I admire and look up to, and the fact that our movie is in competition is nerve-wracking, but very exciting. I'm thrilled, and constantly pinching myself.'

Sridevi had her own charm in Hindi cinema. Any film in which she was a part would become a hit. In 1989, she was seen in a film in which she not only acted but also saved the sinking career of the director. Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna were also seen in lead roles in this film. The film created a stir at the box office. The name of that film of Rishi Kapoor, Sridevi and Vinod Khanna is 'Chandni'. When this film hit the theatres in the year 1989, people became crazy about this love story. The film was a huge success in terms of earnings. Yash Chopra did such an experiment with this film, which everyone doubted, even the distributors. People also liked the theme of the film a lot. It was one of the blockbuster films of that era. Sridevi got an offer while sitting at home Director Yash Chopra, who made the film 'Chandni', and the three lead stars of the film, Vinod Khanna, Sridevi, and Rishi Kapoor, are no longer with us. But whenever the names of these four are mentioned, this film is remembered. If Yash Chopra wanted, he could have called Sridevi to his office in Mumbai to talk about the film 'Chandni'. But he did not do so, showing his magnanimity, he went to Chennai and offered this film to Sridevi at her home. In the film, Sridevi has mostly worn chiffon saris and white salwar kurtas. In the role of Chandni, she was always seen spreading moonlight. The whole story was changed Yash Chopra had come up with a love triangle like Chandni in the action era, so it was a big experiment. The story of the film was written by Kamna Chandra. In the film, Rishi Kapoor, i.e., Rohit's character, becomes handicapped after marrying Chandni and becoming the father of a child. In the climax of the film, their son brings a bouquet to Chandni's second wedding. But Yash Chopra got crazy and changed the entire story of the film and broke the love story of Rohit and Chandni after their engagement. A love triangle was added to the film by including Lalit and Chandni in Bombay. Before this film, Rishi Kapoor had given many flop films. But after Chandni, his luck shone so much that he got back his lost stardom. Not only this, Vinod Khanna, who was known for his image of an action hero, got a new identity by giving him a romantic role. In this sense, this film proved to be a lifesaver for Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor. Yash Chopra's faltering career also came back on the right track after this film.

Not Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra or Aishwarya Rai, this heroine was the most expensive actress, beat three Khans, left Bollywood at the peak of career, she is…

Deepika Padukone has left director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film 'Spirit'. After this, a lot of uproar was seen. The biggest issue was of 'gender pay'. According to many reports, Deepika left the film because the production refused to give her ₹ 20 crores as per her demand, while the male lead of the film Prabhas, is charging more than Rs 100 crores. Well, the issue of the gender pay gap has been raised many times in cinema. This has been happening since ancient times, not today. But now actresses openly express their views on this. But in the 90s, there was one heroine who proved to be an exception in this case. She had left even the superstars behind. This name is of Sridevi, who is considered to be one of India's first pan-India stars. There used to be a competition to cast her in their films. There used to be a lot of issues with dates. In such a situation, she was also the highest-paid star. Sridevi holds the record of being the first female actor to charge ₹1 crore for a film. She earned this amount for 'Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja' released in 1993. It was one of the most expensive Indian films of that time. The first actress who asked for such a high amount Sridevi's fees were not only a burden on actresses but also on actors. At that time, only Chiranjeevi was charging more than her for a film. Then, soon Sridevi increased her fees. By the mid-90s, when Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan joined the Rs 1 crore club, Sridevi was charging more than them. This record is a big thing in itself. Big stars were helpless in front of Sridevi The three Khans entered Bollywood during 1992-97. Stars like Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol, and Sanjay Dutt came and slowly started dominating the industry. Even then, they were charging between Rs 50-75 lakhs at that time. It was not until the end of the 90s, when Sridevi retired from films. It was only when Sridevi took a break from films that the three Khans crossed the Rs 1 crore mark. Meaning Sridevi was way ahead of them. When Sridevi took a break, she was just 33 years old. Sridevi was as beautiful as she was talented. She was a top star not only in Bollywood but also in Tamil and Telugu films. Sridevi was at the peak of her stardom in the mid-90s. But everyone was surprised when she announced a break from films in 1996. Why did Sridevi retire at 33? What happened was that Sridevi was pregnant. Janhvi Kapoor was in her womb. In such a situation, she wanted to take a break from her career and take time for her family. The 1997 release 'Judai' was her last film for almost 15 years. She was only 33 years old when she retired. Then she remained busy raising her daughters, Khushi and Janhvi, for many years. Sridevi made a comeback with the TV show 'Malini Iyer' in 2004-05. But she made her lead role on the big screen in 'English Vinglish' in 2012. Then she was also seen working in 'Puli' (2015) and 'Mom' (2017). Sridevi died in 2018 at the age of 54.
