Governor Moore urges Marylanders to stay vigilant as rain causes severe flooding
MARYLAND () — Gov. Wes Moore is urging Marylanders to stay safe and vigilant after flash floods hit the Western part of the state. On Tuesday, heavy rain poured across the DMV, leading to significant flooding, particularly in Allegany County. The downpours left several roads closed and flooded, prompting evacuations and emergency responses. Moore noted that nearly five inches of rain had fallen since midnight. The North Branch Potomac River in Cumberland is forecasted to reach 22.6 feet overnight. This would be the highest river crest since 1996. Allegany County Public Schools closed on Wednesday after heavy rain causes flash flooding Maryland leaders are urging the community to stay alert and use extreme caution as more rain is forecasted for Wednesday. As a result, the Maryland Department of Emergency Management activated the State Emergency Operations Center to coordinate the state's response to the heavy rain. 'We remain in close contact with local officials and continue to coordinate resources as the rain continues to fall,' said Moore. 'I urge all Marylanders to remain vigilant, heed warnings from local officials, and prioritize safety during this time. If you don't have to go out, please do not go out. Stay off the roads if possible and heed any evacuation orders.' Officials: People trapped amid flash flooding in Allegany County The Allegany County Emergency Services have also reported that floodwaters have caused washouts and gas line leaks. Officials said if residents smell gas, call 911 and stay away from the areas where the odor is strong. Officials remind the community to avoid driving on flooded roadways and never go around barricades. Howard County, Frederick County and Montgomery County have also deployed swift water rescue teams through the state's emergency assistance program. Emergency shelters are also open in Allegany and Garrett counties to help those who have been impacted by evacuations and flooding. Morrisey declares State of Emergency in Mineral County amid severe flooding
KEYSER, (WBOY) — After severe flooding struck parts of Maryland and West Virginia's eastern panhandle Tuesday afternoon, Gov. Patrick Morrisey has declared a State of Emergency in Mineral County. According to a release Tuesday night, the State of Emergency mobilizes personnel and resources to respond to Mineral County, it also allocates certain administrative powers to GE McCabe, the Director of the West Virginia Emergency Management Division (WVEMD). The State of Emergency is scheduled to be in effect for 30 days unless terminated early. SEE IT: Flooding strikes Western Maryland, Eastern Panhandle Earlier in the day, Gov. Morrisey ordered the activation of the State Emergency Operations Center to coordinate evacuations in Mineral County and 'fulfill any ongoing needs' that arise. Mineral County Emergency Management and 911 said in a social media post Tuesday night that Keyser received about 6.25 inches of rain over the past 24 hours. Officials requested that no organized donation drives be created until they know the extent of the damage and what is needed. An updated list of supplies will be provided here. The governor and WVEMD have asked all West Virginians to remain attentive to local weather conditions and follow any instructions relayed to them by emergency officials. Maharashtra government arranges special flights to bring back stranded tourists from Kashmir
At least four flights are to land in Mumbai on Thursday (April 24, 2025) to bring back Maharashtra's tourists from Srinagar. One flight landed in the early hours on Thursday(April 24, 2025). The special flight is slated to bring back 83 tourists to Mumbai from Srinagar. 'Efforts are underway to arrange one more special flight too tomorrow itself and preparation of passenger list for the same is underway. The government stated in a press release - In the wake of the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, two officers have been appointed to assist affected citizens from Maharashtra at the State Emergency Operations Center (Ministry Control Room), informed Disaster Management Director Satishkumar Khadke. Manager of the State Emergency Operations Center, Visheshkar Suryawanshi, and Control Room Officer Nitin Masale have been appointed at the Ministry Control Room.
