'Explosive' Sky thriller stars Game of Thrones icon in totally new role away from fantasy hit
Atomic, a brand new five-part drama, is coming to Sky next month and it's set to be a chaotic, high-octane ride for viewers Game of Thrones favourite Alfie Allen is set to captivate audiences once more in an unmissable thriller boasting a stellar ensemble cast, arriving shortly on Sky. Atomic, a gripping five-part series, teams the actor renowned for his portrayal of Theon Greyjoy in HBO's fantasy epic with Star Trek: Discovery's Shazad Latif in a frantic battle against the clock. Allen's character Max, a drug runner, encounters Latif's JJ, sparking an unexpected alliance before they find themselves in serious trouble. The official synopsis reveals: "They're swept into a chaotic, high-stakes mission they never signed up for- trafficking highly enriched uranium across North Africa and the Middle East, with the CIA, MI6, and a global web of opposing forces closing in fast." Sky's explosive new trailer showcases pulse-pounding, cinema-quality thrills as Max and JJ evade CIA operative Cassie Elliott (portrayed by Samira Wiley), reports the Express. The Handmaid's Tale actress embodies the relentless agent who believes the pair are collaborating with terrorists and is determined to retrieve their dangerous yet unstable contraband. "The pair find themselves on a wild road trip, confronting covert operatives, an internationally funded cartel, and ultimately their own pasts," the description adds. "What starts as a bid for survival slowly becomes something more: a reluctant partnership, a shot at redemption, and one hell of a ride." Viewers received their initial glimpse of the programme today through a brief preview before Atomic launches on Thursday, 28th August. In the trailer, Allen is barely recognisable from his iconic role as Theon, trading in the character's signature armour and unkempt hair for a decidedly more contemporary look. Latif, too, looks strikingly different from his Star Trek days, now sporting a thick beard for his role as JJ. While further plot details remain shrouded in mystery, Sky viewers can anticipate a gripping thriller as Max and JJ traverse North Africa and the Middle East with the CIA hot on their heels. Beyond Atomic and Thrones, Allen has made a name for himself through roles in BBC's historical action drama SAS: Rogue Heroes and ITV's period detective series White House Farm. Earlier this year, he featured in the ITV hacker drama Safe Harbour, which saw him reunite with HBO co-star Jack Gleeson, infamous for his portrayal of Westeros' villainous Joffrey Baratheon. Atomic will premiere on Thursday, 28th August on Sky and NOW.

Boston Blue Twist! Blue Bloods Spinoff Recasts a Reagan Family Member (and in Turn Explains Danny's Big Move)
CBS' upcoming Blue Bloods offshoot has added another Reagan — though he will look a bit different when he shows up. A 'universe expansion' of the long-running family/crime drama, Boston Blue (airing Fridays at 10/9c this fall) finds Donnie Wahlberg's Danny Reagan taking a position with the Boston Police Department. There, he is paired with Detective Lena Silver (Star Trek: Discovery's Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. Mika Amonsen — whose credits include TV's The Republic of Sarah and Hudson and Rex, as well as the 2023 slasher film Thanksgiving — has been cast in the series regular role of Sean Reagan, Danny's youngest son (of two). Sean of course was originally played across all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods by Andrew Terraciano, in what was practically Terraciano's only acting role. In Boston Blue, Sean has relocated to Boston to start his own new chapter, as a patrolman for the Boston PD — thus paving the way for his father's own major move. 'Sean committed himself to pursuing his family's legacy but wanted to do so on his own terms, which meant joining a department outside of his hometown,' the official character description reads. 'Danny's decision to stay in Boston gives this father-and-son duo a chance to reconnect on a deeper level.' The Boston Blue cast also includes Gloria Reuben (ER) as Mae Silver, family matriarch and Boston's District Attorney; Ernie Hudson (NBC's Quantum Leap reboot) as Lena's grandfather, Reverend Peters, a renowned pastor of a historic Baptist church in Boston; Maggie Lawson (Psych) as Boston PD Superintendent Sarah Silver, Lena's 'strong-willed' and 'decisive' stepsister; and Marcus Scribner (black-ish) as Jonah, Lena and Sarah's rookie cop brother.
