Trick Williams Makes History, Wins TNA World Championship At NXT Battleground
AND NEW — NXT's Trick Williams is the new TNA Champion! Trick Williams defeated TNA's Joe Hendry to win the title at NXT Battleground in Tampa. The final moments of the match saw Trick bring the title into the match, but the referee stopped him from using it. Hendry tried to take advantage with a rollup, but Trick kicked out. Advertisement The ref got the title out of the ring as Hendry went for the Standing Ovation. However, this allowed Trick to rake Hendry behind the ref's back. Williams then hit a Trick Shot and made the cover to win. Williams looked shocked at picking up the win, as was the crowd in Tampa, which included TNA President Carlos Silva. Trick Williams makes history with TNA title win This is Trick Williams' first championship win outside of WWE/NXT, where he is a two-time NXT Champion and a one-time NXT North American Champion. Williams is not only the first WWE contracted talent to win the TNA World Championship, but this was the first time in history that the title changed hands outside of TNA. (AEW's Kenny Omega also won the TNA Championship while under contract with AEW, but that title change took place at TNA Rebellion 2021.) Advertisement Joe Hendry's first TNA World Championship reign ends at 126 days. He initially won the title from Nic Nemeth at TNA Genesis on January 19, 2025. Shawn Michaels recently put over Trick Williams as one of the two men he would consider being 'Mr. NXT.' Michaels also told Brad Gilmore of Reality of Wrestling he expects Williams to be a RAW or SmackDown star in the future. 'Look, I think it's a toss-up on our men's side. I think they'd probably argue about it, but I think Trick Williams and Oba Femi are two guys with — Trick has unlimited charisma, but Oba also has a mystique and an aura about him. They're two very different individuals, but they're both guys that are easily superstars that people see are going to be Raw and SmackDown superstars in the very near future, I'm sure.' Whoops! White House Rescinds Memo Freezing Federal Financial Assistance
After a disastrous rollout and widespread backlash, the Trump administration has rescinded an from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to freeze the distribution of billions in federal funds and grant money to government programs. In a brief memorandum issued to executive departments and agencies on Wednesday, the OMB wrote that 'OMB Memorandum M-25-13 is rescinded. If you have questions about implementing the President's Executive Orders, please contact your agency General Counsel.' White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt insisted that the administration is not backing down. 'This is NOT a rescission of the federal funding freeze,' she wrote. 'It is simply a rescission of the OMB memo. Why? To end any confusion created by the court's injunction. The President's EO's on federal funding remain in full force and effect, and will be rigorously implemented.' The temporary freeze threw scores of government funded agencies into chaos and confusion. Medicaid portals were down, early childhood support organizations found themselves cut off from funding, and even Meals on Wheels was left scrambling — all before the order was officially set to go into effect. Ahead of the order's implementation, two lawsuits were filed challenging its constitutionality, and President Donald Trump's authority to issue such a widespread seizure of funds approved by Congress. Hours later, U.S. District Judge Loren AliKhan partially blocked the order's enforcement pending an emergency hearing for a temporary restraining order. Throughout the day, the Trump administration attempted to backtrack and clarify large portions of the order's vague instructions, insisting that agencies responsible for providing individual assistance and direct payment to Americans would be exempt, despite the problems being reported by those very same groups. Jimmy Kimmel Douses Trump's Claim Military ‘Turned On' California's Water
Late night host Jimmy Kimmel dampened claims by President Donald Trump that the U.S. military entered California to release a large amount of water from the northern part of the state to fight the Los Angeles fires. In a Monday post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: 'The United States Military just entered the Great State of California and, under Emergency Powers, TURNED ON THE WATER flowing abundantly from the Pacific Northwest, and beyond.' 'Enjoy the water, California!!!' The following day, Kimmel called out Trump over this false claims. 'Do you think he actually believes this happened?' Kimmel pondered during his monologue. 'Or does he think we're so dumb, we believe it happened? It's incredible. The minute I saw the post, I said — I ran to my sink, I turned it on. Water came just gushing out. I let it spray. I danced around like I was Shakira or something.' 'Whether or not the U.S. military entered California and turned the water on is not a matter of debate,' he said. 'This is not liberal versus conservative. It didn't happen, OK? But no one calls him on it.' Trump visited California on Friday and continued to falsely insist that Governor Gavin Newsom and other state officials refused to supply Southern California with water from up north amid the fires. Soon after Trump's post, the California Department of Water Resources denied his claim: 'The military did not enter California. The federal government restarted federal water pumps after they were offline for maintenance for three days. State water supplies in Southern California remain plentiful.' On Sunday, Trump ordered the federal government to override the state's water resource policies to deliver more water and hydropower to the Los Angeles region. According to Reuters, a spokesperson for Newsom said that the president's directive would not have made a difference in California's battle against the fires as the state receives a majority of its water from other sources and does not have a shortage. Hydrants in Los Angeles county ran dry as the water system in some areas did not have the ability to deliver large amounts of water over several hours, Martin Adams, former general manager of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power told the Los Angeles Times. Firefighters also said that rescue efforts were hindered by low water pressure. 'Trump is either unaware of how water is stored in California or is deliberately misleading the public,' said the governor's spokesperson Tara Gallegos. 'There is no imaginary spigot to magically make water appear at a wildfire, despite what Trump claims.'
