Around 130 Dumfries and Galloway jobs under threat at Stagecoach West Scotland
The firm is considering its future in the region as it believes contracts will not be renewed following concerns about a new liability clause. Around 130 jobs are under threat at Stagecoach West Scotland. The bus operator's existing contracts for school transport and council subsidised routes across Dumfries and Galloway are due to expire in a few months. But the firm is now considering its future in the region as it believes the deals will not be renewed following concerns about a new liability clause. That could see depots in Dumfries and Stranraer closed, which South Scotland Labour MSP Colin Smyth claims would result in up to 130 jobs being lost. He said: 'If Stagecoach go ahead with their threat to withdraw from the region, this would be devastating news for the workforce – my thoughts are with every employee now facing uncertainty about their future. 'Stagecoach's possible exit would be a hammer blow to public transport in our region and utterly decimate local bus services. 'Having squeezed out competition over the years, Stagecoach know full well this would leave many communities cut off and pupils unable to get to school after the summer. 'To abandon local jobs and lifeline services while clinging onto the profitable routes from afar would be the height of corporate irresponsibility. 'I urge Stagecoach to think again. In the meantime, I've already raised this urgently with the Cabinet Secretary for Transport and will be pressing the Scottish Government and the council to step in put in place alternative operators for these vital services. 'But let's be clear – with Stagecoach running the vast majority of bus routes in the region, I do not underestimate how difficult that will be.' Stagecoach runs a number of routes across Dumfries and Galloway, including services from Dumfries to Lockerbie, Moffat, Castle Douglas and Stranraer. Mr Smyth says he has been told by workers the firm would plan to continue some routes – such as services in Dumfries town and the Dumfries to Glasgow X74 – and these could be run from central belt depots. A Stagecoach West Scotland spokesperson said: 'The majority of the bus services Stagecoach operates in Dumfries and Galloway are under a contract arrangement with SWestrans which are due to expire in August 2025. 'Dumfries and Galloway Council have managed a tender process on behalf of SWestrans, which we have participated in. As part of our due diligence reviewing the terms of the contracts being tendered, we have identified a liability clause that is far in excess of the value of the contracts on offer. 'Stagecoach is unfortunately unable to agree to a contract on these disproportionate terms, and we have now notified the council. It is our understanding that our bids will not be recommended for award. 'We are now reviewing the impact of this on our local network of services and the significant number of staff we employ in the region at our Dumfries and Stranraer depots. 'Stagecoach West Scotland remains committed to keeping people in the community connected while we identify the impact of the tender process. We will provide an update on this when it is appropriate.' A council spokesman said: 'As part of the tender process, the council and SWestrans need to ensure that we have bus operators that meet minimum requirements on a range of industry-standard terms and conditions. This is in order to protect the public interest. 'Dumfries and Galloway Council and SWestrans continue to work through a tender process that has supporting and connecting the communities of Dumfries and Galloway firmly at its heart. 'The council takes its statutory duties to provide those children entitled to school transport extremely seriously and are committed to ensuring all school transport routes are operational for the start of the school year in August, with these routes being given priority. In addition, the council and SWestrans are committed to providing a well-connected local bus network. 'These long-term contracts will provide bus operators with certainty and stability in a market that is increasingly fragile and unsustainable. 'The evaluation, clarification and negotiations relating to tenders received from bus operators is ongoing and confidential. 'With this in mind, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.'

Newmarket residents 'excluded' from new bus route
Two new bus routes have left a community in a town "excluded", a councillor has said. Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority replaced the number 11 bus service from Newmarket, Suffolk, to Cambridge with two new routes on Tuesday. Residents in Studlands Park, Newmarket, have been "excluded from the route" said Janne Jarvis, a Labour councillor at West Suffolk Council and Newmarket Town a statement on their website, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority said: "These routes have been designed to better connect our towns, villages and communities." The new Tiger 4 bus service, which is run by Stagecoach, operates between Newmarket to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. Charlotte Smith, who lives in Exning, Suffolk, said: "We used to be able to get to the centre of Cambridge. We now have to go to Addenbrooke's."Addenbrooke's Hospital is about two miles (3.2km) from Cambridge city centre. She added: "I am a mother; I do not drive. My husband does not drive. We now cannot access Tesco anymore."My main concern of this is I have been a passenger on these buses every day for the last five years and have built community on these buses."Ms Smith added that residents were "looking for accountability from Suffolk County Council" to reach out to explain "why they thought this was OK".A spokesperson for Suffolk County Council confirmed the new routes were "funded by Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority who, as such, ultimately decide on where the bus routes should serve". Jarvis said: "I strongly urge Suffolk County Council to take immediate action to reinstate the Studlands route."It is concerning for the more vulnerable and elderly in our society."We are going to challenge this. We are going to look for a resolution," he and Peterborough Combined Authority added that the new routes will offer "faster journey times, more frequent services, and improved reliability". Sanofi: New Anthem from Girl Band Raises Awareness of Type 1 Diabetes After Research Highlights Silent Struggle
Recent research from Sanofi highlights the significant impact of Type 1 Diabetes on those living with the condition The song, "Rise Up," shares their experiences of living with the condition and will be released on Spotify under the band's name with an accompanying music video Sanofi and Stagecoach partner to form 1Type a girl group composed of four talented children living with autoimmune Type 1 diabetes (aT1D) READING, England, May 29, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Sanofi and Stagecoach Performing Arts are excited to introduce a unique partnership. Selected through a UK-wide audition process, four talented teens living with autoimmune Type 1 diabetes (aT1D) have come together to form a girl band named "1Type". In response to new research highlighting the significant impact of aT1D on those living with the condition[1] the group has released an original song called "Rise Up" to empower young people living with aT1D and help them feel less alone. A Recent survey from Sanofi, of 200 UK adults living with aT1D reveals the unseen burden and challenges faced by people living with aT1D and on society at large[1]. Nearly all individuals (98%) reported that aT1D affects their physical health, 91% saying that it has taken a toll on their mental health[1]. The condition also affects personal relationships, as a third of individuals have had to explain it to close family members. Additionally, more than a quarter (26%) believe aT1D is more misunderstood than Type 2 Diabetes.[1] Also featured is Duke Al Durham, a UK spoken word poet and hip-hop artist also living with aT1D. Together with Duke, the band have contributed their own lived experiences to the song's lyrics creating a meaningful anthem for those living with aT1D. The song has been released on Spotify under the name 1Type and is accompanied by a music video. Sanofi will donate an amount matching the profits from song to charities that support people living with aT1D. aT1D is an autoimmune, complex, and lifelong condition – and it can happen at any age even without family history.[2] It can be a challenging disease with lifelong clinical, economic, and emotional unmet needs for patients and families. In the UK, there is a growing prevalence where approximately 400,000 people are living with the disease, including about 32,000 people 19 years of age and younger.[3],[4] It is known that aT1D is not caused by diet or lifestyle and the causes of aT1D are currently not fully understood. Researchers are exploring the genes and environmental triggers to understand if they play a part in causing the body's immune system to malfunction and start attacking the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. In the UK, aT1D is managed through insulin therapy and glucose monitoring.[5] Research has expanded our understanding of the underlying autoimmune mechanisms of aT1D and has now enabled earlier detection of the disease before symptoms appear.[6] Early detection is not currently available on the NHS. Early detection/early identification of individuals at risk for symptomatic Stage 3 autoimmune T1D may prevent traumatic Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) through glucose monitoring and allow a softer and safer transition to life with aT1D as they learn about management at their own pace[7],[8]. Two large scale studies are underway in the UK that test eligible people[9]. You can learn more about early detection through ELSA study and T1DRA study. 1Type Band & Stagecoach students Ella, Lola-Belle, Olivia & Finely "Creating this song was a powerful experience. Sharing our stories through music has been more than we could have hoped for. We hope this song starts a conversation about type 1 diabetes and fosters a sense of community for others living with it." Ahmed Moussa General Manager, General Medicines UK and Ireland, Sanofi "Supporting the aT1D community is a huge priority for us at Sanofi and this project has been very close to our hearts. These incredible kids are true rockstars, both on stage and, more importantly, in how they manage type 1 diabetes every single day. We are proud to stand alongside them, amplifying their voices." Lisa Stead Chief Operating Officer, Stagecoach Performing Arts "We are incredibly proud to partner with Sanofi on this unique project. We believe in the transformative power of the arts. This project beautifully demonstrates how music can be a powerful tool for raising awareness and building empathy. It's been a fantastic opportunity for these talented young musicians to connect deeply over their shared experiences with aT1D and create something they will cherish forever." Mayor fights to keep March to Peterborough bus route
A newly elected mayor said he would fight to save the only direct bus service between a Cambridgeshire market town and a major said the 33 route between March and Peterborough was due to be shortened on 31 August due to "extremely low passenger numbers", and would start and finish in Whittlesey Bristow, the Conservative mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough's Combined Authority, said talks on the changes were "ongoing", with "potential options available" to keep March connected.A passenger, who relied on the route, told the BBC that the service ending would "have a huge impact on people's jobs and mental state". The passenger, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "For a growing community it's absolutely unacceptable."Another bus user, Craig Denyer, 43, said he lived in Whittlesey but travelled to work in March at a care home. "Currently the bus gets me to and from work at the right times, and costs £2 each way. When the service is cut I will have to use the train, which will be well over £10 a day," he Denyer added that the train times would not be ideal either, as he would have to wait 90 minutes to catch a journey home. A third passenger, who lived in March, said they used the 33 route for regular hospital appointments in cutbacks would leave her having to use a more expensive train or using connecting buses that would mean travelling to Wisbech - "about eight miles in the wrong direction", she a fourth passenger, who commuted daily from Peterborough to March for work, said they were not aware the service was being stopped. They said the news meant they could be forced to find a new job closer to home. Bristow, who is in charge of the Combined Authority that oversees the county's bus network, said: "I understand how worrying it is for people in March and surrounding villages to know that they could lose their only bus service to Peterborough."I have already met with Stagecoach to discuss the 33 and other routes. This dialogue continues. There are potential options for keeping March connected and I hope that we will be able to get one of these options to work." Darren Roe, managing director of Stagecoach East, said: "I welcome our new Mayor Bristow and all the newly elected councillors into their positions. We know just how much we can achieve if we all work together."Cambridgeshire is a wonderful region to serve, but there are big and tough choices to be made to improve our regional transport network. "We believe in the need to plan for the future, and now is the ideal moment to do just that." Follow Cambridgeshire news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X.

What's in your cart? T-Pain shares his streaming and gaming must-haves Plus, find out what the "Buy You A Drank" artist's late-night munchie order is. Big news: T-Pain is fresh off Coachella and Stagecoach festival performances and heading back to Wiscansin. T-Pain's iconic hits like "Buy You A Drank" and "I'm Sprung" were not only the soundtrack of the mid-2000s, but they are still on replay in my house and we're gonna pretend that it hasn't been almost 20 years since those dropped because that makes me feel old. Despite his list of bangers and being crowned the king of autotune, T-Pain's inaugural Coachella performance wasn't until 2025, when he absolutely rocked it. Sure, T-Pain's catchy club hits are classics but over the years, he's also made it clear that he is incredibly talented. Like, have you ever heard him sing sans-autotune? He won the first season of 'The Masked Singer' on NBC and he's racked up nearly four million subscribers across his Nappy Boy Entertainment, gaming and T-Pain channels on YouTube, five million on Instagram and nearly five million on TikTok. As part of USA TODAY Shopping's "What's in your cart?" franchise, we connected with T-Pain to discuss his streaming must-haves and new Munchie Meal at Jack in the Box. T-Pain's streaming and gaming must-haves 'I travel...a lot and so I'm not always streaming from one of my home set ups," T-Pain said. "The Hollyland wireless mics make it easy to still have that clean sound when I'm moving around and on the road. I won't leave home without it.' 1. Hollyland Lark M2 Duo 2-Person Wireless Combo Microphone System More: What's in your cart? Shop Blake Griffin's favorite furniture, shoes and more 2. Rode PodMic Dynamic Podcasting Microphone 3. Red Solo Party Plastic Disposable Cups In probably the most on-brand promotion I've ever seen, T-Pain said he uses at least three red solo cups stacked together. "Never know what is going to be in the solo cups, but you always need three stacked minimum," T-Pain said. "Insulation, you know? Keeps the drink inside cold." Tips from an expert. 4. Meta Quest 3 VR Headset with the Soapbox App "They are doing some really unique stuff in the VR space when it comes to artists and music - something to check out for sure! Also, you can hang out with me from your living room so there is that.' - T-Pain 5. My Jack In The Box Munchie Meal 'When I pull some long streams, I don't have time to necessarily go up to my kitchen and cook something so Jack In The Box is always my go to," T-Pain said. The fast-food chain and the artist recently paired for T-Pain's Munchie Meal. "My munchie meal is basically a gift from the food gods…or at least from Jack. Got everything you could want in just one box. Makes it easy to actually eat while I'm on stream.' What to know about T-Pain's Munchie Meal at Jack in the Box? T-Pain is gearing up for his next big stage: his very own Jack in the Box Munchie Meal. Launching on Monday, June 2, T-Pain will be the latest artist to curate Jack in the Box's Munchie Meal.
