Mark Hamill Tells Fans Not To Expect His Return In 'Star Wars'
Summary With the upcoming filmNew Jedi Order, set for release in 2027, fans should prepare for the absence ofMark Hamillas Luke Skywalker. In a recent interview announced that he is stepping away from the role, urging fans not to expect his return in any future installments or screenings. He expressed gratitude toGeorge Lucasfor giving him the opportunity to be part of what Lucas once described as 'the most expensive low-budget movie ever made,' — a film that has since evolved into a globally recognized franchise. Hamill explained, 'We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my view is, I had my time. I'm appreciative of that, but I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.' His last notable appearance was inEpisode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, where he returned as a Force spirit to guide Rey in her final confrontation with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) before becoming one with the Force. Reflecting on his departure, Hamill joked, 'When I disappeared inThe Last Jedi, I left my robes behind. And there's no way I'm gonna appear as a naked Force ghost. I'm just letting you know that right now.' Although Hamill has seemingly retired from his role as Luke Skywalker, his impact on the Star Wars universe remains undeniable. Fortunately, fans still have much to look forward to with several upcoming projects — including Star Wars:Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, set five years after the sequel trilogy and releasing in 2027, andThe Mandalorian & Grogu, arriving in 2026 and featuring Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White.

Ryan Reynolds Wants To Make R-Rated Star Wars Project
Deadpool star pitched an R-rated Star Wars project to Disney. Reynolds is best known for playing Wade Wilson, who most recently appeared in the MCU movie Deadpool & Wolverine, which was released in 2024. That movie was directed by Shawn Levy, who is now working on his own Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Starfighter, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2027. Speaking with Scott Mendelson on The Box Office podcast, Reynolds revealed that he once pitched an R-rated Star Wars project to Disney. 'It doesn't have to be overt, A+ characters. There's a wide range of characters you could use,' Reynolds said. 'And I don't mean R-rated to be vulgar. R-rated as a Trojan horse for emotion. I always wonder why studios don't want to just gamble on something like that. '…I'm not saying I want to be in it. That would be a bad fit. I'd want to produce and write, or be a part of behind the scenes. Those kinds of IP subsist really well on scarcity and surprise. We don't get scarcity really with Star Wars because of Disney+, but you can certainly still surprise people.' There has never been an R-rated Star Wars movie or show up until this point. There has also been no confirmation that any of the Star Wars projects that are currently in development will receive an R-rating; although, Andor's Tony Gilroy recently stated that he believes a Star Wars horror project is in the works at Lucasfilm. The next Star Wars movie that will be released in theaters is The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is being directed by Jon Favreau and is scheduled to arrive on May 22, 2026. Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter, meanwhile, will star Ryan Gosling and currently has a May 28, 2027, release date. Originally reported by Brandon Schreur at SuperHeroHype. Oscar winner Mikey Madison lines up first post-award project alongside Kirsten Dunst
Fresh off her Oscar win for Anora, Mikey Madison has lined up her first major project and it's already turning heads. While Demi Moore was heavily favored to win Best Actress at this year's Academy Awards, Madison shocked the industry by taking home the trophy instead. Following Anora's impressive haul of five Academy Awards and Madison's unexpected win, fans and insiders alike have been speculating about her next move. Many assumed she would follow the traditional path of joining a major franchise. In fact, Madison was reportedly offered a role in Shawn Levy's upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling. The project, with its franchise pedigree and blockbuster potential, seemed like a natural next step for a rising star. However, Madison has instead chosen something more offbeat and personal: she will star in Reptilia, a psychological thriller co-starring Kirsten Dunst. As reported by Variety, Reptilia centers on a mysterious mermaid who lures a dental hygienist into the dangerous underworld of Florida's exotic animal trade. The film will be directed by Alejandro Landes Echavarría, whose 2019 feature Monos earned acclaim and won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award at Sundance. The script for Reptilia is co-written by Landes Echavarría and Duke Merriman, promising a unique and atmospheric entry into the thriller genre. This choice reflects Madison's inclination toward bold, character-driven films over formulaic blockbusters. While she has experience in franchise fare, appearing in 2022's Scream and the 2019 animated Addams Family, her standout work has come in more singular stories like Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood and Anora. By turning down a role in one of Hollywood's biggest franchises in favor of a smaller, visionary thriller, Madison is clearly signaling that she's choosing artistic direction over conventional star-making.

What We Know So Far About the Star Wars: Starfighter Movie
A new Star Wars movie is coming, and with it a trip to a galaxy far, far away set in a new time period. Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled for a May 2027 release, starring Ryan Gosling (yes, Ken from the Barbie movie) as a brand-new character. We don't know much about his role or the film yet, though director Shawn Levy revealed a bit last month during the Star Wars Celebration fan event in Japan. "The movie is a new adventure. It's new characters," Levy said. "It takes place in a new period of time after the battle of Exegol, after Episode 9." Episode 9 refers to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which came out in 2019, and the planet Exegol was the site of a battle during the war between the First Order and the Resistance. No one was surprised to see plans for a new Star Wars movie, given how the franchise has drastically expanded since Disney bought the franchise's parent company, Lucasfilm, in 2012. Fans are ready for a standalone Star Wars film The new film has excited superfans like Jimmy "Mac" McInerney, host and producer of the Rebel Force Radio: Star Wars Podcast. "Superfans like me will be there for anything Star Wars, but I really hope Levy and Gosling will pack the appropriate punch to excite the masses," McInerney told CNET. "I'm also very optimistic that this will be a standalone story with a solid beginning, middle and end." The movie will be set about five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and it won't follow any of the main plot lines from past films. So it's not a prequel or a sequel, it's a new adventure. Mclnerney thinks the standalone nature of Star Wars: Starfighter might be a good thing. "Sometimes Star Wars gets crushed under the weight of its existing lore, so it's nice to know this will be a self-contained adventure," he said. "This could provide fandom with a nice palate cleanser following the divisive sequel trilogy and propel the franchise into the future." For now, you can find all the Star Wars content your heart desires on the streaming service Disney Plus.

Trump Announces 100% Tariff on Movies Made Outside of America
The post Trump Announces 100% Tariff on Movies Made Outside of America appeared first on Consequence. Donald Trump has announced a 100% tariff on 'any and all' movies 'coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands.' The announcement was made Sunday night in a post on his social media network, Truth Social. 'The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death. Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States. Hollywood, and many other areas within the U.S.A., are being devastated,' Trump wrote. 'This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat. It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda!' 'Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands,' Trump continued. 'WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!' A number of major upcoming Hollywood films are produced—either partially or entirely—outside of the United States in order to qualify for generous tax credits offered by other countries. Such titles include Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday, which is being filmed in the UK; Lucasfilm's Star Wars: Starfighter, also being shot in the UK; and Avatar: Fire and Ash, which was produced in New Zealand. It's unclear whether Trump's announcement is targeting these types of titles, foreign-made films in general, or both. Trump's announcement appears to stem from a recommendation made by actor Jon Voight, one of the president's 'special ambassadors' to Hollywood. Per Deadline, Voight has held conversations with union representatives and studio executives about ways to bring productions back to the US, including the possibility of offering federal tax incentives to studios. While there's skepticism that the Trump administration would support such an incentive—especially amid broader cost-cutting efforts—the implementation of a tariff could be Trump's alternative approach to achieving a similar outcome.
